NYPD P.O. Brian Moore

Thank God that the actual trend is fewer police fatalities so far this year. http://www.nleomf.org/facts/officer-fatalities-data/

It will be a cold day in hell when I thank God that so far fewer officers have made the ultimate sacrafice the number should be zero and since it isn't there is no thanking God. 25 year olds such as officer moore in Ny and Officer Tate in Mississippi Shouldn't be dead and the reason they are gone is because there are animals and savages who are allowed to live among the true good people Society. No Sir I will thank God when the number is zero kkilled by savages

I think the point was that there is not some sudden cop-killing epidemic going on throughout America - which this thread (and others) has attempted to imply. If anything, people should be comforted by this fact. Things are not getting worse. The issue is a bit more complicated than "animals and savages who are allowed to live among the true good people...". For starters, maybe explore the issue of how many guns are in supply, and how readily available they are.

It is absolutely tragic when police officers are killed in the line of duty. Unfortunately, that kind of risk comes with the job description - much like those who serve in the military. It definitely takes a special type of person to be willing to take on that risk in order to protect and serve their communities, and I will always be grateful that those types of people exist.

Alright this is enough...apparently insanity has crept onto a MEMORIAL thread under cover of darkness.

We are a law enforcement family. Mostly COs but a couple of our closest members and I'd say 75% of our family friends are police or COs.

Man... I thought military families were a close knit group? Nothing compares to the love and support of a family like this.

These senseless acts are really hitting close and having an effect on all of us. I pray for these officer's families and friends and hope they know that they are being honored and remembered by people all over the country.

Any thoughts on my post above?

Do you really think the sort of people who would kill a police officer are the type who would obey gun laws?

No they won't........
That's why we call them Criminals.
Firearms are inanimate objects completely under the control of the person carrying them.
However, I do keep mine in a safe just in case they get the urge to go out and murder innocent people in the middle of the night......

And to bring this back to point:
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

RIP and God Bless Off Brian Moore

Did anyone see the body cam footage of a suspect who was chased, came to a stop, got out of the car and immediately started shooting at the officer(s)? The suspect was shot dead, but it demonstrated very well how split second decisions have to be made, and their chief explained it well, too. I'm not sure where it happened.

First off, On Friday I viewed and paid my respects as Detective Moore's funeral procession passed by in my town. Prayers for his family as well as the two policeman killed in Mississipi on Saturday.

Anyone who praises the Police Killing is in my mind a sick individual, Subway will not get a Dollar of my Business as long as that individual works there. The ills of Society to Praise Cop Killers or to go out in the guise of a protest to loot, burn and rob in my mind is fostered by the likes of the President, Attorney General, Mayor of NY, Mayor of Baltimore, State Attorney of Maryland, and of course all the Race baiters like All Sharpton. All of them blamed the police, not the criminal that in each case resisted arrest, ran, or attacked the arresting officer. They presumed guilt on the hands of the Police and quickly passed their Judgement via the media. Freddie Gray's death was a tragedy and should have never happened in Police Custody. Yet let's not forget he was a drug dealer and a thug. He made eye contact with the police and ran. When caught he went into his I am hurt act. So when He was really hurt did any really believe him. The President sent three representatives to Freddie Gray's funeral and Nobody to Detective Moore's.

Police Lives do matter, just like everyone elses.

I hope the trend continues to fewer cops as well as other people killed in criminal violence in America. If that happens, I will be thankful.

Law enforcement is an inherently dangerous job. To think there will ever be no fatalities on the job is unrealistic and naive. Just look at all the officer deaths resulting from motor vehicles.

My son and members of his squad will represent their department in honor of their good friend, mentor and former sergeant, Joe Matuskovic, in DC this week. Joe was murdered on duty - shot when he knocked on the door and identified himself while responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex. We still can't believe it happened. He made many young men and women the fine officers they are today and showed compassion for those in our community who needed help, all with kindness and a smile. It hurts so much knowing that if the man they were checking on simply opened the door, Joe would have gotten him the help he needed. RIP, Joe, you are deeply, deeply missed, as are Officers Moore, Deen, and Tate and so many who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities. Keeping my blue porch light on since September. Safe travels to all officers going to DC this week, and may they always come home safely at the end of their shifts.

Any thoughts on my post above?
It's reprehensible that somebody would 1. Have those thoughts and 2. Post those thoughts on social media. Social media is FILLED with really horrible/stupid/ignorant people posting horrible/stupid/ignorant things. That doesn't change or impact anything I said I my first post...

Again - it's tragic when these things happen.

I didn't say anything about anybody obeying gun laws, so I'm not sure why you quoted me.

How do you suggest addressing how many guns are in supply and how readily available they are except through gun laws?
