NYC to Canada July 8, 2012: Its Magic, Eh?

Eleven of us ftom CT are coming on a mother daughter cruise. Five moms and six teenagers really looking forward to the cruise. We've all been waiting for years to get on boat!
:goodvibes:cool1::grouphug:

What years did you husband live in Port. We have been here for 34 years. DD and DSIL grew up here. When they married, they moved to Boston and then to Wellesley MA. We and they (and 2 young boys) will be just a few doors down from you on deck 6. Will have to get together to reminisce. We live in the Salem area. The girls attended St. Peter's School. Is your husband familiar with those places. Small world it is.

DH was there in the early 80's. His grandparents lived on Reid Ave. His mother's best friend and her parents still live in Port Washington as well. His memories of Port Washington are vague, as he was young. He still remembers his favorite pizza shop though! Carlo's Pizza I believe it is.

Where are you in Georgia. We're in south Fayette Co between Griffin and Fayetteville!

We are north of Atlanta in the Cumming/Alpharetta area.
Sooo excited for July! Trying to decide if we should get to NY early for the 4th of July or spend that at home and then head north! Cumming, GA has a great July 4th parade with Steam Engines and of course fireworks, but I grew up on LI and would love to see my hometown parade on the 4th too.

We love Carlo's Pizza. That was Sunday's dinner :), And Reid is a beautiful street. Port Washington, pretty much looks the same, just many different stores and restaurants. It is a great town by the water with a lot of pride and beauty.

DD and DSIL from MA are a bit older. Age 40 and their sons are 6 and 8. Everyone is so excited about this cruise and seeing all the characters. We are looking forward to a lot of fun.

Also, Thank you very much for keeping the list for all of us. It is a nice thing to have.

Port adventures are out! Lots to choose from. The prices don't look that terrible, either (though I may still be suffering from sticker shock from the Alaska excursion prices, lol).

Well the Moosehead brewery tops my list but I think DW and DD are going to prefer something else.

Hi!
We had to switch to this cruise due to scheduling conflict (we were on the June 17th). It will be my son (16), my mom and myself in cabin 2062. My son & I have cruised once before on the 2008 re-positioning cruise from LA - LOTS of fun! We're looking forward to meeting everyone!:goodvibes

So what excursions is everyone thinking about doing?

Hmmmm...hard to decide! There are several of interest! We will probably try to do the Garden Tea with Alice in Wonderland in Saint John, since DD is 6 and would probably love that. St. Andrews-by-the-Sea looks lovely, too. For Halifax, I'm not sure. Maybe the whale watching, since it is only a 2-2.5 hour excursion and we could do something else the rest of the day. The Silva Sailing Ship looks fun, too! Really, there are several things in each port that look fun. Trying to figure out what DD would enjoy the most!

For anyone interested, I called DCL about pre-cruise hotels and here is what they told me for 2 adults and 1 child (6):

Marriott Marquis: $794
Lowes Regency: $1020
Westin Times Square: $744

Definitely better deals to be had on hotels.com or some other site, especially if you do the non-refundable room. Just thought others might be interested!

We are looking at the Westin for $288/night on hotels.com, but it is a king bed. I'd kind of rather DD and I share and my mom have her own bed. There is an Intercontinental Times Square that looks reasonable and nice, with 2 double beds. We ended up booking the Courtyard Marriott Times Square. 2 nights for $532, including all taxes. Not bad for NYC. Plus, it had 2 beds, as opposed to a king, and offered free cancellation, just in case. I thought that was reasonable. We're just sleeping there, after all, not moving in!

Oh, and I got us Wicked tickets for the Saturday night show before the cruise. Dang those were pricey! But, I've never seen it and really want to, so oh well. Am hoping for maybe Lion King or Mary Poppins for that Friday night before the cruise, but at a discount!

I'm thinking of doing one of those CityPass things for the Empire State Building, Liberty Island ferry, museums, etc. But...the Statue itself is closed for renovations and we did the ESB a couple years ago...just not sure what we want to do, tourist-wise. The Museum of Natural History might be fun. We did the NYC Children's Museum last time when DD was 3.5 and she loved it! She might be too old for it now though. We also did Central Park Zoo last time, so could leave the museum-going to my mom and head to the Bronx Zoo. Any ideas on must-do NYC with a 6 year old girl? Yes, I'm already stalking the American Girl Place reservations, lol! And she doesn't even play with the dolls. Shhhh...mommy wants to go....!

I also pre-purchased some OBC for the cruise so I don't have to worry about coming up with all the $$$ later. You can do that as you go along and it really helps. Like a savings account that doesn't earn interest, but that I can't really get my hands on, lol. Really getting excited now!!!

Oh my gosh, Sabrecmc, I am laughing as I read your plans b/c my DD is 5 and I want to do so much of what you are planning! :thumbsup2

I want to see Wicked but don't know if we will fit it in, both schedule-wise AND budget for this trip! Also my traveling group have all seen it I think, but I doubt it would be difficult to persuade them to see it again :goodvibes

Have seen Lion King on Broadway (years ago) and absolutely LOVED it! What a beautiful production! Have not seen Mary Poppins but would also like to see that. popcorn::

My mom is also cruising with us and has frequently commented that she wants to take DD to American Girl in NYC when she's old enough to enjoy/appreciate it! princess:

*Sigh* I guess I really need to extend this trip to fit in some good NYC time as well! Now to convince DH who is already regretting not being able to join us this trip! :guilty:

Just wanted to let you know we are no longer doing this cruise. We switched to September. We booked the Dream in November 2013 for our anniversary cruise and were looking to save some money but still wanted to cruise out of NYC. The September cruises are less expensive. The money we are saving will almost pay for our November 2013 cruise.

Hope everyone has a great time.

Linda

Happy to say we will be joining you! Booked it today with our DVC points!

We are Werner (49), Michelle (42), Eric (17) and Emily (11). We are midship
2nd deck but the cabin #s are escaping me as I write this! We live about an hour north of NYC so we are very excited to not have to fly to take this cruise! This will be our 4th cruise...1 on the wonder and this is our 3rd on the Magic!

Any organized fish extender gift exchanges yet? I quickly skimmed the thread, saw it mentioned a few times, but didn't see anything official. Did I overlook it? We are interested!
