Now Patty Duke has died

I'm actually watching season 2 (1964-1965) of the Patty Duke Show currently. I was too young when it originally aired and I haven't seen the reruns in 40 years. I'm a big fan of The Miracle Worker and of course, Valley of the Dolls is a camp hoot. RIP, Anna!

Patty Duke was great as Neely O'Hara in the camp classic Valley of the Dolls. RIP.

105 episodes. The magic number for a TV show to work in reruns (syndication) is 100 episodes.

Back in the old days 3 seasons was enough to make that magic 100 number. Now I doubt if any prime time show has more than 25 episodes a season. Or they have two shorter 10-12 episode "seasons" per year.

I live in the same town as Patty Duke and her family. They used to bring their dogs (multiple dogs! LOL) to the vet where I worked. She and her husband, Michael, came in about a month after I first started working there and picked up all the dogs after boarding them, and told me to put the bill on their tab. I didn't know who they were (they have a different last name) and told them they needed to wait while I made sure that was ok, as we didn't normally allow people to run a tab. I went back and asked my manager and she looked at me like I was nuts. "Don't you know who that is?" she asked me incredulously. When they told me I very shamefaced went back and assured them it was fine - Michael looked at me with such humor in his eyes... he was so nice! Patty Duke was really before my time so I didn't really know who it was even after they told me... but when I went home and told my mom she had a fit. She absolutely loved Patty Duke growing up and credits her with bringing so much attention (in a positive manner) to how having a narcissistic parent can shape your child- and adulthood. One of the best days of my life is when I was able to introduce my mom to her. This community is really going to miss her.

RIP Anna (Patty) - I also had no idea Sean Austin was her son. I like him too :)

Actually, I think the 100 episode rule may only apply to newer shows. My Mother The Car is in reruns, and they only made 30 episodes.

As a kid would love to watch her reruns on the UHF Station, I might have watched a few of them when they were new but my best memories were of the reruns. Every day it seems a part of my childhood goes away

I remember there being rumors and speculation at the time that Sean Astin's father was Desi Arnaz, Jr. Apparently Patty was sleeping with 3 different guys during that time: Desi Arnaz, Jr, John Astin, and the real father, whose name I can't recall and who was married to Patty for something like 3 weeks.

The classic Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason was another. It was only one season as a half-hour sitcom.

Seemed too creepy for me. The only way they could be identical cousins is if their parents were brother and sister.
Yes, Patty and Cathy's fathers were identical twin brothers! They were one pair of matching bookends. Different as night and day! A fabulous show and a perfect time capsule of the early '60s!

A very good actress, a troubled life, way to young to die. Online says she died from sepsis due to ruptured intestine.
Is this becoming common, a ruptured intestine? I know 3 people in the last year that this happened to them. Luckily they did not die, but they were very sick.

it happened to my dad.
he had a twist in the intestines and it ruptured.

39 episodes.

Of course, as a local TV News Producer, I've Produced between 6,500 and 7,000 shows in the last 36 years, but NONE of them has been rerun.

Awwww. :( My mom loves the Patty Duke show. She told me about it after Disney started showing Liv and Maddie. Patty Duke even guest starred on Liv and Maddie once. Playing twins of course. She was the girls grandma and great aunt. I love that episode.

I had a twisted intestine and had to have emergency surgery back in August. Sepsis and ischemia were the two things the Drs were most concerned about.

Wow, scary. Do you have to do anything different now?
