Now that we can modify reservations online...

...has anyone tried to add a discount or free dining using this feature of MDE? I was looking at this earlier today and it seems to me that there may be an option to do this if there was an offer in effect for our stay this fall. Just wondering if anyone has tried this for more recent trips and offers.

I was just able to do this yesterday. I had booked CBR package with 8 day park hoppers, dining plan and memory maker. I had called when the Summer Discount first came out, but there were no rooms available for our party of 5 with the discount at CBR or POR. I've been checking pretty regularly, and yesterday a standard room at CBR came up as available with the discount. I just clicked the modify reservation, and it applied the discount to my already existing reservation. It kept the same confirmation number and everything, just applied the discount to the room.

It was so easy that I was afraid that I might have done something wrong, so I called to have them confirm everything. The CM verified that the discount was applied and that everything else had stayed the same. Hope that helps.

How can I modify mine? I just see a cancel option in my reservation.

Log into My Disney Experience, and click on my reservations and tickets. Under the confirmation number is "modify reservation." Click on that, and then it will bring you to the Change Reservation page. From there it will list the things that you can change. There is a "Change" that you can click for Vacation Offer, Resort, Room Type, Theme Park Tickets, and Dining Plan. Everything else is says to call to change. Click on what you'd like to change.

We actually switched resorts yesterday using this feature also. We got the summer discount after changing from POFQ to Pop...saved another $500 (yay, more souvenirs).

Thanks for the answer, but in my case, the "modify reservation" option doesn't appear. Instead I get "cancel my reservation" only. Anyone with the same problem?

Interesting. I wonder if I can go ahead and book a November room now and add a free dining offer if/when it pops up between now and the trip.

The second question is whether I should go ahead and add the dining plan now and assume it'll credit me for it later, or leave it off completely and hope it'll let me add it on.

Yes - not all reservations can be modified online.
When calling in to Disney, the greeting message indicates that not all bookings showing on MDE can be modified online; some need to be handled by a CSR. If booked through a TA, the "cancel" option will not display, either.

My BB reservation only shows a "cancel" option.

I am wondering what are the reasons for that. Maybe it is because I am from an overseas country. If that is the reason, it should be the oposite as it's much easier for us, who live overseas, to modify it online than by an international call.

I live in the States and cannot modify online.

Thank you. This was exactly what I was wondering. If/when free dining comes up for my dates this fall, I'll try and add it online.

The "patchiness" of whose reservations can be modified online and whose cannot is interesting, and I'm sure, frustrating for many. I wonder if it matters if you booked online, by phone, etc, or if it's a room-only vs package thing. I booked online and I have the "modify" and "cancel" options available. I'm also out of the US, being in Canada.

Just one more question, when this option was introduced?

Not very long. I first noticed when checking my reservation (after reading one poster on the Dis about how Disney cancelled their reservation without notice) about 2 or 3 weeks ago?

One thing about the WDW site that I've learned is that nothing really surprises me any more.

You might be on to something.

If you make flight reservations on southwest. com, you can change or cancel online. However, if you call in to book or modify, and an agent "touches" your reservation, you are prevented from making any further changes or canceling online; you are "locked out" and need to call Southwest for assistance.

None of my Disney resort reservations offer the modify option in MDE. One booking was a BB, booked with an agent; the others were through TAs.

I agree. That is an interesting observation. I booked my package online initially, and was able to modify it online. I only noticed it showing up recently, like the past week or 2. Before that it said call to make changes to this reservation.

When I go on my MDE and click on reservations it has room and packages and then my reservation at CBR and then my dining reservations. nothing that says cancel or modify at all.

So how are you able to do this? Do you just search and find what you want then go in to modify it? Or to you say you want to modify it and then search to wait new rooms are available? Thanks

Had no idea this was an option. Thanks for the tip. Was able to see that there is no possibility of changing our view on a June trip. Now I can quit wondering.

I think that you can do it either way. For me, I kept checking to see if any rooms became available with the summer discount. It took weeks of checking, but once I found what I wanted, I logged into MDE and then modified the reservation.

Keep checking. For weeks the summer discount wasn't available for our dates. I kept checking, and it eventually became available, so I modified the reservation then.

You booked a package online at Disney's site, and then were able to modify it to a room only reservation? I'm very surprised (and glad)! If so: Is your cancel date 5 days prior (as room only), or still 45 as package? I guess you might still have a package - using the Summer RO discount and then make it into a package by buying tix and DDP (I never do packages so not sure if that's possible - turn RO discount reservation into a package).
