NY and NJ visitors

I saw a few posts today claiming you can get tested after 72 hours, and if it comes back negative you don’t have to quarantine. I have no idea if this information is accurate. I couldn’t seem to find a source to confirm it or if it even applies to the tri state area. Any ideas?

I haven't found any info that says anything about testing being a way to bypass or shorten a quarantine. Although the travel advisory has been only announced several hours ago and probably the details are still yet to come.

However, the NYS Dept of Health webpage on quarantining, even before the announcement, doesn't say anything using testing as a way to shorten a quarantine:
https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/travel-large-gatherings-and-quarantines

The NY Gov hasn't mentioned it either. He only mentions quarantining:
https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/go...t-announce-joint-incoming-travel-advisory-all

Also, in regard to being tested after 72 hours, the only time I've seen that time period is when one is recovering from COVID. A person is supposed to wait 72 hours after the last known symptom, like fever, coughing, and then get tested to make sure they are really recovered.

As for first suspecting one may have COVID or been exposed to it, it has been suggested to wait until 5 days after suspected exposure,(i.e. one could have gotten it on the plane,) as it could take that long for symptoms to incubate and first appear, and up to a full 14 days. So the 72 hours doesn't seem to apply to this.

Sorry. :flower3:

Thanks for all the info 🙂

Thanks for all the info 🙂

@Jen0107c Now, a reporter on our local news said that the Govs said travelers from the 8 travel advisory states can come up here and get tested to see if they've been exposed to COVID-19. I don't know if she just means that one can get a test here. But, it might not affect shortening the quarantine time. We have testing sites all over. Many of them are running well below capacity as NY, NJ & CT have such low COVID cases now. Meanwhile the news in FL showed lines of cars, 3 lanes across, and stretching for miles, of people waiting to get a COVID test.

The CT Gov., on GMA this morning, said his state is currently not imposing fines, like NY is. They don't fine for other COVID offenses, as CT people have been good about adhering to the safe protocols set. So he'd like to keep that up. Yet, if things get out of hand there with people not quarantining, he will ramp things up, if necessary. CT is going to tell travel agents to tell their customers, "Don't come to CT unless they get tested first before coming here, or know they will have to quarantine. For hotels, we're going to go to them all and tell them to let the customers know they will have to quarantine if they come to CT.

Like, NY, he does want the CT residents to report if they see quarantine violators. They are to call 211. (In NY, contact the NYS Dept of Health.)

Last, he was asked what message he'd like to convey to the rest of the country who are going through what we went through, having been so hard hit months earlier. He said, he had been talking to the other governors on the travel advisory list and asked them what's been going on. At first they said it was more testing.

He said no, your hospitalizations are up. They finally said that probably in CT, everybody knows somebody that not just lost a job, but that they know somebody that lost their life. And that's maybe not true in some of those other states. We in CT, NJ, & NY, are likely to take it much more seriously here. He hopes that translates around to the rest of the country.

Ugh, we’ve been in the Outer Banks for a week and a half, in our camper, on a pretty empty beach. I’ve been around less people here than the last several months at home.
But now DH is going to have to WFH for 2 more weeks since he works in NJ (we live in PA). That’s going to be awesome since his work piled up while he was here.

You’re so helpful!

VT is allowing testing to avoid their travel restrictions. Depending on where you are coming from, you may be required to do a 14 day quarantine either at your home before traveling or upon arrival in VT. You can substitute a 7 day quarantine followed by a negative test.

We are lucky, we are renting an ocean front 8 bedroom house in Point Pleasant, plenty of room, staying away from the boardwalk and restaurants. We will bring supplies from home and order takeout and grocery delivery. My sister’s family is flying in from Chicago, luckily they shut down well in the beginning.

Too funny - we are staying a few minutes away in an ocean front house (my family). Luckily we are from states that can travel into NJ. I feel also that staying in a private house (on what I hear will be a pretty empty private beach) is a pretty safe vacation. Of course all these plans were made at the beginning of the year and I believe we would have lost our deposit if we had cancelled.

This is what's going on in some heads. Scary angry people.

More like: Screwy angry people.

Washington State, which had originally been included, has been dropped from the list today, after a further review of the data.

The infection rate formula to be a travel advisory state is: 10 new positive cases per 100,000 people on a 7-day rolling average, or at least 10% of the total population is COVID-19 positive on a 7-Day rolling average.

Current states on list: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

I think it's actually indefinite, and if not, I expect it to be extended due to the ramp up of our cases. Vacation travel really doesn't make a whole lot of sense now anyway.
It is ridiculous to block states that are the best in the country. Then florida should ban all states Or they are discriminating. I do not expect it to continue. Vacation travel choices are personal choices so they may make sense to some people.

Exactly. It would be one thing if they were telling all visitors to quarantine. Instead they are singling out states who are doing better than much of the country. It made sense when the order first came out. It makes no sense now.

That’s what I’m so confused about. The tri state area is continuing to see a downward trend. It just doesn’t make sense.

How do you even respond to that level of lunacy?
Yeah, we need to have somebody check the water in Palm Beach County. Palm Beach County is always a little weird, but this is off the charts...even for them!

Well, it may change. If was originally until early July, then a lot of the restrictions were extended indefinitely. I think the actual reason for the indefinite extension was just so they didn't have to keep re-doing executive orders every month.

I agree it no longer makes much sense, but we'll see what happens.

It also may be a moot point, because if case levels keep rising none of the parks may actually be open anyway.

LA was removed from the list when their cases started to drop. Just seems odd to me.

I wasn't even thinking of the parks. I'm just talking about Florida in general. My son was thinking of driving dowan and visiting a friend a few weeks ago.
