My DH and I only have two kids so this doesn't really affect us. However when I told my DH that they had a limit of four people per room in deluxe resorts (unless the fifth is an infant) he called BS. He says Disney wouldn't do that to a family with three kids. So can the great Dis Boarders solve our debate. What are the deluxe limits and are they inforced?

Most of the deluxes - GF, Poly, CR, BC/YC, BWI rooms do accomodate 5. The regular rooms at AKL and WL do not but they have special deluxe rooms that do. Also, if the third child is under three they don't count at the moderate or value resorts as being over the limit. ASMu is just now opening up family suites that will sleep up to 6, as to the Ft. WIlderness cabins.

Regarding enforcement, Disney mostly relies on the integrity of its guests to comply with capacity limits. That may change if there are a lot of transgressors.

Her husband is perhaps correct, but perhaps wrong. :)

All the deluxes will accomodate 5 people in one way or another, so I say that makes him right. ;)

Now, if you really want to discuss why Disney does things, lets talk about the moderate resorts and why only POR allows 5 people despite CBR having slightly bigger rooms. But, that's a whole different thread. :scratchin

Why is he wrong - most deluxes do sleep 5.

Can't agree with you more Allison - still trying to figure out the logic of the POR can sleep 5, but CBR can't.

Why is he wrong
Because she said, "He says Disney wouldn't do that to a family with three kids." -- Disney does do that, at the moderates.

A child under 3 doesn't count in any room limit. I've been to the Poly 3 times with a party of 6-5 plus 1 under 3.

As far as enforcement goes, the poster who said Disney mostly relied on guests' integrity is partially correct; the other factor that comes into play is having a resort ID for all guests. If the room occupants wish to participate in EMH, and especially if they would like to use the meal plan, all guests must have their own resort ID.

Yes we are staying one room at the Poly and we have 4 children! (the youngest is a baby and they don't count him) so the room limit is technically 5 at the Poly but they don't count under 2's as people(funny because they turn into adults at 9) We were told we could stay at the Poly, GF, CR, BC,YC. Or go with a DVC villa. (I think the Fort Wilderness cabins also sleep 5) Oh and as for Disney relying on the integretity of their guests to be honest.......um not true! If you have ever stayed there before you are in their database and they know everyones ages- even yours!!.-assuming the first time you went you told the truth so actually I guess you could weave a looooong web of lies if you thought about it the first time you went to Disney.

For DVC resorts, at least, there is a limit of one child under 3. After that, the children under 3 count towards the regular room capacity limit. I believe that's the case at all Disney resorts.

If you have ever stayed there before you are in their database and they know everyones ages- even yours!!
I haven't read one report of Disney using this information to force a guest to admit that a young child is no longer under age 3, or 10, or 18, and pay the applicable higher fee. They expect their guests to conduct themselves with integrity. When they can no longer reasonably expect that, they either put in place specific enforcement, or raise the rates for the rest of us to make up for the grift.

When registering on the Swan/Dophin website, it only asks the number of adults in the room. The rooms are bigger; they could fit an air mattress on the floor. I will call to see what their policy is.

But I wouldn't be able to use the Extra Hours at the parks - is that true?

No, it is not true. You certainly can use EMH as a guest of the Swan. You can also have park purchases sent to your resort. :thumbsup2

What you cannot do is--use ME, get the Dining plan, get Mickey soaps (the ones at the S/D are much better), get a Mickey wake-up call, charge to your room key in the parks, and have the staff transport your luggage to another Disney resort--that is hit-or-miss. Some people have had it happen; others haven't.

The S/D will also allow 5 people to a room. There is an extra charge only for more than 2 people over the age of 18. A former DIS-boader with 3 small children used to stay at the Swan, with all 3 of her daughters in the queen sized bed and said it worked out beautifully. The "Under 3 yoa" rule doesn't apply here.

Perhaps, at some point we will see Disney change all the moderates to the ability to sleep 5, just like POR-AB can do now. All they have to do is add that trundle bed...not a huge deal. And don't forget there has been all that talk about the value suites...those would fit the need of larger families also. It's really too bad that families with more than 2 children are forced to either pay more for one deluxe room or to book two value rooms (or moderates).

???I've been out of town...did I miss this?
I took the question as asking whether the OP could have more folks in the room than they report on the hotel registration, and still have them all take advantage of EMH. The answer is no, they cannot do that.

To the best of my knowledge, those staying at S/D do get to use the EMH feature, as long as they have a room key in their name...same as any WDW resort person. If you are going to have more people in the room than they know about, then that person will not have a room key and won't be able to participate in EMHs.

Another important factor of being a "legally registered" guest is many of the pool areas will require you to show resort ID to be able to enjoy the pool.
