Nursing at the parks. Would a Hooter Hider work?

We're getting ready to hit Disney again in a few weeks. My new little one is 7 weeks and LOVES to eat! But he's not great at keeping me covered up AT ALL! :rolleyes1

A Hooter Hider was recommended to me. But I've never seen anyone use one and don't know where to get one.

Advice?

I don't know where my SIL got one, but she does well with hers. Her dd is over the age of 1 now---and I have gotten flashed when dd decides she is done b/c she starts wiggling out of their like gangbusters.

But I didn't notice any issues until around that time.

Not sure if it is the one you are looking for..but hers has the peekaboo opening at the time. So baby can see her and she can see baby. The way it drapes seems to not "cover" the baby like a blanket. Almost like it is more airy.

I had to read this twice. I thought you were an employee of Hooters and was trying to figure out how to "hide" while breast feeding. :lmao:

This doesn't really answer your question but just wanted to say that we loved the baby care centers in each park for nursing. There are sperate rooms with rockers for you to spread out and relax and tv/video/games in a lounge for anyone you bring along to wait. I think my DH and the older kids actually missed the relaxed down time that the BCC provided after the babies got too old for it.

Check out the Baby Care Center - it's not just for changing diapers...:thumbsup2

Since you added a rolling eyes smilie, I am assuming you are not 100% comfortable with a cover up. (of course you know what they say about those who assume)

So, if this is the case, my advice would be do what is comfortable for you and your baby. If you are uncomfortable nursing in the parks, then research cover ups. But if you are comfortable nursing and you are not just letting everything hang out, I wouldn't worry too much about occasional flashes.

Do what is best for you and your baby, not what is best for a minority of park goers.

I have never nursed at Disney but have nursed at other tourist venues and something like a hooter hider would work well. I am cheap and didn't want to pay the price for a hooter hider so I googled how to make one and went to my local craft store and made one in about 20 minutes for about $4. My DD always did great with it. We nursed everywhere. It also helped her nap while she ate because the hider shaded her a little and kept her out of the middle of the action.

Here is a link to the instructions I used:

I'd say that was really funny but a co-worker came back from a lunch at Hooters last week, totally grossed out. Evidently his waitress was really pregnant. :rotfl:

Oh my gosh! I would've loved to see his face :rotfl:. Although according to DH some men (not my dh though) find that sexy. :lmao:

this is actually really good advice, i never thought about that. i'll have to remember it in the future!

OP, if you don't like covering up you could definatly go there, i don't think anyone would mind while you're in there.

It was so, so hysterical. This is a young guy who probably wasn't equating pregnant with sexy (more like pregnant=his life is over;) )

He went and googled it to see if it was illegal to work at Hooters while visibly pregnant. He was outraged!

It was awesome! Best day at work, evah!

That's too funny!

A bit ancient in opinion--but too funny.
Wonder what his reaction was to find out she could not be prohibited from working?

I have seen a pregnant Hooter's waitress. She was wearing a t-shirt saying "I'm not fat just pregnant"!:rotfl2:
Okay, back to your topic, OP. I used a smock type nursing cover for ds, because I wasn't that comfortable NIP. With dd, I was fine. I was a pro and could feed her without any nip-slips! Like PPs have said, check out the babycare centers. They are a nice place to relax and cool off.

OP I sent you a PM :)

I never actually used mine, but I tried it on when I got it and it seemed like it would work great!

I bought one on eBay from this seller...

http://stores.ebay.com/JOANNA-DESIGN-baby-boutique

Quick shipping, cute fabrics, and I love the design. The key to any cover, IMO, is the "boning" at the top that bows it out so it stays off the baby's but still gives you some privacy.

We went in December with a nursing baby, and I used mine all the time. I really liked the convenience of the baby centers...a nice clean place to do a diaper change, and then while Daddy and big sister went to a ride, we would take a little break in the nursing room. They're dimly lit, rocking chairs, and air conditioned! AK and DS actually have private rooms.

There are also of great little benches and sitting areas "off the beaten path" around the parks where I felt comfortable feeding her with the cover. Finding a place I felt comfortable nursing was never a problem, and I think I try to be discreet.

have a great trip!

OK, I just looked up Hooter Hiders. The name is hilarious.

I did breastfeed both of mine at Disney. I used the baby care centers when they were close by, but otherwise I would find a more secluded bench or area to nurse. (In Liberty Square in the MK there is a semi-circular porch that I believe faces away from the main thoroughfare that has rocker chairs. That was always a favorite.)

Not sure when you are going, but I looks to me like the Hooter Hider could be HOT in there for baby. They always are anyway when they nurse. I always brought a very light receiving blanked and draped it loosely over him/her.

Have fun on your trip!

I bought a couple knock-offs from ebay, and they worked great!! I am a very modest person, and believe me, you can nurse anywhere with those covers and nobody even realizes what you are doing! I've used my HH cover at WDW, at the mall, you name it!! When DS was an infant I was sitting on a bench at the mall nursing him under the HH, and an elderly woman sat next to me and we were chatting, etc. When we was done, and I pulled him out from under there, she was shocked and didn't even realize I had a baby on my lap the whole time. LOL!

Now at WDW, when I could, I would go to the baby care center, only b/c it's airconditioned and they have rocking chairs, etc, so it is a lot more comfortable than just sitting on a bench out in the sun.

Good luck!!!

I will utilize the baby stations if I'm near them. But with 3 older kids I don't want to leave the area we're in every single time he needs to nurse.

I use a blanket now but trying to keep the blanket in place and get him latched on is challenging. And he also pops off and on quite a bit. I have no problem nursing him in public as long as I'm covered up. My girls ( 11 and 15 ) would be completely horrified if anyone saw my ****ies. :lmao:
