NYC restaurants ??

We will be visiting NYC (specifically Manhattan) in June for 5 days!!
Tell me about some restaurants that are a MUST??

We loved Junior's specifically for the cheesecake! We went after we saw a play. They have at least 2locations, one in Grand Central Station, and near the Marriott in Times Square.

The other restaurant we enjoyed was the cafeteria in the boathouse in Central Park. There is a fancy restaurant there as well, but we went to the cafeteria. It was a great lunch, and very reasonably priced. We had done a tour of Central Park, and asked the tour guide for a recommendation.

If you like burgers, 5 Napkins was highly recommended by the warm-up guy from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. We were headed out of town the next morning, so couldn't check it out.

We were just there over Easter. If you like Mexican, Toloache in Times Square was fantastic! I loved everything we tried there. One word of warning--it was LOUD! Absolutely worth it, though.

Another standout was Del Posto. It was pricey but elegant and delicious. Service was impeccable.

Del Frisco's Steakhouse in the Avenue of the Americas. It's 3 floors and very beautiful. We have been there twice. First view was of Radio City Music Hall and the other was a view of the Fox News Building and news scroll. It's pricey, but they do have a pre-fixe menu, but we had to ask. We had their house salad which was absolutely yummy, steak tidbits served with mashed potatoes and a merlot wine sauce and either chocolate mousse or strawberry cheesecake for dessert. The have a pasta, fish or meat entrée. The price was $49.99. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere is sooo NYC. I recommend it to anyone that asks your question.

I love to eat in the East Village when I am in NY. They have a lot of great ethnic cuisine, and it is usually more reasonably priced than a lot of the more touristy places.

It's heart attack inducing type fast food but it sure was yummy and reasonably priced compared to other options in that area. And quick!

What is your budget range? There are fantastic things for $8 a head, and there are fantastic things for $200 a head, but they're different lists.

Lupa, Il Mulino, Sarabeth's (every location is great), Jeckyl & Hyde's is just FUN, Serendipity for dessert, Carmine's, Nobu is amazing, Recette, Havana Central and Calle Ocho in Excelsior Hotel are great Latin, Juniors for cheesecake...

I could literally go on ALL day!

I second del posto. It's a Michelin starred resto (or was, haven't checked lately). Times Square is a total food wasteland if you're a foodie. What budget, cuisine, atmosphere are you looking for? Something kid friendly? Adult trip? Special occasion? If you have no kids or kids over 12 and want to experience a 3 Michelin starred resto at a reasonable price, Jean Georges at lunch is a must. Make res in advance for fine dining via opentable. Definitely check out Eataly. Get some dim sum and wander around Chinatown. Gramercy tavern and spotted pig are fabulous and somewhat kid friendly (don't expect kid menus at nice restos). If you are the type of person who is happy eating Applebee's quality food and are brining kids, most kids LOVE Max Brenner's - it is a chocolate themed resto with surprisingly decent chocolate mixed drinks. Alice's tea cup is a lot of fun for a light lunch or snack, SUPER kid friendly and huge scones. Nice tea selection, dedicated kid menu. Luke's is a good value for lobster rolls. Recommend Tulsi for Indian or hit up one of the many Indian lunch buffets for like $12.

Don't eat the cart pretzels. They are nasty and sanitation with random carts can be an issue. I got sick a few years ago from cart chestnuts. DO hit up Shake Shack for NYC iconic stand burgers. Get a hot dog at gray's papa or a Sandwich at Carnegie deli or Katz for the photo op if iconic restos are big for you. Quality has declined over the years and prices have gone up, but they're still not a terrible choice for tourist spot food.

Do eat things you can't get at home. NYC has so much to offer culinary tourists.

Oh and Dylan's candy bar is worth a visit, as is momo***u's milk bar for a slice of crack pie.

We were just in NYC last weekend and went to Sangria 49 (i think the number was 49), it was only one street off Times Square, super yummy Spanish food and very reasonable.

We also had brunch at Ulysesse in the Financial District. That was pretty good was well, but it was located in an alley with lots of other choices.

I learned that the resturants all have rating signs in their windows re: how clean the kitchen was.

We love Vincent's Italian restaurant on the corner of Mott & Hester in Little Italy. Dessert is just around the corner at Ferrara's Bakery on Mulberry. Also, great pizza at John's of Bleeker just off 7th Ave in the West Village.

There are thousands & thousands of restaurants in NYC. I suggest hitting Tripadvisor for ratings & opinions.

I always get cheesecake from Juniors in Grand Central Station to take home.

If you like burgers, I highly suggest JG Melons, it's on the upper east side (1291 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10021 - it's at 74th st).

PJ Clarke's are almost (but not quite) as good 915 Third Avenue, at 55th Street You might recognize this location as a bar from Mad Men.

I am not a huge fan of Asian food, but I have heard there are some really awesome Dim Sum places in Chinatown.

I have always wanted to do a really nice, classic steakhouse as well.

Thanks for asking this question. We are taking DD15 in June also! Our DD has nut allergies though, so eating out can be a little tricky sometimes.
