NYPD P.O. Brian Moore

(CNN)Two police officers were shot in the line of duty in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, late Saturday, officials said.

The two died from their wounds after being taken to a local hospital, CNN affiliate WDAM reported, citing Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict. It identified them as Benjamin J. Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25.

Police have apprehended both suspects, Marvin Banks and Curtis Banks, the local broadcaster reported.

The two used a police vehicle to flee, which was later found abandoned, according to WDAM.

"The men and women who go out every day to protect us, the men and women who go out every day to make sure that we are safe, were turned on tonight," said Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree.

"Thirty years ago is the last time this happened in Hattiesburg," Dupree said. He vowed that the perpetrators of the attack would face justice.

According to The Clarion-Ledger, a newspaper in Jackson, the last killing of a Hattiesburg officer was on New Year's Eve 1984.

The newspaper reported that Tate was a recent graduate from the police academy, and that Deen was a K-9 officer who was named as the city's officer of the year in 2012.

Police in Oxford, Mississippi, sent out condolences in a tweet.

"Both Hattiesburg Police Officers have died. Terrible. Prayers to the entire community and families," it read.

Mississippi public safety spokesman Warren Strain confirmed that two officers had been shot but didn't respond to multiple calls from CNN seeking further information on the matter.

MickeySP, would you consider starting a thread with this info? I was going to but, you've got a great bit of info here.

Somehow I don't think those who should be aware of what is going on will bother clicking on this thread and see it. But it deserves a prominent place where everyone can at least read the title of the thread to know that once again, our brave police officers are being murdered in cold blood.

I'm so sad for these brave officers who risked their lives. And those who chose to go to work each day to serve and protect.

I read some very interesting information about the Baltimore PD yesterday. I'm still digesting it at this point, but I'll just say that it is no wonder why the people were angry with the Baltimore PD. Absolutely no excuse to riot or destroy property. But understandable how things got so out of control.

Blue Lives Matter

I think there is one, already. And still the ignorant rant on that because they were separate incidents and not racial and they thugs were caught then it is no where near on par.

4 PO's in 2 weeks - sounds like hunting season to me. I will not bury any colleagues/friends - judged by 12 not buried by 30.000.

SO glad the "suspects" have been caught but doesn't ease my mind one bit with this "trend". We've "added" another police officer to our family; niece has been dating him and we got to know him today. He's a K-9 officer (which REALLY makes him "near & dear" to us...we're huge "dog people") with a 14 year old son. Prayers everyday for ALL officers. :lovestruc :tink:

...and now I understand there have been 2 more officers killed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. :furious: This "trend' is really, REALLY bothering me...:furious:. :tink:
It's absolutely disgusting. These men and women are trying to help the very communities that are picking them off one by one. And guess what, not one riot has erupted as a as result of their deaths. Imagine that.

I'm changing my signature (and I HAD JUST changed it)! to Blue Lives Matter. Whose with me??

I think that a police officer being killed in cold blood is about as bad as it gets. Most of these men and women are there doing difficult work to protect all of us with very little reward. Particularly lately. It's so sad.

Exactly what I have been saying.

What people don't understand (at least in my opinion) is that if these vile monsters are willing to challege a Police Officer with a firearm then Joe Q citizen stand no chance against them. What do you think the criminal who murdered PO moore was going to do with the gun if Officer moore hadn't stopped him?
