Now Approaching... Sleepingbooty's Sept. PTR (We're BAAACK! 9/26)

Coming out of lurkdom!

That last photo is gorgeous.

A lot more of my friends are getting into photography and buying SLRs and DSLRs. Most expensive hobby ever! I don't think I would ever get into it for the simple fact that I just can't afford it.

But some of the pictures that come out of those cameras are simply gorgeous. We love going to the beach or the park and taking photoshoots.

 and :welcome: and Thank you!:goodvibes

I know, why is is so expensive?! It really wasn't back in the pre-digital days - although, I guess I spent a lot on film and paper. I don't see myself buying any new equipment for a while. I'm combing Craigslist for used deals.

That's funny this topic came up. I've been hanging onto several special bars of soap for a few years here, and now that we're leaving for sure in 4 months, I've been opening them up and savoring them for some very much needed stress relief. I really, really enjoy my bath times, and believe it or not, take my planning worksheets in there and dream and plan my little heart out with Lavendar or Rose. LOVE IT!!

Here's something I've always wondered: Do you pronouce it BO - kay or BO - kuh? I think its a Japanese word and I probably mispronounce it!

What's funny is that I didn't know how to use all the settings on my Point and Shoot either! It was just really confusing! This is actually much easier, believe it or not.:thumbsup2

The second way you have: Bo-KUH is how I say it, although many people will say it's Bo-KEH, but I find that harder to say. Most people I run into say it with the KUH sound. HTH!

Mmm, lavender and rose - very old fashioned! I love old fashioned scents. Honeysuckle, gardenia, lilac... The H2O shampoo and conditioner that they put in the bathrooms at WDW smell like lilac - I've been saving them, too!

If it IS Japanese, the correct way to pronounce it would be bo-kay.

I LOVE my point and shoot film camera. But digi-cams are just so much more convenient now. So much easier to share my photos with people and is just cheaper.

But I still stand by my film camera. I love the anticipation of waiting to see my photos after I get it developed and having those hard copies in my hand. I know people say you can print out digital photos too, but I find that most people don't. They usually print out maybe one or two to frame, but the majority is left as digital copies.

I love having photo albums and bringing them around to show everyone :thumbsup2

Boy, I sure got OT there, didn't I?

Congratulations on your new toy!!! (watch for a report on PTR upcoming...:rolleyes1) Your shots are fantastic!

I know if you are a GG you can apply discounts to all rooms under your GG...not sure how it works for parties traveling together but are shy of GG numbers. It will be interesting to hear what your TA says! Oh, WL would be oh so tempting! I would LOVE  to switch there. I would argue really hard to be able to stay there if a 4/3 deal came out. We would be slightly higher than the numbers you posted because we have three adults in the room (added cost). I cannot remember how much it is but even if it is another 200 it would still put it cheaper than what we are paying at POR.

Yeah, right? That's why I'm always confused. It looks like a Japanese word to me, so I want to say BO-kay, but I hear people say bo-kuh, so who knows?:confused3

No, I know what you mean. 90% of my pictures are stuck on my computer, rather than printed out. I was into scrapbooking for a while, but I just couldn't keep up with it. I'm trying to go digital on that, too!

I know, WL is so tempting! The 4/3 deal there would be fantastic. A 3rd adult is $15 per night, plus the cost of their dining plan and tickets (or should I say, if you are comparing the cost to what I posted our cost would be - the difference between what an adult pays and what a child pays). Too much for me to figure out right here! But I have a feeling it'll be FD, not the 4/3, unfortunately.

I new on the boards and jumping in, catching up on your PTR. We'll be visiting in September, too, so I'm enjoying all your planning!

I'm really thankful I can learn and follow along :)

Hi Sarah! :welcome:

I see you are staying at Beach Club Villas? That sounds awesome! When are you guys going?

Ohhh, digital scrapbooking, how interesting. I've only started to get into scrapbooking myself

I've made a couple on http://www.shutterfly.com/photo-books . I think you actually end up spending less money, by the time you figure in buying a book, prints, papers, stickers, embellishments, etc. I've also done one of the Disney Photopass books. Other photosites give you more flexibility, but I wanted to be able to use the Disney backgrounds and my photopass pics.

Chapter 23. Should I?

