November is expensive!

When did the first half of November become so expensive? Looking at 4 nights and a preferred room at CBR is over $500 a night! I can get a fireworks view with balcony at the Dolphin for less. I thought the beginning of November wasn't busy, is something going on I'm not considering?

Fall is almost as popular as spring break. Halloween & the first week of November used to be slower, but I’ve seen posts about increasing crowds those weeks the last few years. Summer has the less expensive rates now. Mousesavers shows all the different rates. I just counted 20 different rate categories. Also, there are now rates for Sunday - Wednesday/ Thursday/ Saturday-Sunday, with those being the highest of course. So if you’re looking at a long weekend, the rates will be higher than a Sunday - Thursday stay.

november was one of our favorite months to go when the kids were younger-smaller crowds and (for us) the nicest weather. I wonder if Disney caught on that in some regions of the u.s. students get an entire non thanksgiving week off school during which airfare is traditionaly lower cost.

I think they caught on to that a long time ago, and some of it is due to their own efforts. In addition to Jersey Week, the Food & Wine fest is going on, there’s the Wine & Dine race weekend, and Veterans Day holiday too. Not to mention that the weather in early November is much more pleasant than in the summer!

I didn’t realize how insane resort prices have gotten. We’re DVC so we don’t usually book rooms but out of curiosity I priced out the new free dining deal at the end of October in a variety of resorts and the prices are just insane.

I don’t understand why more people don’t rent DVC points, it ends up being cheaper than even a moderate typically.

We rented BRV points here on the board ($18 a point) because it’s not our home resort and we could never get what we wanted there, and it ended up costing about $270 a night. The All Stars were over $200 a night when I looked! We stayed one night at POR before our BRV stay and that night cost more than our BRV nights, about $370

Early Nov is a great time to go and see the start of Christmas, and I never felt it was too crowded. I also saved very little on any of those trips. The TA would always check when new deals came out but I think the most saved was like 200 bucks and that was before covid.

The days leading up to Halloween the past few years have seemed to have less crowds than thr first part of Nov but you have to be ok with Halloween vs Christmas and if I'm going in the fall I want Christmas. Otherwise I'd go in early September which has tended to have lower crowds.

I'd love to go in Jan/Feb to do festival of the arts but I also go to Florida to warm up so the potential for a cold snap keeps me away.

I’d book that.

Or get a standard room at CBR if one is available. It will save you more than a $100 per night.

When we’ve looked at renting DVC in the past, it seemed too risky for me. I just know that the one time we lock on dates with no refund options, I’ll need to get my appendix removed or something like that.

We’ve looked into it. But it’s easier to change or cancel a trip booked through Disney and get your deposit back.

We looked at rates last night, just for fun. We've been doing Disney (just the 2 of us) for between $2k-$2,500 out the door. But now it's closer to $3,500 for the same weeks and same things we've done before. I don't understand it. I guess I do understand because no matter what they charge, people will still buy and go to the parks. They could charge $1k a ticket, and people would still go. It's crazy.

Agreed, my dh has declared never again in January. And we are from MN.

After over 20 years on the DIS I think another factor could be that many parents are willing to take a child out of school for a vacation in off peak times, which unfortunately has increased demand year round. And Disney also tends to be one of those companies that would rather leave a room empty than cut the price.

My dh too. Not only was our last January trip cold, but rainy every day too. We had ponchos over our coats but our shoes and socks were soaked. Dh turned at me and yelled, “Stop picking January!”

It seemed like every trip, it would be 80 degrees until our arrival date, then the high would be 55 while we’re there. Then the day we’d fly home would be 79 and sunny.

We had similar weather in early March.

I loved it when we went a couple of times in january-i much prefer long pants and at worst wearing a light sweater to suffering the heat that we've experienced other months.

the 'worst' weather (according to the locals there) we ever experienced was one late November/early December when we arrived to see every doorman/every outdoor worker in theme park issued puffer coats shivering like they had been transported to the artic. it felt great to us-t shirt weather but the staff explained that it was 'freezing' (never got lower than late overnight in the high 40's/days in the 60's). we enjoyed largly vacant pools and water parks where my kids couldn't get over the sights of the lifeguards in shorts and tank tops bundled over in puffer coats and knit caps.
