I am going to NYC to see a show and will only be there for a night, really won't be in the room until late and will leave early so I do not need anything fancy, just something reasonable and safe. (Show will be at Madison Square Gardens). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Boy, that is the million dollar question, no pun intended. We are trying to plan a trip during the holidays to NYC to sightsee and see a couple shows. I can't believe the hotel prices! :scared1: 4 nights is going to price out to what we usually spend on a week long cruise and that is before we see one show, eat one meal, etc... I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one. I am eager to see any replies that you get.

Check out Hotwire and betterbidding.com. I'm going to NYC on the 13th and got the Warwick for $150/night, which would have been $300/night normally. Sorry that I don't have suggestions for a particular hotel, but hopefully you can save some money on whatever you find.

also check the hotel rating on tripadvisor.com the best site for honest hotel reviews!!!!!

I stayed in the new yorker which is right across the street from Madison and it was lovely. The rooms are of an excellent standard and the Tick Tock diner is great for breakfast if you are in a hurry. :thumbsup2

If you are willing to wait until the last minute to book the site lastminutetravel.com is a great option for Manahattan. There is also a trick so they you are not booking "blind". Kind of involved - pm if you are interested.

I stayed at Affinia Manhattan which is across the street from Madison Square Garden. I got it cheap on travelzoo - $159 for a 1 bedroom suite.

Priceline was invented for such situations.

I agree, we have gotten $500 a night rooms for $150 in the past in NYC and that was even around the holidays. Just be careful what areas you put in and make sure you do 4 stars or 3 at the least.

Are you willing to consider staying in New Jersey and using public transportation into/out of the city? That would save you a bunch of money.

We use Priceline quite a bit but not for this trip to NYC. It is only a go if you only have 2 people or are booking in an area where you can easily request a room with 2 doubles. There are way too many rooms that only accommodate 2 persons in the city to book through Priceline.

I am checking out vacationrentals.com for a condo or apartment rental but they are only reasonable for a multiple day rental.

We were looking at a hotel near the Meadowlands, but I didn't know what the transportation to Madison Square would be like. The website said it was less than 4 miles, anyone know how much a taxi would cost.

I'm from nyc and always tell my friend to book the Crowne Plaza in times Square. They love it. I love it. Its about 280 on the weekend.

a cab from the meadowlands could be extremely costly if you were to get caught in the traffic in the tunnel

the embassy suites is very nice and has a wonderful breakfast included though it is downtown-it is very nice and usually reasonable

Can you please give some tips or advice for NJ transportation into Manhattan? We're thinking of heading to NYC to check out the holiday decorations. I've been looking at hotels in the Jersey City area.

We just got back from NYC. We stayed in NJ and relied on public transportation to and from the hotel. It was a hassle. We missed the last bus and it cost 70 for a cab to get back. Plus cabs to and from the port authority cost alot. If we go back we are planning on staying in the Marriot, right across the street from where the Broadway plays are. I checked online for what we would have spent on a room at the Marriot and it wasn't much more by the time you add cab fare, bus fare, and the cost of the room in NJ.
