NYE st the Fort?

We will be arriving at the fort late morning on NYE following a long drive from Indiana. I have no interest in tacking the crowds in the parks that day. Does the Fort sponsor any special activities that night? Is the beach a good spot to view the fireworks? Is there a better non-park, family friendly spot to celebrate?

The beach is a great place to view fireworks. I haven't heard of special NY activities. Maybe someone else has.
