So my wife is a NJ teacher, so we are going down for NJEA teachers convention weekend. But now I also see it’s a RunDisney weekend.

what did I get myself into? Is it gonna be 4 days of mobbed misery?

my wife and I haven’t gotten any time away since having our 2nd kid (in the middle of the first Covid quarantine). Really just hoping this isn’t going to be an awful trip.

help talk me down!

I think that if you go with the expectation that it's going to feel crowded and at times mobbed, you will be fine. Maybe dial back your park touring and focus on enjoying your resort more?

F&W will be very busy just by virtue of it being a weekend and in addition, it is one of the last weekends for it.

Traffic can be disrupted with runners so it might be best to use Disney transportation when you can.

Do any mobile ordering early in the day, especially if you are expecting to eat at traditional dining times.

Make sure that you familiarize yourself with Genie (not necessarily Genie+) when it drops into the MDE app on or before October 19. A customized itinerary would be devised for you for no charge. You don't have to follow it, but it could help.

New Jersey week has historically been very busy. We were there once by accident. Just expect it to be busy, plan for that, hope for the best.
F&W will still be going on so EPCOT on Friday night and the weekends will be extremely crowded.

We went During Spring Break about 10 years ago. It wasn't bad. We always go with the laid back attitude though. Meaning, we aren't Disney Ride Commandos. We just like being in the parks. Epcot is our favorite. Just stroll around and take it all in.

Ok.

So should I do…

Thurs: AK and EPCOT
Fri: DHS
Sat: MK

Hows that itinerary look?
Do you want to try for a Remi boarding group? You would need to have Epcot as your first park on Thursday if you do. You won't be able to join a VQ at 7 AM unless you have an Epcot reservation. The second drop for Remi VQ is at 1 PM and you must be in the park to try for one. Since hopping doesn't start until 2 PM, you would miss out.

But you could always purchase a pass for the Lightning Lane. I think Remi is going to be around $11 per person.

Yeah. We are fully prepared to shell out for Genie+ and Lightning Lane individual attractions

I haven't been that week exactly but Epcot was super busy pre-covid on the weekends of F&W in October. I think this is a good time to shell out for the Genie+ and pay extra for the individual rides that you want to do. Maybe the holiday stuff will be out if you're into that? Is one of the after hours Christmas parties happening? Maybe consider booking that or some other uncharged event if that sounds appealing and you can afford it.

Since you're staying onsite, take advantage of the early entry for WDW resort guests. It's 30 minutes earlier than official park opening time at all 4 parks. Seems like a good way to have a somewhat less-crowded experience for maybe an hour or so.

So when is this teacher's convention?

It's the first Thurs & Friday in Nov. This year it's 11/04 & 11/05. We New Jerseyans make our mass pilgrimage that full week or just the 4 day weekend. I work in a NJ school and I'll be there 10/31-11/05.

Working in a school means traveling at busy times but we make the best of it and try to enjoy the energy of the crowds. Who knows, maybe Genie will actually help.

I hope you have a great trip. We are going a little later in November so I'll be curious to keep up with how things are going once the Disney Genie app gets going. I really do hate having to pay more for experiences given how much the tickets cost already but if overall it provides for a better experience than maybe it will be worth it for those of us who are true Disnerds!!

Lucky! My wife isn't tenured yet, so we can't risk extending our vacation at all. So just Thurs-Sun for us.

I'm a 12 month secretary, so I luckily get some extra vacation time. But even luckier - this year, for the first time, my school is closed for the whole week! I hope this becomes a regular thing.

Hi, We(family of 4) are landing at MCO at 3:15pm on 11/3 and staying at PC. We are are staying for 7 days with a 6 day base ticket. Do you think we should try to make a park ( ROTR? ) the day we land or use the 6th day ticket on the the day we depart( 7:15 pm flight)?Maybe even get 7 day ticket? Thanks.

If you are landing at 3:15, by the time you get your bags, and get to your hotel it may not be worth it to use a ticket for a very short park visit. When we arrive later in the day like that, we usually just relax in our room, maybe hit the pool, and sometimes we will go to Disney Springs for a bite to eat. We always schedule a return flight home much later in the day and visit a park that day.

We always go busy weeks bc my husband is a teacher- it’s all about mindset and planning. We haven’t been since covid, but in the olden days (anything before March 2020) we always made it work on the busy weeks - I’m talking week of Easter, spring break etc.
