We are staying at the Crowne Plaza on 49th and Broadway the night before and are curious about walking to the port as well. Anyone have any knowledge about this?

I used to work right next to the Crown Plaza....I would take a cab. The blocks going East to West are very long, twice as long or more than the blocks running North - South....Plus getting across the West side Hwy is tricky..it a very busy road.

Cabs will not be that much money....good luck...

I agree! 3 to a cab, maximum $5 per person, including tip. Can't imagine walking that distance with luggage & crossing West Side Highway.

anyone seen any igt,ogt,vgt rates for canada?. seen them for the bahamas but not for canada havent looked at every cruise. just wondering im not planning on going until sep. if the ship fills up before i book or price goes up no biggie i just wont go and save some money.

I guess we will see how we feel that morning. This hotel is at 11th and 48th so not far, didn't want to look like a wimp jumping in and out of a cab for such a little way . And we thought there was a light and crosswalk at the end of 48th (that is what it looked like on google earth anyway) so? No way would I attempt to cross if no light & crosswalk there!

Your hotel does not sound as far aways as the Crowne Plaza...just be careful crossing the WestSide Hwy....Have a great cruise....

Need advice on best way for a family of 5 to get from La Guardia to our hotel near Times Square on July 10 at 5:30 pm. The hotel suggested we just wait at a taxi stand until a van taxi comes by, but does anyone know if this is often?

Also, is anyone else planning on booking the post-cruise excursions that take you to the airport? I know they're pricey, but since our flight doesn't leave until 4:30, they seem a nice convenient way to get some more sightseeing and a trip to the airport without much fuss. My only worry is that we can't book them until we get on the cruise (that really bugs me...what if they don't go? How can we be assured that they will happen.). I need a back-up plan also...anyone have any suggestions?

I was planning to book the post-cruise excursion too for the same reason. I would normally just tour by myself in NYC but I don't know what to do with my luggage and our flight isn't until 4pm. We are on the July 15th cruise. It makes this overplanner very nervous and as or right now I don't have a backup plan.

We're on the July 20 cruise and we will be in New York for 10 days prior, so we're fine with doing everything on our own. Its the luggage and getting to the airport and really, enjoying the last half-day of vacation relaxing rather than sitting in the airport that's worth it for us.

We did the post-cruise excursion on our baltic cruise and it was fabulous. However, it was nerve-wracking as they needed 20 people to go and they wouldn't committ until the last night! They did run it with only 14 though.

Hoping that there are others who are interested. Do need a back-up plan though. I suppose we can just take a taxi to the airport and sit there. Boring!

I did a post cruise excursion to Montserrat last year out of Barcelona that dropped off at DCL hotels and it was a great excursion, but it was a pain having to wait to see if the excursion would go. I figure they should offer them or not.

I found this from a thread on cruise critic of a place that will store luggage in NYC.

"In theory you have some time to do sightseeing...the problem is what to do with your luggage. You can't store it at the pier.

Another suggestion is to use Schwartz Travel http://schwartztravel.com/ for luggage storage.. You can take a taxi from the pier to either their W 36th St. or W. 46th St. location, depending on which one is closer to where you may want to sightsee, drop off your bags, do some sightseeing, come back to Schwartz Travel, pick up your luggage, and take an taxi from there to EWR. From the practical perspective of expense and how much time you'll actually have for sightseeing this may not be very satisfactory. "

Another option since you are staying pre cruise, maybe you could ask the bellman at the hotel you are staying at if they would store your luggage for you the day you get off the cruise.

This time info from trip advisor. Google, Dial 7, sounds like they are recommended often and they have different size cars, for 3, I was quoted $29 plus tolls to midtown, bigger car would be more, but I am not sure how easy it is to get van taxi's at LGA, so I would want to pre book.

We're booked on the NY/Canada cruise on 9/7. We've decided to fly and I'm about to book, but I was just wondering what times would work. I can't do online check in until the 23rd so we're not quite sure when we will be boarding. I was thinking I would pick flights that arrive in to JFK at 9:45 or 11:15am and cab it to the Manhattan terminal. For disembarkation I was thinking of catching a 12:30pm flight (cabbing it back to JFK). Do these times seem feasible? I have two young ones so don't want to be waiting around a bunch, but also don't want to miss the boat. Feedback is much appreciated.

I haven't been on my NYC cruise yet (come on June 17th ) but I would for sure do the 9:45 over the 11:15. I always fly in a day ahead of time because I don't want a flight delay to cost me my cruise, and if that 11:15 flight was delayed very much you could not make it to NYC in time at all.

I haven't been on my NYC cruise yet (come on June 17th ) but I would for sure do the 9:45 over the 11:15. I always fly in a day ahead of time because I don't want a flight delay to cost me my cruise, and if that 11:15 flight was delayed very much you could not make it to NYC in time at all.

I would agree, if you have to fly in on the same day as the cruise, make sure you have as early a flight as possible. If you fly into LaGuardia, those flights are notoriously delayed, and JFK is quite busy as well. Newark might be the best for flying into, its not as congested as the other 2 airports. Also consider luggage, etc...

That said, I would arrive the night before if possible. You don't want to miss the boat!

If you must fly in same-day, I highly recommend insurance and make sure it will cover the cost of the cruise if you miss the ship.

We're just doing a non-stop from Boston which is a quick 1hr. We plan on doing carry on too. I rather not fly in the night before and stay in a hotel and I don't really think it's necessary since it's such a short flight. I read that you're not allowed in until your designated boarding time. Just don't want to arrive super early at the cruise terminal with my 2 young ones and have nothing to do, esp. if the weather is cold, rainy, etc.