Well, I've neglected my thread (and everyone else's ) for the past week. Sometimes life gets in the way. Things need to get done, decisions need to be made. I had a really nice conversation with my travel agent last week. She was able to apply my pin code to both mine and my parents reservations with no problem. We stuck with CBR - no fuzzy math, no upgrading at this time :sad1:

I love talking to my travel agent because she is so enthusiastic about what she does. I can tell she has a real love for Disney, and being in the business of selling Disney hasn't dampened it. After I got off the phone with her, I thought for a long time.

I bet many of us have thought about it, at least fleetingly. What if I were to become a Disney travel agent? We're all self proclaimed WDW experts, aren't we?;) Certainly among our friends and families, we are all probably the "go - to" person for advice on Disney vacations, right? So why not do it for a living?

I'd had the notion briefly in the past, then brushed it aside. I'm not sure why. Now it's popping up again. I've been doing a lot of research into what it would take. In fact, that's what I've been doing all week - and why I haven't been here on the Dis. Sorry!

If you've been with me from the beginning, you probably remember that I'm a former art teacher, and I currently work part time, subbing at my daughters' school, and teaching after school art classes. Since Lucy started kindergarten this past fall, I've sort of been in career limbo. I wasn't sure if I wanted to look for a teaching job and go back to work full time, or go to graduate school (for what? I'm not sure), or look for a different type of job entirely. So, that's why I've been subbing. Just a nice little fill in until I figure out what I want to do.

There's a very good possibility that an art position will open up at my daughters' school in 2011. My current plan, if you can really call it that, is to continue to sub and teach the drawing classes until that happens. Of course, there is certainly no guarantee that I'm a shoe-in for the job, but I'd hope to have a decent shot. If I don't get it, then what? Keep subbing indefinitely? Its certainly nice to be able to make my own schedule, but the money isn't great. Apply at other schools? Not sure I want to do that.

In my current plan, I've always had a little caveat: "Unless something more interesting comes along." Could this be it? There really isn't very much money in the travel business. But I would really love the work. I imagine it would take a long time to build up the clientele, though. Would I be able to justify the costs in the meantime? I could certainly still continue to substitute teach. In fact, I could probably have a full time teaching job and be a travel planner on the side. I have a feeling a lot of the work would be done at 6 in the morning anyway!

So there you have it, my current dilemma in a nutshell. Do you ever feel like you are being led in a certain direction? I would be taking a risk, I suppose - but life is full of risks. Any thoughts?

Next chapter: Ch. 24 Fortune Cookies

Wow!! Scary to think about taking a risk-- honestly, I would probably hold tight subbing, see if the art teacher position opens up, and if it doesn't, then think about being a travel agent. Do you hope to get hired by Disney directly? Or start your own business? Working somewhere like Liberty Travel (our mall agency). There's SO much to think about!! There's no harm sending your resume out to Disney/companies! I hope this works out for you!! :thumbsup2

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!! I sincerely do!!! I am in that "same place".

After we leave, our lives have a big, fat, giant question mark! And it's really not a WHO will I be, but what will I do.

I have toyed with all of your ideas too, but not the TA part. I've consided going back to school, finding something new to do, all that. Frankly, we are moving back at a really crappy time as far as the job market goes. And it's a little scary that it may take DH a long time to find work that will pay the bills. So any plans I have to go back to school won't be happening until he can find work.

Anway, I don't even know where I was going with that blabber, but just to say that I know all about your soul-searching and longing for "something new".

I'd say if you feel drawn to do the Disney TA thing- go for it. You have the passion, and the skills and the time, so why not?? :thumbsup2

I know - I typically am pretty risk averse! What I am considering is becoming an agent with a travel company that specializes in Disney. I would essentially be independent, working out of my home. So, I would continue to substitute at the same time. And, assuming the art teacher position opens up (and I get it), I could keep doing the travel business part time. If I don't get it, then at least I'd still have my travel business. So that's sorta the scenario I'm picturing right now.

It's hard to be in limbo like that, isn't it? I've always been very future oriented - I like to have a plan. So it was pretty stressful for me when Lucy started school and I didn't really have one. I've tried to take a step back from that and give myself permission to just live in the present, and let the future reveal itself as it happens - BUT ITS HARD! I think I've managed to do okay with it through this school year. I've enjoyed subbing and tried not to focus too hard on where it might lead - just emotionally opened myself up to opportunities that might come my way. I think I just need to think and pray about it a while - see if this is something He's leading me to, or if I'm trying too hard to steer my own ship.
