we're coming over to Orlando May16th >06th June - our fourth visit, and are flying with NorthWest Airlines for the first time, UK to Detroit then Detroit to Orlando.
Has anyone any experience of NWA? also has anyone been to Detroit airport?
My wife reckons she's heard bad reports about Detroit and I'm trying to convince her it's all in her head! We'll be there for about 5 hours.
Hope someone can help
thanks

Detroit airport is no different really than any other major metropolitan airport in the US. It's not very sexy, but I don't think it's particularly unsafe. I was there a few years ago, and I likened it to Newark Int'l. It's fine for what it is, but I would not want to be there for an extended period of time.

northwest is based her in MN where I live so I have flown them quite a bit. Aside from prices being high (at least for my area), the service is fine and they are pretty good about being on time.
Of course, you will always find someone with a differing opinion, but in my years of infrequent flying, I haven't had a problem/.

I've lived in the suburbs all of my 35 (ouch!) years. Detroit Metro is southwest of the city and perfectly safe, although not a very pretty airport. We are in the process of adding a new and much needed terminal which will eliviate conjestion. As for things to see and do during your 5 hour layover...there's not much! I would suggest visiting the "Cheers" bar in the main NW terminal for a drink and snack. Also, you may want to pick up a Cinnabun to snack on during your flight - they're awesome if you have a sweet tooth! There's some limited shopping, but not much else. As far as Northwest is concerned, Detroit is a major hub for them, so they have quite a few flights departing daily. I fly them an average of 4 times a year and have very few complaints. We just flew NW round trip to Orlando from Detroit two weeks ago and both flights were on time and uneventful. Have a wonderful trip!
