NYC news to be announced tomorrow

The idea of seeing random strange families projected onto the castle just does not appeal to me at all. It would be great for the family in the picture, but who else? If I'm taking pictures of the castle I don't really want Joe Blow from Small Town, USA grinning back at me from one of the walls.

You know what would be cool?
To link photopass with your resort room, so digital pictures of your family enjoying their day would be up on your wall when you got back. If there were no pictures taken, the frames could be blank or have a generic scene.
This would be a great way to personalize and make it "your" room during your stay.

wow I love your idea far far more than the disney idea.

Why havent they already put photopass barcodes on the keys to the world cards? seems so obvious!

Plus with your idea, you're more likely to see more of your photopass pictures - and so more likely to buy them so it would actually be bringing in money for them as well!

Fantastic idea.

...or they could do the opposite and take photos in your resort room and then show those photos on the castle the next day. ;)

I agree...not that I was expecting much of the announcement, but I can't say it does anything to make me want to run back to Disney World next year.

Your idea is would be fantastic, but a bit untenable. (To put special frames in each room would cost a lot of money for Disney.) What they certainly *could* do is have a channel on the TV where you could watch a slide-show of your photopass pictures...even set to music. Then press a button to order your photopass CD!

Part of the problem is that Year of a Million Dreams was *such* a great promotion...and actually though "What will you celebrate?" wasn't as good as that, it was still a nice promotion that still involved giveaways. Disney is probably right to put out a promotion that doesn't give anything away. After a few years, we're all starting to expect them to "give" us stuff.

wow, not only do I have no interest in seeing strangers faces on the castle, I certainly don't want MY face blown up on the castle either, lol. What a horrible idea.

What a load of crap Disney is still headed in the wrong direction, again what a load of crap.

Ahhh Yes Memories.... I have memories of a time when Disney exceeded expectations and could actually deliver on things.

Aren't they still giving you a ticket if you run the marathon?

Define "wrong direction"

if you mean a cheap attempt at selling more photos...then yeah...i guess you hit it on that one.

But that isn't their wrong direction...that's exactly where the priority is/ has been for about 20 years.

Each time i hear "big announcement" you see these theories about what cool new thing they'll build to include in the price of admission i can ride....or in the case of DVC...cool new room i can book with points that have long since been paid for...

But that is NOT how Disney operates. They build when they their statistical analysis says that they have no other options to continue the development of the revenue streams. And they probably agree to do so while Iger, Staggs, and Rasulo throw up in barf bags in the boardroom - sickened by all the money they'll "waste" building new facilities.
The more i look at it...the more the fantasyland expansion wasn't about Harry Potter or "staying ahead of the curve" at all. And it sure isnt' about technological innovation or artistic endeavour. It was the next step in the princess fairy MARKETING scheme (to sell product) that they have pursued for 10 years.
And what quietly slipped out a few months ago (no press event:worship: )? that perhaps the "plans have changed". Yeah...you bet your hiney...they're changing downwards.

What was the rumor this time around? Spain? Coaster in MGM? DVC next to an existing DVC next to the campground?

please...of those rumors only the DVC even makes any disney-sense right now. because it would mean more upfront cash, more dues, more bodies, more turnstiles spinning, and more food and merch purchased.

The other two are laughable....more construction cost for no new revenue? 500 mil to "further the magic"? :lmao:

I commented on the fantasy land expansion....how about their last endeavour...midway mania. gee...that was a nice gift to us, the fans. except we gave them several BILLIONS of merchandise revenue on Toy Story 3 and the product this year alone. They play us like a fiddle. lambs to the slaughter.

OK...i'm rough, and harsh...and slightly sarcastic. But honestly...am i that far out? can you say i'm wrong?
maybe...but it should take alot of pondering even if you do come to that decision.

Can't wait to see my 3 year old have his picture with his finger up his nose on a fiberglass facade infront of a brazillian tour group...with a limited edition collectible portrait/ frame that can be purchased from Exposition hall for a mere $44.95

I wish i had guts...i wish we all had guts...and started to withhold our money until some of these trends reversed:

A. streamlined, mass produced/ mass imported chinese merchandise that is cheaply made and has no specialization or quality to it. (pretty soon i think they won't even bother printing the "2010" on the tshirts when they think they'll be able to get away with just selling 5 colors of the same screen print year after year...think of the savings!)
B. Streamlined menu, overbooked restaurants that are about squeezing blood from the rocks as a revenue source instead of being viewed as an experience that is part of the park
C. taking things offline and never replacing them...allowing decay...not correcting mistakes or seeing a vision through (examples are numerous...but the space mountain "rehab" and a largely abandoned carousel of progress fits perfectly)
D. saying "in these difficult times" at every public speaking opportunity...yet increasing all prices by 4 or so percent twice a year...annually

But i know i won't do it....and i know nobody else will either:woohoo:

30 days to my next trip:yay:

Hey Lockedoutlogic!

I would love to hear your take on the Duffy the bear garbage which they are trying to sell to us starting October 14, 2010!

After reading the OBJ article last night, and witnessing the live feed announcement this afternoon, I am at a loss for words. This was nothing more than a publicity stunt. I was thinking that their choice of venue in the Big Apple meant that they were making a big announcement. 15 minutes into it I was like, OK when are we getting to the good stuff? What a disappointment.

By wrong I mean not announceing something innovative like Mysterious Island, BK, or something even entertaining like the MI coaster.

Notice that they didn't even mention FLE just proves they have no clue what to due with FLE.

They did mention the Ariel attraction, but I think they only mentioned it in the context of DCA. They really didn't announce anything at all WDW-specific, did they?

I get the feeling that when it comes to the FLE they are just winging it pretty much.

Sure looks like a weak attempt at creating a disney cruiseline "mascot" to me. which could then be converted into tees, plushes, notepads, snowglobes, bathtoys, and my favorite...those ANNOYING car antenna toppers!

World travels...sailor outfit...seems like they are trying to fill some kinda "niche" that their statistical analysis has identified (Team: BORG)

or else they're just trying to sell another plush with "customizable" accessories at an exhorbinant profit margin....

mickey's bear for your new disney prince/ princess? baby item is a possibility too.

Many angles could be...but cheap high profit merchandise is the only possible answer.

not too shocking

I think this is a very critical - if under the radar - turning point in disney parks.

By their own admission, its the biggest addition to WDW since Animal Kingdom...which means it should be impactful...not new gate type but well above the bump of a new ride.

And they are kinda rusty at this...the last park disney financed to a large extent that could be classified as a "success" is Animal Kingdom...and i grudgingly say that.

the other 3 since have been horrible in one way or another...and they have spent 10 years on "fixes" in France, China, and Anaheim...

So now they go ahead and roll out this 500mil-billion dollar "major redesign" last year...in the middle of a down travel period

very convenient...and i'm not thoroughly convinced it all wasn't kinda the "statue of liberty" play.

all fans eyes should be on this. cuz star tours is still gonna be a lame simulator ride. the fantasyland rehab should be them proving they can do something the quality way....

...i fear it is about merchandise

What a disappointment! Every year it get more boring than the last, who came up with these stupid ideas? Who would want to spend $1000s of $$ to take their family to see other people's pictures on the castle. Seriousely!!
