Does anyone know the answers to my baby nutrition Qs? I got the DDP [:guilty:not for free, boo.] for 2 adults & we'll have our little boy, [15months] with us. Does he just eat off our plates? I only ask b/c I want to make sure there are plenty of healthy choices. I could order him a kid's meal but all I see is chicken nuggets & mac & cheese. I need to be able to get him piece of grilled chicken or something very healthy. I'm not worried about fruit b/c I know that's everywhere. I want him to have his protein & veggies. Do they have whole milk @ CS & TS places? Thanks for your help!pirate:

I would assume you could order something healthy for yourself & share it with him.

You should be good with sharing. The portions, especially at CS, are huge. Definitely enough for 2 adults to share so you should be fine sharing with a 1 year old. I carried a backpack on our last trip with supplies and goodies(water, goldfish, fruit snacks etc.) for our DD4 with no issue so you could pack a few pieces of fruit or whatever to supplement if you want but I think you'll be fine sharing with him. If milk is your worry buy some of the Horizon shelf stable milk and pack it in a cooler bag to carry along in your stroller.
There are also plenty of healthy options to burn your snack credits on, just check the sticky at the top of the DDP page.

Ok I'll check @ the top of the page, thanks! I didn't see that.I like to have a balanced meal for him. I'll have to check allears for the adult meals.

Except for buffets, your son simply has to eat off your plate. Or buy separate meals for him out of pocket.
Kids under 3 don't actually eat free (except at buffets). They simply aren't included in any dining plan.

Some have chicken salad kids meals, most are nuggets, mac and cheese but they come with 2 items: carrots, grapes, yougart, and milk is an option so you can get decent side items.

Thank you for your post. This should not be too big of a problem for us. We will be buying some extras I'm sure.

Chicken salad would be good. But my son's so small he's no way ready to eat m&c or nuggets. So thank you for helping me out. I know it was an odd Q.But I want to be prepared. :goodvibes

For the past three years we have travelled with at least one little on that is not covered under the dining plan. We decided before going that we would pay out of pocket where need be to provide healthy options for our babies!
I have ordered a side of veggies, and a side of mashed potatos, even a grilled chicken breast if they can. This way I could serve it cut up really small or for the really little ones I could grind it at the table.

There is no whole milk in disney and to be perfectly honest, my children would never drink the milk that was served to them with a meal, I found out later it wasn't even 2 % it was 1% mickey milk. Fine for some children, but definitely not mine. I made sure I bought and stored the milk they needed in our room mini fridge. I would pack one for first thing in the morning and one when we would get back to the room. I also made sure that our fridge had yogurt and cheese, this way I could pack a little cooler to go with us and grab fruit snacks in the parks.
I was also told that if you buy an apple at a CS place they will cut it up for you if you ask.

Most of the buffets you can find items that all of the family can eat , even the babies. That definitely is the most bang for your buck if you are not wanting to spend much in addition to the dining plan. We definitely do not mind spending a little money if it means our kids are eating well!

I hope you enjoy your trip, you will have so much fun as a family!!

Many of the TS have more than just nuggets and mac and cheese. My kids have had great meals at \The Grand Floridian Cafe, Kona, The Wave etc. For QS there are many options and between the 3 of you you could easily share.

There is whole milk available (not everywhere but most from memory) however you need to ask for it specifically.

When DD was younger we did a mix of sharing and buying meals. She also had the mac'n'cheese but we had to cut it up! We also found some of the kids meals to be very dry and flavourless - and this still causes problems now as she likes to eat the same as us.

Both of my kids were on table food by 12 months so we just fed them off of our plates. Or, at buffets got them their own plate. As people stated, the kids meals come with a side and "dessert". Often, I would get chicken nuggets with grapes and applesauce. There are many healthy choices at WDW.

Oh good! We have Kona booked for our farewell meal. Looking forward to that!

Great! Thank you for letting me know about the milk. My husband was making fun of this Q. until i told him we'd have to find it & lug a cooler. So WE are happy to hear we can find it in some places.:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
The m&C would be fine w/ me if it's whole grain pasta. Does anyone know if it is?

