November/December WISH Walkers and Runners Training Thread

Chris so where will you be on that Sunday??? Are you planning on "goofing off" on Saturday or do you have a PR your chasing? I was wondering if your daughter was doing that again this year. Basketball? Are you coaching this year?

For me, I hit the gym last night and did the usual. You know cursed the TM, made faces at the class while I did the weights and then whined while on the ellipitcal (I wonder if that is why the Zumba music keeps getting louder? LOL)

and I think I finally figured out what AFM means! :lmao:

Have a great day everyone!!!

Sunday I will be in EPCOT or MGM screaming my butt off for you and the rest of the WISH and ROTE crew! No PR for me on Saturday either. I'm coming for the fun!
She is playing Basketball again (Rec and Travel league), but I'm retired from Coaching. LOL

WTG Joan!!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Awesome job!!!!

Maura high calorie burn for the stuffin, well in my case probably more like dessert but yup. The reason I will probably do some miles in the (as of this morning) forcasted Thanksgiving rain. :) YAY! On getting all the prep work done for Thanksgiving!

Chris ahhh fun. Planning on pics with all the characters? I hope to get fast enough some day that I can stop and not worry about lines and my pace. :) By the time I see you on Sunday I will be the walking dead, so will definitely be looking forward to spotting you in either of those places. :thumbsup2 I think Tracy is heading to the MGM entrance later in the day.

for me. Managed 6 miles last night. A bit slower, a bit more nervous over sidewalk cracks and twigs. But Keely and I did it. The temps were in the "feels like" zone of 24. But I was toasty :thumbsup2

ZUKES Keely has been enjoying them. She's had them on 3 runs now and even mid-run. They are kinda like a jerky feel to them in thickness. She has the beef. It's funny giving her them mid-run. She gives me this look of 'what's that for?" but she gingerly takes it. I think she thinks it's a bribe to stop LOL

Everyone have a great day and Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating.
Off to my 8K Turkey Trot. Cloudy skies about 50 degrees.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!! Those traveling have a fun&safe trip!!! :)

Those racing Turkey Trots Woohoo!!!! Have fun!!!

Last night at the gym was quiet. Just a few of us. Did the ellipitical 1st and it went easier and faster. Then the machines and TM. so a usual night. :thumbsup2

Still trying to decide if I want to do miles today or tomorrow. I'm leaning towards tomorrow and doing a back to back weekend :) Relaxing day planned otherwise.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Gobble Gobble! :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Hope all enjoyed a great meal and family fun.
Congrats to all who did the turkey trots today.

Terri

Last day of November!!!

The weekend was mostly cross training in the form of raking wet leaves, carrying boxes (including stair training with boxes up & down attic stairs!) and lots of non-stop decorating. They say cleaning the house to good music counts as exercise (I know I read it somewhere!) so it counts! :lmao:

Monday Night = 2.5 miles on the elliptical, doing it first thing helps. Then the upper body circuit. The TM's were filled (by the stockings with care! :rotfl: :upsidedow ) and it was actually a nice evening with temps in the low 40's/39ish. So I grabbed Keely and we did 4 miles while looking at the lights. I'm still quite skittish running at night. If I feel a branch/twip pull at my pant leg I come to a complete stop and tip toe to safety. Keely gives me that doggy look of "come on! stop being a wuss!"

But I am happy to report. 4 miles done and even more lights were up to be enjoyed!

Have a good week!

WTG Diane!

Still no running for me. :sad2: Had an MRI last week. Talked to Dr.'s assistant on the phone today. The MRI shows I still have a "mild to moderate hamstring sprain". After 3.5 months! Ugh!

I can still go to PT and do the stretches and exercises. I get re-evaluated on Dec. 17th. They said if it's still not healed, then I may have to get an ultrasound and possibly a cortisone shot :scared1: I'm praying it heals, because me and cortisone shots don't agree!

Terri

Terri- I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that you don't have to have a cortisone shot. I've had tohave several of those in my heel before. Not fun!!

It's been all about cross training for me lately. I'm registered for a Stair Climb Event. So, I've been hiking the stairs everyday. 17 floors so far and it's getting easier every day. I took DianeL's advice and took the dogs out for a 1.5 mile run last night to look at the lights.

For those getting ready for up coming races, keep up the great work!!

Susan

The night light run is on my list of things to do this month. I'm going to wait as I'm a wimp in the cold so I'll wait until people get busy and put up their lights.

I'm a morning runner and October could be rather creepy just before day break. Seems as the month went on there were more and more hangings in my neighborhood.:scared1: And so many grave yards and huge inflatable cats with glowing eyes.

I'm hoping for a better feeling when I attempt my Christmas light night run.:)

So incredibly behind here. :( At least I'm not too behind on my trianing or shopping. ;)

Christa - Great to see you here! Hope to see you in January!

