O Christmas Tree

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
How are thy leaves so verdant!
Not only in the summertime,
But even in winter is thy prime.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
For every year the Christmas tree,
Brings to us all both joy and glee.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
Each bough doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

My preference is Scotch Pine (the most popular Christmas tree in Canada), but this year the selection was slim. There was some sort of blight that had affected the SP harvest.

DH bought and set up our tree the day before I came home from WDW, a task he was very nervous about. He seems to think I'm very particular about my Christmas trees. Don't understand that at all... :confused3 ;). Anyway, he brought home a Frasier Fir. It's quite nice, although a lot of the branches are a little too weak to hold my heavier ornaments. I'm just thankful that he took care of it for me! :)

In our neck of the woods, a Frasier Fir (approx. 6 1/2 - 7ft.), goes for $65. Trees are pricey!

What kind of tree did you get? Did you stick with a traditional favourite, or go out on a limb (lol), and try something different? :)

Keep it watered, and away from direct sources of heat, and ignore what the lyrics above say, no candles!!! ;) :)

We have a real one, not even sure what kind it is. But it looks fine...even though it's kind of dwarfed in the new room, people dont even notice it...LOL.

I have the lights on it and some new gold balls, hopefully the kids will do the rest today.

We usually get a Grand Fir but last year it dried out so much that we had to take it down the day after Christmas. If you happened to brush against it it would rain needles. This year we decided to try a Noble Fir. It has much thicker needles and branches. We got it from a lot on Dec. 3rd and it is in great shape. It barely drops any needles and seems to be staying really fresh. I think we will always get a Noble. It is a 7 1/2' and we paid $65.

We love scotch pines.

We have a fake tree.

WAAAAHHHHH!!!!

What kind of fake tree, Gina? Our artificial tree is a fir. DH refers to it as a Fantasy Fir! ;) :)

Did the kids finish the tree, Vanessa? :)

I don't think I've ever seen a Noble Fir, Mary, or a Grand one, either. :)

Patsy, no palm tree? ;)

As of this morning, they're still NO presents under the tree, but you should see the pile of shopping bags in the dining room, and in all the closets!

I'm not going to look at my bank balances until after the holidays! :smooth:

Anyone want to hire themselves out as a gift wrapper? :D

I have no idea what kind of fake it is.....IT'S A FAKE! And it was a rather expensive one as I recall.

The trees in my area must have been cut on the 4th of July. They dry out too quickly (I'm talking a couple of days) and look terrible....not to mention the fire hazard aspect of it. I got tired of putting up a tree on 12/23 and not being able to light it past 12/28. I like to keep my tree up til Twelfth Night.

Oh...and despite all the wrapping I did BEFORE WDW...I'm still wrapping gifts.

Go figure!

I'm the happiest Christmas tree,
Ho ho ho, he he he!
Someone came and they found me,
and took me home with them!!

An old Nat King Cole Christmas song from my childhood. I never really liked it that much, but it's kind of stuck in my head these days, much like 'It's a Small World After All' is for some people. Mercifully, IASWA was closed when we were there. ;) :)

Sing with me now!! :rockband:

Or not.....;)

Don't know the Nat King Cole tree song but didn't you leave out a verse from the original song posted?

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
How lovely are thy branches.
Not only green when summer's here,
but something something throughout the year

Hey! So I'm having a senior moment here. I'm allowed. I'm 50!
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree
How lovely are thy branches!

Our very best Christmas tree was from our second Christmas as Hubby and Wife. We were visiting in New Jersey and picked up a Scotch Pine tree at a GAS STATION!! We put it in the trunk of our little RX4 Mazda and worried about it falling out as went home in freezing rain. We brought it into the apartment, covered with ice, set it in a bucket with newspapers all around the floor and leaned it against the wall. In the a.m., we awoke to find our two little black kittens way up in top of the tree!

That tree lasted forever and it looked great decorated even minus the black kitty ornaments.

Last year I got tired of waiting to the last moment to get a tree and tired of stringing the lights on it and decorating it mostly by myself (the one and only time I ever wish I had a daughter.... girls would appreciate decorating Christmas trees) and we went out and bought a 7-foot, FAKE, space-saving, PRE-LIT tree. It looks very real even with brown branches!

And to appease my son, who I taught well to hate all Fake Christmas Trees before I went over to the dark side, we picked up last weekend a little Norfolk Pine which he can keep forever and ever!! ::yes::

Here is a picture of a Grand Fir ~ very hairy, usually fat, seems less formal.

This is a Noble Fir ~ branches are spread out, seems like a more formal tree to me.

Rosemary, what a nice story about your gas station tree!!! ::yes:: :)

The dark side?
 I guess quite a few of us have 'gone over'!! ;)

I could very well have a missed a line or two. That's what happens sometimes when you copy and paste!! Hey, I'm not that far behind you in the age thing....;) :)

Thank you for the pics, Mary!! The Grand Fir description reminds me a bit (just a bit ;)), of my DH! :)

The Holly and the ivy, when they are both full grown,
Of all the trees that are in the woods, the holly bears the crown.

We have an artificial tree inside, but it was the outside lights on our real and growing blue spruces that welcomed us home to Dayton in the wee hours last night. Snow and ice outside tried to keep us stuck at the airport! Tom was wonderful in this stressful travel time, and thank heavens that there are Good Samaritans who must come to the airport parking lots specifically to help out travelers stuck in snowbanks. There are angels among us for sure.

We travel I 75 from the airport. We went right pass the scene that viewers of the Travel Channel must have seen hundreds of time on Thursday showing the world the woes of traveling in Dayton in the storm. There was traffic, even around midnight, but everyone went slow and we arrived home safely.

So, although I've always appreciated these blue spruces that we have as symbols of life and places for birds to nest, I never appreciated them as Christmas trees until this trip. "Much pleasure doth thou bring me!" So true!

Merry Christmas again and again to all of my bud friends.

Bobbi :flower:

PS. None of our 3 checked bags made it to Dayton with us. Traveling through Atlanta was a chore, but we're among the lucky ones, our seats were on planes yesterday, the 23rd, those who had tried to travel on the 22nd were mostly out of luck, and the list of standbys for seats on OUR plane included 120+ names!!!
