Hi,

My fiance and I going to Southern California November 25-29. So far, we are planning to go to Disneyland on the 25-27 and go to Knotts Berry Farm on the 28, then to visit family on the 29th. I am excited about the Christmas decorations and can't wait to see the parks at Christmas. I have a few reservations about Knotts though - is it worth taking a day away from Disneyland to see the Christmas decorations and eat fried chicken dinner at Knotts? We will not be getting to Disneyland until later on the 25th (and that day will probably only be having dinner at the Blue Bayou and reservations for the Fantasmic dessert seating area). I am hoping crowds at Disney will be lower on the 26 and 27, but is this enough days to experience everything at Disneyland? I also want to be sure we have enough time for the new Cars Land.

My fiance does love thrill rides, though I am not a big fan. I am a big fan of Peanuts characters and one of the main reasons I would like to go to Knotts is to find some unique Christmas ornaments at their Christmas shop. I'm just not sure it's worth taking a day away from Disneyland.

All help is appreciated! We are so excited for our Christmas trip.

If you search the Southern California Theme Parks forum, you'll find plenty of opinions of whether a visit to KBF "is worth it".

I'm doubtful that Knott's Merry Farm will be in operation on November 28, so although some decorations may be up, I wouldn't count on the ice show or other special entertainment on that day.

In what I had never experienced before, 4 characters (Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and Sally) appeared before park opening on the 4th. Prior to anyone being let through the turnstiles, they posed for photos - guests could stand by (and a little in front of) them:

Afterwards (starting at ~9:40 for those who did not get in early), they stood in front of the water tower:

Three days will be enough at DLR to have fun. Most of us would say one needs 4 days minimum to feel like they had a solid visit. Three days will likely feel a little short.

Honestly, I would say that how long you need at DLR and whether it's worth it to go to Knott's depends on how much you love Christmasy things and the season in general.

Do you love Christmas trees of all sizes? Do you want to see the Reindeer Round-Up? Do you want to see the Believe in Holiday Magic fireworks and Christmas Fantasy Parade? Do you want to be there when the snow falls on Main Street, with a faint trace of gingerbread in the air? Do you want to enjoy Dickens carolers and get your photo taken with any one of the 5 Santas around DLR? Do you want to do the holiday tour? Do you want to get a nice photo in front of the Winter Castle at night (when the icicle lights are on), as well as a photo in front of It's a Small World Holiday at night (when the colored lights are on)? Do you want to see the teeny tiny decorations on the cottages on the Storybook Land boat ride? Do you want to spend time looking at the themed decorations in New Orleans Square, Toon Town, A Bug's Land, Frontierland and on Main Street (not to mention whatever happens in the 2 new lands in California Adventure this year)?

There is a lot to see at DLR during the holiday season - and I am not even really including seeing the decorations (the gorgeous trees) at the 3 Disney hotels.

So, depending on how much you want to do at DLR and how much you love Christmas stuff, it may or may not be worth it to cut that time short and go to Knott's.

We love Knott's, and it's easily doable in one day. It doesn't have the lines that DL does, so you can get on everything you want without a problem. Just remember the "go to the back of the park" rule when you get there. Everyone goes to the rides closest to the gates first, and the rides at the back of the park are virtually empty.