Of course this trip we have lots of character meals for him, so buffets will be easy!! Thanx for the tip!:)

I was very interested in the tip about the whole milk. In the last 3 years that has not been our experience and I asked every where we went. I just called Disney and they can only tell me that the standard is the 1% mickey, they did away with the other options when disney tried to get more healthy for the kids menus. I asked if it was possible that some places would have whole milk available upon request. I was told it would be highly unlikely but you may have a chance at a signature restaurant.

I would love for it to be available at all counter service places, it would make my life soo much easier than lugging around a daily supply and trying to keep it cold in the blistering heat!

I would plan for it not to be available then you are not stuck. The buffets also have such great assortments you shouldn't have any trouble finding healthy options for you child.

I hope I didn't offend you with my earlier post, I was just stating how it has been our last few trips and we always have at least one baby in our family. My oldest just turned 4 and my youngest is 13 months now. We are expecting our 4th baby, so I guess this will not be my last trip with a babe in tow. lol.
Some of our best memories are with them so little at the parks. You will love the restaurants, it will give you time to relax and spend some down time with your little one!

I hope you have a great trip!

My I ask if there are medical concerns for the whole milk? I cannot imagine lugging it around in a cooler and not just using the 1 or 2%. I realize that young children are supposed to drink whole milk for the good fat in it (and my kids did) - but a vacations-worth of 1 or 2 percent will not negatively affect an otherwise healthy child. I would ask your pediatrician before lugging out a cooler. Yes, it is better for them and healthier but one week or so of vacation it is fine to curb their diet a bit.

I think that the big problem was that the kids wouldn't drink the milk because of the taste. 1% vs whole milk is a huge difference in taste. It goes both ways because I can't stand the taste of whole milk. I personally wouldn't lug milk around the parks either, but just let them drink in the morning and evening. Maybe I'm just lazy.

The M&C is not whole grain pasta.

At 15 months my kids were eating table food almost exclusively so they would just eat from our plates after we cut things up small.

Horizon has organic milk boxes that may be a good option if you are concerned about not having whole milk all day. We had whole milk in our hotel room for our DD the 1st time we went so she would get it for breakfast and in the evenings or during mid-day breaks, but i did not worry about it in restaurants. I was not going to worry about it so much in Disney.
(but honestly for us Disney is a place of "yes"-so we have a lot of things that do not happen back at home like getting ice cream or dessert more than once a day, allowing sodas, etc.)

I made a point of bringing some milk and buying a quart in our hotel gift shop which we kept in the fridge. He had milk 1st thing in the morning. A yogurt for snack, and milk with dinner. I decided not to worry if it was whole milk or not for a 5 day vaca. Otherwise, he just drank water throughout the day.

At 15 mos, my little guy was still pretty resistant to a lot of table food - Esp meat - so we fed him from our plates/buffets and supplemented with some baby food. We brought his favorite oatmeal to prepare for breakfast in the room, so he always started the day with that and some fruit.

He's 3 1/2 now, and though I've tried, he's a bit pickier that I imagined he'd be. I eat ANYTHING, so this is hard for me ;). I decided that for sanity's sake, I'd not worry so much about food for vacation. If he eats hot dogs every day, I just make sure he has a healthy breakfast and lots if fruit throughout the day to make up for it.

Of course u didn't offend me! My gosh I'm so thankful for the tips! :lmao:I feel like it was an odd Q for me to ask in the 1st place but I am just trying to know. I don't get ALL the info if I call WDW. So I'm so happy everyone on the DIS takes the time to help out when they know the answers. :thumbsup2

lol!!Ur right! I did ask. Ha! I think we should be able to get away w/ keeping whole in the room & having 1% & water in the parks. Someone had said they did that & I agree. He only needs so many oz. of whole per day so that should be fine. NOW I HAVE TO SEE IF THE CBR has FRIDGES. ANYONE KNOW THAT??? LOL!!!

I drink 1% right now so I'm gonna give him some everyday as well as his whole milk. I can't drink whole either but of course, if u knew me you'd know, I don't need the extra fat:scared1:, but he does. :goodvibes

the moderate resorts have in-room fridges - dorm sized
