*Nutella* -- how do you use it?

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but I mix pesto with mashed potatoes and it is really good. I also use it on any type of pasta and in place of tomato sauce on pizzas.

My first thought was pesto and nutella....ewwwww!!!!!

Then realized you meant seperately. :rotfl2:

Hahaha, I thought that too at first. Like when I first read the old sign outside of Earl of Sandwich at DTD. It said "Hot Roast Beef - Smoothies". Except I didn't see the little dash, and I thought "Ewww...who would drink that? At least make the smoothie cold, first!" :rotfl:

Pesto- Pesto pasta salad, mix pesto with mayo to make more creamy, add some red wine vinegar, mix with penne pasta, black olives, peas (I know- sounds weird, but good), diced mozz or jack cheese. Super yummy - kids love it. Also, spread pesto on flatbread (I get from Trader Joes. It is like a thicker softer pita.) top with chicken, feta and sundried tomatoes, and broil. Fold and eat like a taco.

Nutella - on slightly toasted bagels, but usually just a finger swipe will do it for me. Yummy!!!

I always sandwich nutella between homemade sugar coookies, always a big hit. For an easy inexpensive dip, put 8 oz of cream cheese in a nice bowl and top with pesto and serve with crostini. I also make a warm Italian sandwich and pesto really makes it. Brush pesto on loaf of Italian bread, layer roasted red peppers, salami, cappacoli and provolone cheese and heat in 350 oven till cheese is melted.

I started cutting and pasting these ideas to go with my nieces' Christmas present and my curiousity was peaked. So I googled Nutella recipes.

Well I found this website: http://www.nutelladay.com/nutella-recipes/

Wow, two of my favorite items.

Many of my favorite uses have been mentioned (nothing beats Nutella on a waffle in the am!)

However, here are some new ones:

Pesto
Salad dressing- mix pesto into oil and vinegar
Roasted Chicken- Wash and dry a whole chicken well. Loosen the skin from the flesh and rub pesto under the skin. Roast as usual.
Recreation of the Plaza's Veggie sandwich (Magic Kingdom) Italian bread or Focaccia with hummus, cucumber, spinach, mozzarella, tomato, roasted red pepper and pesto!
Homemade pizza with pesto instead of tomato sauce
Grilled steak with pesto
Add a spoonful to homemade vegetable soup

Nutella
Use as a cake filling
Bake sugar cookies and spread with Nutella and make sandwich cookies
Camping Banana Boats- Split a banana but leave in the skin. Top with Nutella and marshmallows. Wrap in foil and roast over coals or in oven until melty.
Giada's cookies!!! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/chocolate-hazelnut-smooches-recipe/index.html
Bobby Flay's Banana Nutella Panini http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/grilled-banana-and-nutella-panini-recipe/index.html

Two of my favorites to make with pesto.

Dice up some red potatoes, place in a ziploc bag. Add a spoonful of pesto and drizzle a little extra olive oil. Then mix it up, dump it into a baking dish and bake.

Slice up some tomatoes, getting rid of extra juices.
Take some biscuits, divide them half, thin them out on a baking sheet and place a slice on each top.
In a bowl, mix a small spoonful of pesto, mozzarella cheese (finely shredded), and some balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Cover each tomato with the mix, and bake for 15 minutes.

Toast slices of a baguette, spread with Nutella, top with slices of fresh strawberries. YUM! Great for breakfast or a snack!:goodvibes

I'm glad this thread got resurrected as these recipe ideas are amazing!

But now I'm hungry and there's no pesto or Nutella in my house... time to go shopping! :woohoo:

shrimp,gnochhi in pesto sauce

I use pesto on chicken, in shrimp recipes, on toasted crusty bread, in pasta salads, chicken and pesto pizzas with Pillsbury pizza dough etc.. My kids like Nutella on toast but I love them in desserts. See my recipes above!

Out of desperation one morning, my sister-in-law and I put Nutella in our coffee (we really wanted Starbucks Mocha's, but didn't have the time for a run). It was pretty good!

DD asked for Nutella...but it is loaded with calories, so I didn't get it.

NUTELLA!!!!!

I was raised on the stuff and now my kids are in love with it. They love the commercials where "Mom" promotes it as a great breakfeast. Sorry, I can't argue with "Mom".

If I could, I'd use an IV, but, I can't so any spoon will do.

Oh...and on crepes or toast with raspberry jam.
Or..."peanut butter cup" sandwiches. Nutella and Peanut Butter! MMM!

...Nutella and Peanut Butter...HMMM...I wonder if 50's PT could make a malt out of that?
:stitch:

I can't add to the pesto ideas, but I will toss in a couple more uses for Nutella:
-- in a smoothie, with frozen banana, greek yogurt, a few pieces of ice
-- dip or spread for Girl Scout Cookie Trefoils!!

Thanks to the OP for sharing that website!

I have some Trefoils in my closet right now...mmmm! Thanks!

My DD's preschool has peanut allergy kids...so peanut butter is not allowed. Since she lives on peanut butter and fluff sandwiches, we do Nutella and Fluff sandwiches instead!

We just started dipping pretzels in Nutella - I'm totally hooked! Tastes just like chocolate covered pretzles and so much easier to make!

I LOVE that someone brought this up...I LOVEEE nutella and pretzels. I also love nutella with pretty much any kind of fruit. :cloud9:

My mom and I discovered that vanilla ice cream with nutella and bananas is YUM. :)