Maura - COngrats to your dd! Huge congrats to you too!!!! Love the new-to-me sig!!! You rock! Post-cruise chaos didn't give me a chance to see if that time qualified you. Awesome! BTW - We wear lights on head or waist that helps tons in the dark.

lolkat - COngreatulations!!!!!! I'll be cheering for you in January!

Joan - Awesome time on teh Santa scramble!!!

Chris - coming for teh fun in January? Awesome! :worship: Huge thanks for cheerign on SUnday!

Diane - House cleaning kills me! Monday i slaundry adn pick up day and I am dead come swim class. Most definitely counts IMO! So glad the fall did not hurt you and youa re enjoying the lights. That's a drawback fro me living in a pretty rural area. NOt too many lights.

Terri - S sorry to hear that. Hoppe that you are ehaled soon!!! :wizard::wizard:

Susan - Way to go on teh stairs!!! I read one that every stair you climb adds 1 minute to your life. You shoul dlive to 110. ;)

Been pretty bummed about my pace lately, but still gettign the steps in. Had the annual doc's appt Monday and let feelign muchbetter about myself. :goodvibes The form said "What type of exercise do you do and how often." Ok...Swim, bike, run....oh yeah, and yoga,,,oh, strength trianign counts too! Now, how often...3 to 5 times a week. Wait, no, I do Fridays now too, so 3 to 6 times a week. Wow, I sound pretty good on paper. :rotfl:

The NP was very impressed. :cloud9: I said, yeah, but I need to work on my eating. She would nto go that road (and I was expecting a lecture). Made my day! :)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I picked some up at REI on the weekend and will try them out on Jack during our long run this week. Jack gets very focused during his runs, though, so he might not know what to make of it, like Keely. :rotfl:

Happy December all (and happy birthday to me).

Diane What is it with the TM being filled up anyway? Where are all these people coming from? I have had to run on non-favorite TMs at the gym lately. Funny how you get attached to certain ones.

Terri Here's hoping the hammie improves soon and no shots needed!

Susan Is the stair climbing event local....like the one at the RenCen?

Joan Yes, definitely hope the Xmas runs will be less scary and more fun!

Just hanging in there with training for the next few weeks. Will ramp up after Christmas.

Hang in there everyone!

Maura
Carrie You are a fitness goddess....nothing more I can say but that!

Maura- Yes, the stair climb is at the Ren Cen. I believe the date is March 6th. My 1/2 marathon buddy at work has gotten me into it. I work at Henry Ford downtown and the main building has 17 floors. So, training is pretty convenient.
Also, we are using the stair climbing events as a way to start training for the Great Wall 1/2 Marathon. We aren't going to China until 2013, but there is supposed to be several thousand steps in that half marathon. We are going to need every bit of training time we can get!!

Have you done the stair climb?

-Susan

I just got back from what I would consider my first winter run of the year. 14 with wind chill and snow falling with just a thin coating on the ground. It really does feel peaceful running in the snow with all the Christmas lights on the houses.

Frank, good for you for being able to look on teh bright side in that cold! I am so not acclimated yet. Spoiled this year.

Susan - OMG! That's awesome! Both the ren cen even adn the Great Wall!

Maura - :rotfl: I have the varied work outs and a good quantitiy of them, but I think you kick my hiney in quality. ;) Oh,I wish I could not ramp up until after the holidays. Then again thaty's why I have to do WDW marathon. I owuld be a couch potato if I didn't.

Ugh. Second dreadmill run of the season last night. 60 min. Ugh. Roads are icier today, so it looks like there will be a rematch for 45 min tonight. Anyone ever use a woodway? DH tried it lasst night. He said it hurt. Does not sound liek somethign I will try in teh near future. :p They have regular adn curved. He did the curved. It's not powered. You "drive" it yourself. DH said it can be difficult to control speed. No, I really don't need that. I have my own DM difficulties. :rotfl:

Help! what's that discount code for Running Warehouse? Dang, I just ordered two pairs of shoes for my girls and forgot to use it. I need to ordered mine, but I'm getting the new new zoom triax 14. I got the 13 for my girls, but they don't have my size.

Well, I bundled up and went for a hour walk at noon..about 5 minutes after I got in it started sleeting. Yuck! I did see signs at a neighborhood house about some one running the LV rock & roll.

:worship::worship: to all you who can get out and do it in the cold. I have been on the TM all week..last run outside was last Saturday.

Well, according to our forecast it looks like my 20 miler will be in the snow and 10 degree wind chill tomorrow. I was hoping the snow would hold off just one more week to let me get the 20 miler in but I guess I'll just have to suck it up.

We are in the deep freeze here in Charlotte..hope it warms a bit for the Thunder Road Marathon on Saturday.
I headed to the gym this morning for an easy yet boring 8 miler on the TM today. My ipod was dead and I didn't know it. Gotta love the dreadmill, Carrie.
I saw on another thread that Maura kicked butt this weekend at a 5K.
Have fun on that LR Frank.
