Today was Animal Kingdom day and I had everyone up and out by 8 am. We get to AK and they let us in just far enough to see the bus with Minnie & Goofy & Pluto. The kids can't see and Babe offers to hold them up on his shoulders one at a time. "Are you kidding?" I tell him. "They're almost big enough to carry us." I didn't want him to hurt himself. I tell them to get ready cause we're going to veer left to the Safari ride. Well, when they let us through everyone else went left too. We were like a swarm of bees headed for a picnic. We got to the Safari and walked right on. Babe videotaped and I took pictures, but it was so difficult with all the bumping from the jeep. The animals were up and about, but the boys didn't seem to impressed with them. I originally was going to skip this park, but changed my mind. I guess I should have stuck with the original plan. After the ride, we went through the trails, but it seemed extremely hot out there. Everyone was wearing down early. We go through the bat house and I'm trying to lean my camera against the glass to take a picture, but I just keep going forward. Oh, my gosh! There's no glass! I think it kind of freaked the kids out so we left.
They were getting hungry, so we took them to Pizzafari for lunch. When we came out there was an African man playing the xylophone and he got my boys to join him. He gave them gourds with beads on them to shake! I loved this moment! I'm taking pictures of them and thinking, "I can't believe my boys are live entertainment at WDW!" I looked at Babe, who was behind them and we gave each other the biggest smiles. After that we stop and watch the incredible dancers in front of some bar/lounge. It was getting hotter and the boys kept misting themselves so we went on to Flame Tree (where I insisted that me & Babe eat). We ordered the BBQ beef sandwich, ribs and seasoned fries and split everything. It was way too much food! Babe and I LOVED THE RIBS! We're still talking about them. We're from Texas and know our BBQ and those ribs were to die for!
After stuffing ourselves, I figured we better go to the Bug 3D show. It also gave us a chance to study the incredible carved animals on the tree. Babe asked what kind of ride this was and we all know what he was thinking. "It's a movie, Babe." We went right in the tree and sat down and I immediately hid my camera. Babe caught me and said, "We're gonna get wet, aren't we?" I couldn't keep it secret this time. The show was so much fun! I kept flinching every time something shot out at me. When the termitator said he shot out acid, Sci-fi Guy yelled, "Noooo, it's gonna burn!" I laughed, he's so literal! "No, it's just water," I tell him. I was wrong, it was freezing cold water. Babe covered his nose & mouth from the stink bug. Cheater! Whenever the show ended and the bugs left the room first, Babe yelled, "What the!" and jumped out of his seat. He could feel them under his bottom. I thought it was soo funny cause his part-time job is pest control!
We get out of the tree and now it's beyond hot! The kids want to go to Dinoland but we need to cool off first. So, off to Kali River Rapids! We get there and Sci-Fi Guy asks me if there are any drops. "No," I tell him, "It's just like the one at Six Flags back home." Or so I thought. We get on and he sits with Babe, while I sit with Loudboy. We're going along and I notice it's a lot faster and rougher than the one at Six Flags, then here it comes! There is a drop, not big, but huge to Sci-fi. We're going down and on his side. He yells, "You said there were no ddrrrrooooppppsss!" "I'm sorry, I promise I didn't know!" It wasn't on the DISboards. We were soaked, which was good since it was so hot. Now let's go to Dinoland.
They didn't care to do anything in Dinoland except ride Triceratops Spin. I asked Sci-fi Guy would ride Primeval Whirl and he agrees, I can't believe it! Babe says, "No way, I don't like spinning." "Well, you can walk across when we get on." I tell him, but I was hoping I could talk him into it by the time we got there. I keep showing him the other people riding and that no one is hardly spinning. He says "No, I'll get sick." "C'mon, even Sci-fi's getting on, please Babe." I beg. "Fine, just watch! I'm gonna ride it and then be sick the rest of the day." He's mad now. "Nevermind, I say. Sorry, you can walk across." Now he insists on riding just to prove me wrong. We get on and I sit with Sci-fi Guy next to me. I snap a picture as we're ascending the track and then we're off. We didn't hardly spin but we jerked a lot. The ride is rough on the back. When we got to the drops, Sci-Fi is clinging on to my right arm and screaming. I'm laughing my head off! Bad mother! Babe is watching Sci-fi's expressions and laughing his head off. He doesn't look to sick! We get off and I notice that my skin is torn off on my right arm and it's in the shape of 5 fingernails. Thanks son! "Sorry, Mom. I didn't know I was doing that." "That's okay," I say. "Would you like to ride again?" "No thanks," he says. So Loudboy and I rode again while Babe and Sci-fi found a shady place to sit. We rode alone and I guess because of the lighter weight we spun the whole time. It was great! Forget those teacups, this is the ride!
After that the heat was really bad and no one was interested in the parade so we headed for "home" for an afternoon swim. On our way out, we saw Pluto, and Chip & Dale signing autographs, so we stopped and got in line.
We got some great pictures of Pluto pulling off their hats and being silly. We headed back to the hotel in our luxurious bus. I say luxurious because we got to sit this time. Today we're trying the "Hippy Dippy Pool" then clean up and go to Downtown Disney.
In the bus, I feel so gracious that I say, "Guys, thanks for being so good today and not complaining. I know it was really hot and you didn't say anything. We did a lot of walking and I know you're tired, but thank you for toughing it out." I made a mental note that next time we come to WDW we will skip AK.
