We are debating where to stay for NYE--whether at DVC-SSR or at a WDW resort hotel. Were there any NYE activities at SSR this year? Party favors, band, games, stuff for kids? Also, if not much at SSR, could we go over to another DVC for NYE like Boardwalk?

We spent NYE's at SSR and plan on again this year :cool1:

The brochure from the Community Hall advertises it like this:

Wednesday, December 31

New Years Eve
9:00 pm - 12:30 am

Ring in the New Year at High Rock Spring Pool.
Join us for Bingo and other activities as we as a few other surprises.

On the Rocks Pool Bar will be open late for refreshments and light snacks.

We (me, dh, dd9, ds8) arrived at about 8:30 to get a table with chairs. Very, very few people around....I was surprised by this. We were going to sit at a table near the arcade entrance but they had the speakers and big screen set up there so we chose a table in the same section but at the other end closer to the bar. (The big screen pointed towards the pool)

At about 8:45 they started handing out, party hats, party leis etc
(more people started showing up)

At 9:00pm I believe they started with Bingo.....$1 per card
(more people started showing up)

Then moved on to Disney & New Years Trivia....this can be done in families & groups

Hula Hoop Contest was next. They had moved the loungers in the corner by the bar and they did the hula hoops there. Lots of participation with children & adults :rotfl:

They then did some weii on the big screen but we couldnt see it where we were sitting and we werent interested anyways.

Approx 11:45 they started handing out noise makers, blow horns....lots of them:scared1: and switched the big sceen showing NYC celebrations.

At midnight everyone was up standing watching the big screen and counting down to the ball drop.

After the countdown and Happy New Years it cleared out fast.

I know as we were in no hurry to go to our room as my dad was flying in that night and would be arriving at 1am by magical express. We just slowly packed our things up and headed out front. By 1am when we came back through the pool area, everything was gone, not a person around.....you would have never known there was a NYE's party there.

Its Disney they have things that both kids and adults can enjoy....plus the kids can swim if they want too during that time.

The year before we stayed at the BWV for NYE's and did the boardwalk scene. It was fun to see the street performers but it was very crowded. We were back to our room before the fireworks but good thing we had a BW view as we loved, loved the fireworks.

I would like to do the BWV again for NYE's but I think we all enjoyed SSR more :cloud9: (more relaxing for the adults with kids)

The Baordwalk had a DJ set up with lights on the lawn. We had dinner at V&A so we did not attend the party. Someone that walked by told me it was pretty festive. The Grand Floridian also had a party going in the lobby with a band and some specilalty drinks. Both were giving out party favors. BW was probably more kid friendly, they could dance, run around on the lawn, etc.

This was the set up at the Boardwalk (the DJ was testing things out)
