get the time off from work?

I noticed that several people said they took on an extra part-time job and use that money for trips to WDW exclusively..

Many of you go numerous times throughout the year..

So - how do you get the time off?

Seems that an awful lot of people still only get one week's vacation - and then you would also have to take time off from the second job..

Just curious..;)

For me it's quite simple....I just let both jobs know WELL in advance of my vacation plans, ask for the time off and just go from there. I've NEVER received vacation pay on any job I've worked for the simple reason I don't maintain the hours needed to do so. I'm okay with that being that I'm a server and can make the money I missed for a weeks worth in no time.
I only work two days a week now serving, as my job at the zoo is my REAL job now. :teeth:  So after I catch up bills and get the income rolling again from the vacation DH and I took all tips will go back into my savings job for my next adventure in 2005. I don't what that will be, but maybe that money can be used for our trip in 2006!! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I get so many days off I can't begin to use them all. I start with 25 days per year. Plus, I've got carryover. This year, I'm at 33 days.

Wish I could "ebay" them........:(

I'm with C.Ann!! Aside from the $$ it costs to go, don't you have any other things that you need to do with vacation time?

My DH gets 4 weeks vacation plus 5 personal days. We ALWAYS take a one-week vacation in August with my family. Plus he usually takes a spring week and a fall week to catch up on stuff around the house. He takes one other week for either WDW or another family vacation (just the 4 of us). And then he spreads his personal days out for things like the day after Thanksgiving, the day after Christmas, one or two golf tournaments he likes to participate in, the days around Memorial day or Fourth of July. He gets very few "holidays"..... Christmas day, New Years day, Thanksgiving day, Memorial day, and 4th of July are about the only ones that come to mind. He never gets things like Patriot's day (Mass. holiday mostly), Veterans day, Columbus day, Presidents day. I guess we could give up one of our "around the house" vacations, but then NOTHING would ever get done, we would have to pay someone to come in and do things like build our new deck, and then we wouldn't have the $$ for WDW any how!! .............................P::yes::

Being in the military we get 30 days per year. But if you do not take the thirty day, your leave balance carries over into the next fiscal year. So instead of thirty days, if you take only ten days in the previous year the other twenty days carry over. I always have plenty of days. If we go over say 90 days of leave, our command makes our leave manditory to take, so that we won't lose any of it. This is how we are able to spend two weeks in WDW each year. DH get's two weeks automatically each year, plus his carry over from the previous.

That's what Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings are for!! My DH NEVER takes a vacation day to do stuff around the house....that is to be saved for trips :) Disney and otherwise. He used to go in REALLY early (3:30/4:00 am) and come home around 2 or 3:00, so he used to do lots in the afternoons, but he can't do that anymore. Now we spend more weekend time doing chores/home improvement, but now that it's light later, he can do more in the evenings (if he's here  He's going to be gone alot through the spring and summer, so I've had to hire a neighborhood kid to cut the grass....and hire out the pressure washing of the house....and maybe the door/shutter paint job, too....for me, the time with my husband is worth more than the $$ I have to pay for the help....but if he's home regularly, he does those types of chores...)

We get 30 days per year plus some federal holidays (I say some because my DH usually doesn't get them like the rest of the military). If we're gone over a weekend, it counts against us, too, so it's equal to about 4 weeks for your average Mon-Fri type job. We don't have anything regulary scheduled, just because he's never had a job that allows anything approaching planning ahead. We plan to go when we "think" he'll be home, and hope for the best, but often have to change dates. His family just took their first vacation together in December (to Disney! planned by me for 20 people!! paid for by the grandparents...) and they enjoyed it LOTS, so it's looking like we may start to have a family vacation every year...but we don't know if we'll always be able to go.

Wow! Some pretty impressive vacation times here..

Any job I ever held had only 1 week of vacation.. My DD gets 5 weeks of vacation (and quite a bit of sick/personal time) BUT her DH only gets ONE week of vacation and because he's not crazy about WDW, he wants to spend it at the lake..

DH gets five weeks vacation a year so we go to disney for at least a week. Its his favorite place to veg out as he says. He uses his brain alot at work so at disney it gets to go completely mushy.

I book my 2 weeks and then tack on a couple sick days and viola my 3 weeks are done.

For me it's easy. I'm a teacher so I get the same holidays as the kids. However that does mean we can only usually go during expensive times as flight prices really go up during school holidays!

I knew someone would say that...:p .........DH is a salaried employee with UPS management. He has an hour commute each way and works an average of 10 hours a day.... you can do the math and figure out how many hours M-F he has available for "around the house" stuff!!! And while we try to get most of it done on the weekends, there is only so much time in a day!! And as black-fly season approaches here, we will be getting even less outdoor stuff done, at least until the beginning/middle of June! We have a LARGE yard that takes a few hours to mow, as well as many/large flower beds that time some time to keep up (although I usually take care of them). DH has always planted a VERY LARGE vegetable garden (90 tomatoes, 40 broccoli, etc), but I think I have him talked out of it this year. It just takes up TOO MUCH TIME!! And by July it is so hot that nobody feels like weeding! Plus DH bought me a hot tub for my birthday and now we have to build a deck for it! SO I have tried to convince him that there will be no time for a garden this year! And our summer weekends are usually consumed with yard up keep/ church yard upkeep/church/ family committments.....etc.

So we really need our "around the house" vacation time!......P

DH gets 2 weeks paid, but can take weeks over that if he wants to.

We are taking the 2 weeks this year, one to Door County and one to WDW. He does take an odd day here or there for a long weekend once in a while.

If you could "ebay" them, I would make sure I was the highest bidder!!! ::yes::

I get 3 weeks & 5 sick days a year. I am "allowed" to use 3 of those 5 sick days for family sick leave (DS's doctor appt's or if he is sick). I always seem to use vacation time when he is sick - he's sick more than 3 days a year!!

We accrue vacation days each month. I wish we would just get them all in January so I would have them all up front and decide how to spend them!:teeth:
