NYE activities at HH?

Has anyone spent New Year's Eve at Hilton Head? If so, can you tell me what activities were available for adults, teens, and kids?

We just added on 12/31, so we'll be there for NYE now, too! We have to come back to reality on January 5, since school starts on the 6th.

Pouncingpluto -- where in Atlanta are you? We're in Marietta!

Just called the main desk at HHI and asked if there were going to be any special activities for NYE. I was told that they were planning a couple parties for kids earlier in the evening but nothing planned for adults. They said that the Marriott and the Hilton usually had big parties. Looks like us adults are going to have to make our own parties!!!

We stayed at HH last NYE. The place was basically dead. The kids party was the only thing worthwhile. Everything in the area was pretty deserted as well. Really not a good time of year to be at HH. We had high hopes, but were disappointed.

If you go to Hilton Head expecting a huge party atmosphere for New Year's Eve, you will indeed be disapointed; however, if you have realistic expectations, you can have a wonderful trip. We've spent the last several New Year's on the island (not at Disney) and we plan to continue the tradition as long as we can. All of the large hotels on the island have traditional parties, with bands, lots of noise and booze, dancing, etc. It is my understanding that Disney does not try to throw a grown up party, but focuses on children/families spending time together. You really have options for your celebrations. We prefer a quiet, family night. We usually have a nice dinner, then watch Dick Clark for awhile, then head out to the beach for the midnight countdown. I can't tell you how special those times have been. Like any other vacation that you might take, you can make whatever you want to out of it. Have fun!

We also are arriving the 31st and leaving the 5th. Unfortunately, there were no 2 bedrooms available (the resort is full) and my husband twisted my arm and we are staying in the GV. Talk about a decadent way to bring in the New Year!

I guess that means the party is at Joan's place?

I can't believe you were able to get the GV, but not a 2BR. When did you book?

I think we're going to do the midnight at the beach thing -- sounds like a lot of fun!

We have been on the waitlist for a GV, but we didn't get it! We have a 2bedroom.....we are there 12/29-1/2.

We are DVC members but we are paying cash. Now that is really frightening but we are really looking forward to it.

Hope you have a GREAT time. We were in the GV 2 years ago over New Years.

BTW...we too were on the wait list for the GV over New Years since the summer...I just never will understand those rooms sitting around for cash when members with points are looking for them....oh well.....that's the way the system works!

That is interesting. I would not think they could hold the GV out of inventory for cash even though they have not sold all the points. I just figured that no one wanted to part with that many points.

10:00 am Hilton Head Tour
10:00 am Gyotaku
1 pm Secrets of the Marsh
2 pm Nature kayaking trip
7 pm Children's NYE party (Ages 3-12)
9 pm Teen's NYE party (Ages 13-19)

There is not that much "excitement" ijn this schedule, but that really doesn't matter! Weather today is high 60's and sunny! That is a real change from the NYC area for my family, and we are VERY glad to be here.
