Hi all,

I am meeting my sister and my two nieces (9 and 12) in NYC for a weekend in February. I looked at the DVC option (Shelburne?) and it didn't seem appealing or cost-efffective (did they change the NYC option - I thought it was a different hotel a few years ago?) ...anyway, it looked a little too business-like for our trip. Does anyone have suggestions for a great place to stay - we'll be doing a Broadway show etc. I'm hoping to keep it to about $250/night - or any suggestions for where to find good winter deals?

Thanks :)

I would NEVER use DVC trades to stay in NYC!

The fee for using the concierge collection itself is outrageous for such a reservation, imho...

DW and I usually just checkout Hotwire.com and/or bid on Priceline for something in the Time Square area. We have never paid more than $150 per night. Save the money on a room and see a great show and eat like royalty!

Have you tried the Edison? It is located on 47th street and Broadway and adjacent to Times Square.

DVC took the Shelburne off the list (not sure why). The current option is The Regency. This is a well-known upscale Manhattan hotel located in the Park/Madison Avenue area (not far from Bloomies). However, point cost is high. (Originally the world famous Plaza Hotel was our option -- they underwent a condo conversion and were taken off the list during construction).

Since February is pretty darn cold and Broadway is your primary destination, I'd start with hotels in that area. Marriott Marquis is always a good choice but many others are in the area now as well.

I have stayed at the Marriott Marquis, it is smack dab in the middle of Times Square, our rate was $199 a night over Memorial Day weekend a few years ago. I have also stayed at the Hotel QT which is right around the corner from Planet Hollywood in Times Square, (about 160 a night two years ago) it is a simplistic boutique type hotel, much different than the Marquis, but breakfast was included. There were a lot of young travelers from Europe in this hotel. I would stay both places again. I have also stayed at the Milford Plaza, this hotel is about one block from Times Square, kind of in the direction of the Port Authority. It is an older hotel, and the decor was certianly nothing special. I would most definitely stay at the Marquis again, or the QT, but there isn't anything exciting about the Milford Plaza so that would be a last resort but i'd stay there again. I wouldn't use points though, they want too much for the point exchange you are better off paying cash.

I haven't been on the boards in a few months, and forgot how wonderful it is - so many great suggstions in such a short timeframe - thanks everyone, feel free to send more along!
