Now Approaching... Sleepingbooty's Sept. PTR (We're BAAACK! 9/26)

I've never stayed at CBR, so I can't really comment on that part of the plan. I have, however, stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and it was fantastic. Maybe I misread something in your earlier posts, but what would be a better deal than 40% off at a Deluxe? I can't imagine getting a much better room rate than that for WL. If you can comfortably swing it, I would say book the WL. :wizard:

:welcome: Hey there! Thanks for the comments. Wilderness Lodge does look fantastic - I can't wait to stay there someday! As far as what could be a better deal than 40% off a deluxe - you're right, it is a really great deal. At Wilderness Lodge, 40% off our room would save us about $768 - because the 40% only comes off the room portion of your stay. Free dining would save us about $864, so that's a slightly better deal. And the 4/3 would save us $1022. If we were talking about a more expensive Deluxe, like say, the Poly - then 40% off the room rate would beat free dining. Not so at the WL. But really, the issue is, should we upgrade? Because no matter how good the deal is, we'll still pay less at CBR. I'm just trying to decide if I should be responsible or splurge. Hmmmmm.....

I thought I'd start posting a picture each day, as I learn to use my new camera.
Here's one I took of the crabapple tree in our front yard:

Great new camera...do you need to have a background in photography to do a good job with a SLR.

WOW!! That is photo board worthy, Rebecca!! You are going to come home with some amazing pix of wdw!!

No, not really - this camera has a super easy guide setting that you can use right from the LCD screen, that basically just asks you what you want to do, and it sets the camera up for that. And, it does take excellent pics even on the automatic setting. But, of course I'm trying to learn all the manual settings so I can get creative, but its good to know if I'm rushed, I can just set it on auto and shoot.

Awe, thanks! We'll see.... I'm going to try to score a new lens or two before then, that's for sure!

Awesome picture!! We got the Nikon D5000 for Christmas (well, Thanksgiving really, but we called it a Christmas gift!) and I've been having fun playing with it. My son is 20 months old and I'm thrilled to have a camera that is quick enough to catch him running and playing and it's not blurry. You will have the best time on vacation with your new camera!

Thanks Krista! I am having fun with it so far. I've put up with grainy, blurry, underexposed pics for too many years!

I guess I was so excited when I was purchasing my camera that I didn't really notice that the largest aperature that the kit lens has is 5.6. (Or, maybe since its been so long since my 35mm SLR days that I forgot) That's not very large - and I really like to do photos with short depth of field (blurry background). This is about as short as I can get it.

Chapter 23. Should I?

What lens came with your camera? I have a wonderful lens, it's the Nikkor 35mm 1.8 and I LOVE it for good bokeh and in low light shots. It was only 200$ but sought after, so if you are going to want one, you may have to order and wait for it!

It came with the 18-55mm. I just looked at that 35mm Nikkor today at Best Buy. So you really like it? Would it make a good everyday lens? I've been thinking about a 50mm. In fact, I saw an older one on Craigslist for $75 yesterday and was tempted. It's not an Af-S, so I'd have to manually focus, but that's okay.

I love it, but I don't care for it every day/all day. First off, it's an adjustment for me to use it b/c I only have 3 focus points in my D40, so it's hard to compose a good pic with it b/c I can't zoom in and out. I LOVE it for good bokeh close-ups and also dark shots so I don't have to use a flash. I've heard good things about the 50mm as well! I switch between the 35mm, 18-55, and my 55-200, I'm not sure I'll ever find the perfect walk around lens!

I love the pics that your new camera takes. They are just beautiful. I'm definately not an expert when it comes to cameras and I just have a plain old point and shoot. It works for me, but I don't even know how to use all of the settings! I've had it for almost 2 years now. I need to have my little sis sit me down and give me a photo lesson. She took photograph in high school and is quite the photog!!!

Every time I open this thread, it makes me want to pursue photography more! I have no idea what you all are talking about, but now I know what "depth of field" is. Sort of.

Lovely shot of the lilacs, Rebecca!!

Coming out of lurkdom!

That last photo is gorgeous.

A lot more of my friends are getting into photography and buying SLRs and DSLRs. Most expensive hobby ever! I don't think I would ever get into it for the simple fact that I just can't afford it.

But some of the pictures that come out of those cameras are simply gorgeous. We love going to the beach or the park and taking photoshoots.

Here's something I've always wondered: Do you pronouce it BO - kay or BO - kuh? I think its a Japanese word and I probably mispronounce it!

What's funny is that I didn't know how to use all the settings on my Point and Shoot either! It was just really confusing! This is actually much easier, believe it or not.:thumbsup2

Lovely shot of the lilacs, Rebecca!!

Thank you! Lilacs are one of my all time favorite scents. I have a bar of lilac scented soap from Basin that I got on my last WDW trip - still waiting for a special occasion to open it. I just pick it up and sniff it every once in a while;)
