So yesterday I woke up and thought that I had slept on my hand (left) as my 2 smallest fingers, pinkie and ring, were numb.

I come to realize that it is still this way today. No feeling at all. Constant pins and needles.

Anyone?

Do you use that hand a lot? For typing or something?

I had that, turned out to be carpel tunnel.
Had to wear a wrist band thingie for a while.

I told everyone I got in a fight. ;)

Actually on that side of the hand (pinkie and ring finger) it would be Cubital Tunnel Syndrome (Carpal Tunnel effects the other side of the hand - thumb, fore and middle fingers).

It's from pressure on the ulnar nerve near the elbow. If you've been resting your elbow on a desk or table that can cause the numbness.

There are braces you can use to help.

There's some information here: http://www.eatonhand.com/hw/hw007.htm

I am right handed, but do use the key board for work, so type a lot.

I am supposed to go for an EMG to rule out Carpal Tunnel. I should make that appointment shouldn't I..:rolleyes1 ...I see my neurologist in Nov, so I definitely have to go before then.

Then is just new to me, so was wondering. I think it may be part of my problem, but not sure.

Thanks.

Cubital/Carpal, let's call the whole thing off!;)

That was very informative. Thank you very much.

You're very welcome!

Just know that if you have either cubital or carpal tunnel syndrome (I have carpal tunnel) it takes a long time for swelling in the nerves to heal from compression/injury. If you find a brace to wear (and almost all pharmacies carry something nowadays) wear it as often as you can for about 3 weeks, then try just wearing it at night for awhile. You might find your symptoms are relieved enough to not cause major problems and avoid surgery for a little while longer.

sometimes this happens to me.
I head off to my chiropractor & after several sessions it clears up. something about somethign being pinched under the shoulder blade in my back. my back really doesn't hurt, but it has knots & stuff the chiropractor can feel & manipulate. you also have to do stretches & stuff.

iI would really suggest you trying a chiropractor :thumbsup2

My MIL complains of this. They told her it was arthritis. I hope it's not the case for you:goodvibes

I have a wrist splint. It really helps! Just get one in CVS or WalMart. And try them on before buying it. I have no idea how this pooped up myself. Maybe it's from holding the baby or a pinched nerve due to my pelvis seperation :confused3

I have a referral for an MRI in my purse for the past 3 weeks :rotfl: I'll get there,too:rolleyes1

I started a Carpal Tunnel Syndrome thread because I didn't want to hijack this thread with my question. I have been invited by the OP to post my question here for more info.

Anyone have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Surgery...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...and have complete relief, only to have it come back in a few years?

I had the surgery on both hands in 2002. Lately I have noticed it coming back..the tingling, slight pain (not nearly as bad as before)..has anyone had to have the surgery AGAIN??

I seem to remember my hand surgeon saying I may have to have it done again, although I can't remember what I had for lunch today let alone a conversation from 6 years ago.

I have always said that the relief I felt after the surgery was so remarkable, and the surgery so minimal (to me) that I would have it done every year if I needed. I didn't really mean that literally!

My sister in law had that happen on occasion, turned out she had Lymes Disease. Just a thought.

I had the surgery on my right hand about 4 years ago. And I totally agree with you that the relief is remarkable and so worth it!

I haven't gotten it back necessarily...but I believe I have lost some strength in that hand. It gets tired more easily and it does cramp sometimes but I don't get the numbness or tingling.

Can I ask whether you had the open or endoscopic surgery? That might be the difference.

At times I have weird pins and needles sensations in fingers or sometimes even tip of nose and teeth (really you can feel this in your teeth--it is very disconcerting). It used to happen frequently. I was fanally diagnosed with Pernicious Anmeia. My B-12 levels are back up and I am mostly fine but the pins and needles sitll come once in a while (they have tested for pretty much EVERY otehr reason it oculd be and seem quite confident that it is lingering nerve damage from the anemia and I think as it got better with the B-12 they are correct). I mention this as I THINK it was you who posted about having pernicious anemia once (sorry if I am confusing you with someone else).

I honestly don't know! I had a one inch incision vertically on my lower hands-that doesn't sound like endoscopy, does it?

Nope, sure doesn't!

My neurosurgeon felt that the endoscopic procedure hadn't been around long enough to be sure it would last (he retired about 6 months after my surgery so he was probably set in his ways a bit).

I have heard of people who have had to have the surgery again, it's not unheard of but I think it's pretty rare.

Yes, I am the one, hon...That is what I meant by it possibly tying in with my other health issues. I have Sjrogens's as well as PA, and this is a new symptom, but I think it is tying in with that.

Thanks for remembering me :goodvibes I see my hematologist in Sept, so will find out what the next step is, and if the injections are helping..

I've also had pernicious anemia, as well as a chronic auto-immune disease that caused numbness and tingling. If the tingling spreads to the other hand or to your feet, get to a doctor FAST.

I'd still have my B12 levels checked. Get a shot of B12 if possible. Letting the tingling/numbness sit too long can cause permanent nerve damage (no feeling in the tips of my big toes).

Don't mean to scare you, but my experience was so awful, that I just want everyone to be aware if there is even the remotest chance of them having it.

Ditto! Happens to me every so often. Usually gone with one trip to the chiro. and costs a lot less time and money.
