I am having a tiny (one family) over for NYE. What is everyone on the Dis doing for food for NYE? I'm thinking finger food type things.
So far I think I will have shrimp cocktail; veggies and dip; chesseburger egg rolls. I'm looking for 1-2 more things to make.

We're staying home NYE (we don't usually do Amateur Night), and we're having our traditional gluttonous Stone Crabs dinner.

That could change a little if DD is home with us. She was planning to do NYE with her BF's family, but one of the cousins came down with Covid, so they're all being tested. If she stays home, we'll have to get something else for her because she doesn't like Stone Crabs.

I normally have a themed sit down meal for 8 on NYE with 6 to 8 courses. Think this year it’ll be shrimp salad and don’t know what else with champagne.

So, if you have champagne, you have to have strawberries:)...so I would have some chocolate dipped and undipped strawberries (or you could do berry salad with strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries).

I'd also probably do something with chicken (since you have beef and fish)...you could do wings, you could do a buffalo chicken dip, you could do a Chick-fil-a nugget tray, Pioneer Woman has a handheld chicken pot pie app, etc...something easy...

Or you could do deviled eggs to fill the "veg protein" role for the night instead of the chicken...

We are having a odd menu that night, not because of NYE but because we had to postpone our Christmas meal w/ the kids and friday is when we could all get together again. Menu is - crab bisque, veal parm w/ pasta and a chocolate peanut butter cake for dessert.

My wife considers Black Eyed Peas and Ham to be a traditional New Years Eve dinner. No idea where she got that from, but other than the New Year's Eve we were on a Disney cruise, it is what we have had for NYE dinner for 39 years.

My parents and in-laws will be with us and we are having little sandwiches, wings, a hot potato casserole and maybe a pasta salad. We’ll also have Cheese and crackers along with other finger foods. Nice and easy items 🎊🙂👍🏻

Can I come? 😄 Love Stone Crabs but can’t really get them here in Mass. Enjoy and Happy New Year!

I saw some asparagus wraps on Instagram (blanched asparagus and brie wrapped in 1/4 puff pastry shell, egg washed and baked; honey lemon dressing optional). I think we’ll make those along with some easy items like maybe some roasted brussels sprouts and shrimp cocktail sounds good. May also make a chowder. 👍🏻

Kinda OT, but when we were in Iceland this summer, some of the restaurants had a happy hour special with a bottle of champagne, melon (honeydew of all things, yuck), and licorice. What a combination! But, I saw more than one table order it!

Ohhhhh! I was thinking about starting this thread. So happy to see the food suggestions for NYE.

I’m thinking of grilling some juicy burgers on the Traegar and then setting up a toppings bar. Maybe 6-8 of us. Our street usually does a football game in the middle of the street on NYE…hahaha only a few Achilles injuries over the years.

Looking for healthy dips and side ideas.

When we're home we usually have appetizers (frozen from Trader Joes) or fondue. Then we watch the Twilight Zone marathon. This year it's on SyFy.

I like dips that could go on the burger or on the side, so I'd do a black bean salsa https://theblondcook.com/black-bean-salsa/, a guacamole, and/or a vegan chili (and have chips so the dips go either way). If you do all 3, this also provides vegan, protein-filled gluten-dairy-nut free options for anyone who wouldn't grab a burger (they could have a heckuva nacho plate just from the 3 dips).

Then, for a healthy side, I'd do a sliced pineapple, mango, and oranges (since they are probably way more seasonal than sliced watermelon)...

Burgers with a toppings bar, chili/chips/dip, fruit...and then a sweet...and I'd call it a day...NYE is more the "healthy" holiday so folks will appreciate a lighter touch...

Ohhhhhh..GREAT ideas. Love the idea of the vegan chili. I'm the grillmaster but I don't eat red meat. Usually do some turkey burgers as well. Vegan chili would be super easy to whip up in the crockpot. Mhmmmm/.

If I get motivated, I'll make some Malfatti(similar to a gnocchi) ...I'm not expecting any guests but the kids(20's) will probably swing by on NYD and they can have what's left.
