Alright Buckeyes!!!

Since we now know which mascot is heading to Disney World (Brutus), can someone tell me when/where they will be holding the parade for the buckeyes?
Thanks!

Congratulations to the Ohio State Buckeyes! I wish I was going to Disney World with Brutus!!

I was wondering if/when Brutus would be at WDW, too.

Go Bucks!:thumbsup2

ah man, just found this posted elsewhere:

"After several google searches, I finally called Disney and they said the university sets the schedule for when/if they attend. So I called the university and of course was transferred several times during which I found out that the TEAM will not attend as classes started yesterday and they have to get back to their schedules. I continued to search to find out if Brutus was actually participating in a Disney parage and finally the head of the Spirit Squad emailed me back (very quickly) and said Brutus would not be attending, there is only time for him to do pictures and commercials only. So at least that settles it....no Disney trip for OH-IO."

Pity that the Bucks won't be getting a parade at the World, I was hoping they would be there during my trip. Still happy for the win though! Go Bucks!! :cheer2:

Brutus may not be going but the Oregon Ducks mascot is there everyday.

Well that stinks. I mean, I was hoping it would be Big Al there instead of Brutus, but I was really hoping to see the college teams/mascots get something similar to what NFL gets :(. Oh well, maybe they'll add that sometime in the future. Congrats on the win; it was impressive. Certainly looked like the best team in the country during those last two games!!

A few years ago I was standing in line for a ride at WDW. As we are getting closer to the loading area, I noticed that the complete stranger I will be sitting next to is completely decked in Maize and Blue, a walking billboard for our rival. He suddenly turns around to see me in my Buckeye gear. The look on his face was priceless, then he got a grumpy look on his face. I looked at him like I was sizing him up and said "I guess we can get along for a few minutes for the sake of the kids." With a serious look on his face, he slowly nodded and then we both broke out laughing. Our wives, who were a bit nervous at first, were quickly relieved. :lmao: We had a great time joking together. We really hammed it up. We saw some people with confused looks on their faces when they looked at us. A few strangers even asked if we would pose for picture together! Too bad we didn't take one ourselves!

P.S. I have nothing but respect for friends that cheer for the blocked M and their team.

Ah college football, the best sport on this planet (in my opinion)! Where else could you find such tradition and rivalry? Hats off to Oregon, they were a great team as well!

Education first! Congrats to the school for the win and the focus on education.

I have a cute O-H-I-O story. I used to work at the Grand Canyon as a photographer and one day I was standing near the rim when I was approached by a small group of people who asked me to take their photo. This is a pretty common request so I said ok and they handed me their camera. Four of them proceeded to walk to the edge of the rim and form the letters Ohio with their arms. And I took a very cute photo.

My guess is that its OK for Brutus to go to Disney World, but I would think the team going would be against NCAA rules.

There was a parade last year in MK for UCF after they won the Fiesta Bowl.

I was referring more to travel expenses. I think it would be against NCAA rules to fly the entire Buckeye team to WDW, unless the players individually paid for it. UCF is a short bus ride away.

I was at Disney almost directly after Ohio State lost to LSU for the National Championship. I was wearing LSU gear and was approached by no less than 10 really polite fans to talk about the game. Very refreshing.

Not sure why that'd be any different. Brutus is just a student, I assume.....

Right. Brutus is just a student, not an athlete on an athletic scholarship governed by the NCAA. The NCAA is really strict on what "gifts" athletes and their families can accept. For the most part, they can't accept much of anything, including at least transportation to and from Orlando. I'm not even sure if Disney would be allowed to give them park admission for the day, but they might be able to get around that.

That's what I get for posting late at night after traveling all day...didn't rely translate from my head to the post LOL. What I meant was, how is it any different for the team (and mascot--just a student but part of the program) to get that stuff than all the stuff they receive from the bowls? They get all sorts of stuff, and if the bowl is near a park, they usually get admission to that. Don't get me wrong either--I totally think they SHOULD get it (plus IMO maybe even a small stipend, if the school were to choose) for the amount of time they give to the school. Yes, they get scholarships (nothing to sneeze at), but the programs make insane amounts of money off them, and they can't have jobs to earn spending money. Boy, I'm way OT here... ;). Cute pic. Hope to see Big Al in front of the castle one of these years!
