Nursing in WDW?

I don't think I'd go back there either- but after I asked them what they meant about how I "shouldn't" be nursing a child that age in public like that. And ask them to please verse themselves on the law before talking to guests in that manner.
UGH! I'm sorry you had that happen to you.

They would have been very horrified if they saw me nurse then. Both of my children nursed *way* past 13 months. After all, the current recommendation is an " optimum of two years" then as long as mutually desired. It is a shame people are so ignorant... :( But your baby still needs to eat.

My "baby" that the guy said I shouldn't be nursing in public at 13 months old is still nurseing at nearly 3.5 years old. Not so much in public because she rather check things out and play and stuff, but sometimes it is in public if she falls and hurts herself and just needs some cuddleing and "Mama numnums." :-) So that guy would have a cow now if he saw us. :-)

The best advice I received on these boards last year (when I was worried about nursing in public and not being "discrete" enough with my size H's:rolleyes: ) was that people have far better things to do at WDW than watch a nursing mom and her baby. I nursed on shady benches, rides, hotel lobbies, etc. The only time I went to the baby center was to get out of the rain...and yes it was very nice. I actually wore my maternity T-shirts while I was nursing because they had enough fabric to drape around me and the baby. The only person who seemed at all freaked by the thought of me nursing in public was DH!! He was worried about what other people would think....he got over it after the first day. Practicing at home in front of a mirror is good advice, too, but really, once you and the baby relax and get used to it, than it seems like second nature. Good Luck!

I never had a problem nursing mine in the dark shows and rides, only went to the baby stations a couple of times to change diapers. If people have a problem with nursing they are sick. Have a great trip!!!

I'm very glad to see so many positive comments about nursing in WDW and public places in general. My slant on it has always been that boobs are there for our babys to be nourished by and people who see that as "dirty" and something to be ashamed of & only done in hidden places, and then turn around an oogle a racey billboard or buy a playboy magazine are just warped! But I do try to always be discreet. I liken it to this: if I had a friend who was a recovering alcoholic, I wouldn't guzzle a beer in front of him out of consideration for him. That's not to say that drinking beer is wrong, just that it's nice to be thoughtfull of others and unfortuanately, some people are still emabarrased at the sight of a mother nursing her baby. That said, I nursed my first 2 boys (age 6mo on one trip and the other age 12 mo on another) all over WDW. Like others have said, the dark rides are the best. Often I had strangers sitting right beside me and they never knew! The moving rides, like Spaceship Earth are the best, bc. the motion and nursing combined puts the baby to sleep. Outside of the rides I'd nurse in restaurants (the only FREE meal in WDW!! LOL) and on benches...just about everywhere. I would try to turn my back to the crowd if possible. I could even nurse walking around when the babies were tiny. You see, I had this big, sturdy bellypack that was always full. It was a great support for the baby's weight!
I know that at certain ages the babies don't like to be covered w/ a blanket and agree that this draws more than usual attention from passersby. I found that a not-so-tight shirt works great. I'd just lift it and withmy free hand hold it so that the material was touching the baby's cheek. Usually the baby then would hold onto my hand and I would stroke his cheek with my pinkie. Most people just thought the baby just had his face up to my clothed chest. In fact I had people come up to me, not knowing that I was nursing, and ask to see the baby. I had to TELL them what I was doing!

Best wishes to all nursing moms out there. To new moms: Stick with it! You will be amazed at how good you get at it after a few months.

 ooooh I just read this! How dare he! I would have been spitting mad! I would have asked him if what he was saying was Park Rules (I'm sure NOT) or his own personal hang-up (most likely). And then I'd have had him accompany me to Guest Relations where I would have demanded an apology on the spot! Of course as I picture this scenario, I can see my husband in it, rolling his eyes and saying, "Let it go, hun."

I salute you Tandy for nursing a 3 1/2 year old, been there, done that twice :) One self weaned at 3 1/2, the other would still be nursing at 6 had I not given her the boot, ha ha! They are both happy and healthy, and now people stare at them for other reasons than nursing as big kids, LOL!

Just remembered this funny story:
My firstborn was about 4-5, and was familiar with me breastfeeding his younger brother, when he saw me opening the envelope containing my renewed RN state license. He asked what it was and I said it was my nursing license. He replied, "You need a license to nurse?!?":)

OMG that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time!! Thanks for sharing that story, it has brightened my day!!

You really can nurse anywhere you feel comfortable at WDW. When dd was 6mo, we nursed in the sling pretty much everywhere...walking down Main Street even.

The baby care centers are really great for a cranky, overstimulated baby or toddler to nurse and fall asleep. I think my dd was 2 the first time I used one! Its convenient because you can stay in the park and keep going if they'll sleep in the stroller.

I'll see all you other nursing moms in WDW! I'll be the one pregnant and nursing a 3.5yo...LOL

BTW, the nursing license story was too funny!
