For the last month or so an 866 number has been calling my phone multiple times a week- sometimes two or three times in one day. They normally call when I don't have my ringer on and don't leave a voicemail. The few times I've been able to answer they hang up. I finally got fed up and called the number back, knowing it might not work. I received an automated message, "The next representative will be with you shortly" followed by a couple of rings. Somebody picked up the phone and I could hear voices in the background, but then the phone was disconnected. This happened twice.
I Googled the number and discovered that I am not the only one who has been on the receiving end of these calls. Finally, I called Sprint (my provider), explained the situation and asked if they could block the number. They said they couldn't, so but advised me to call the number back and press "0" to talk to an operator. I did, and finally got through to somebody.
The peon on the other line was a nightmare. Turns out its some company that calls people who rent DVDs from a specific place. They had called me back in July about a DVD I misplaced (which was paid for back in July and has not been an issue since. I still rent from there). Somehow, they started calling me again this month, and the idiot had the gall to tell me that they only called me on time. I told him that it has been much more than one time and I am prepared to go to the police. He made some asinine comment about how I should have called them before this. I explained about how it hung up when I answered, and what happened last night when I called the number back and was hung up on twice. He told me that nobody would do that.
I wanted to ask him how he thought I got this number and if he was calling me a liar. I refrained, but did tell him I will mail them my phone records showing the calls if they wanted. I finally asked to speak to a manager and the yahoo told me they weren't going to do anything different.
I finally got the manager on the line and got it sorted out. She was able to see that they did indeed call me many times this month, but couldn't explain why they were hanging up. She did promise to block my number in the system. I told her about Googling their number and how many people have had this problem and they may have a software glitch. I'm happy that she was very cordial and it got resolved, but I'm beyond ticked at the idiot beforehand. When a customer asks to speak with a manager, you don't argue with them. I just couldn't believe this man's audacity, he treated me like I was laying to him. Why on earth would anybody make something like that up and spend their time talking to such a rude jerk? I've got better things to do.
Okay, rant over. Thanks for listening(reading).
