November 8, 2008 7 Night Eastern 11/8/2008 11-8-2008 FIRST POST UPDATED ON 10/16/08

I've been off the board for a bit dealing with some elder care issues out of town. It's so hard to see our parents fading and failing.

I love the direction this group is going with the wine/martini etc etc tastings. Although-- I am one of the few gin lovers here. It may be my northern blood. I need the antifreeze! Winter has been so long up here in Canada. November seems so far away.....
Let's definitely plan a group for one of the tastings....

I am thrilled to hear that at least one other DH will be tuxed up for formal night. I was feeling kindof silly the other day when I started buying stuff for the cruise (other shopping addicts out there?) when I noticed that he had bought 3 bow ties because he couldn't decide which one he liked best! That's why I love the guy.

Hope winter breaks its nasty spell and frees us from this frozen wasteland!

Fantastic Four...my DH will be tuxed up and I'll be wearing a long gown for both formal night and whatever night we go to Palo. Two cruises ago we had a big Disboards dress up photo on formal night and the ladies wore tiaras and long black gloves. I'll be wearing mine (not too many other occasions to do it!) We LOVE to dress up.

Fabulous Disney serendipity moment...on the Magic back in '05 DH and I are in the elevator alone all glammed up en route to Palo on formal night. The elevator door opens and surprise! Standing outside the elevator door on deck 10 is Goofy in HIS tuxedo! We had this funny interchange (wow, look at YOU!) and then we traded places and he got in the elevator with his handler. No one else was around. Got the picture of us with Goofy somewhere...

We've got a Wonder cruise coming up first in June before this one. It will be cruise #10 for us...we take the kids on Wonder and come by ourselves on Magic ;-)

Haven't posted in a while-very busy due to tax season. Just wanted to welcome all the new comers. Count my wife, her friend Lynn & myself in for the Martini Tasting-either gin or vodka. Or both! And I'd do the beer tasting again. Hey Lost fans-WOW-what a great episode tonight in our opinion! What did you think? No spoilers until the West Coast has seen it.
Can't wait until 11/8 & until the wind chill in New York goes above 5 degrees.
Chris

WOW LOST!!! It was one of the best yet!!! Good old Des got to tell Penny he loved her!:lovestruc

I had to record Lost, I will try to watch today.

We are all pretty quiet lately.

Has anyone done the Sunny Liston tour on St Thomas? Or is anyone going to? Trying to decide what to do there.

Happy March!! We are getting closer to 11/8!!

:confused3 What is this? We have no idea what we are going to do off the boat. I want to hit a few beaches and see some sites. What is everyone planing on doing on the islands?

I have been looking in to the St. Thomas options but have not settled on anything yet.

The Sunny Liston tours get good reviews here and on the other boards. They have organized tours or if you can get a group together you can have a custom tour. Link ---> http://sunnylistontours.com/

My kids are pushing for the Sea Lion Splash at Coral World. I'm not sure I want to drop the $500+ on that one though! Still thinking about it...

As for St. Maarten, we are booked for the Loterie Farm Treetop & Zipline Adventure. We went through Island Marketing. Link ---> http://www.stmaartencruiseexcursions.com/index.html but I'm sure there are many others to book through. Note: DCL currently does not book the Zip-Line Adventure, only the Loterie Farm Tour.

Don't forget, the beaches and roads will be packed on St. Marrten when we are there. Holiday, Schools Closed, Race around the island, All stores closed on 1/2 the island, etc....

Howdy all, another dreay winter day here in Chicago has us pining away for Castaway Cay....

I have to make one small change to our info. After much soul searching, we decided to dwongrade from a Cat 3 to a Cat 4. I will be sad to leave the space and goodies behind but the $3000 difference makes me feel better! We still get to cruise and have a bit more spending money so all is well.

Have a good day and think sunny thoughts!

It has been 71 degrees here today. I am almost afraid to think what will follow!:scared1: It is way too early for temperatures to be like this for any length of time, but I will take it when it comes!

We just came back from a long weekend of state wrestling tournaments.
Everyone is very tired! Only the dog is full of energy!:rotfl:

Since I don't have enough energy to do much, maybe I can sit at the computer and work on signs!:confused3

Have a good week everyone!

We also had a beautiful day on Monday 57 degrees!!! What a tease!! Today it is freezing rain and 27 degrees.

We are also doing the zip line on St Maarten. Can't wait, all the reviews say that they had a great time.

Bye for now.

Well, it's 8 months from today that I'll be hanging out at the Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT. The next morning, we'll be jumping in the car and heading over to the port to jump on the boat.

Just 2 thoughts:
1) That's a long time to wait.
2) If gas prices keep going up, I don't know if we'll be able to afford to drive. We might find ourselves walking from South Carolina.

Mozart- Just curious - What are the gas prices in SC. When I got gas during the week it was $2.91 in NJ. Unfortunately, I always notice that gas goes up before holidays (Easter). They figure people will be travelling and on the road more. JMO

It was $3.18 earlier this week when I filled up, but I live in the northwest corner of the state. Last weekend I was in the other part of the state, over near I-95. We had to stop for gas then and noticed that the ones right on the interstate were $3.47. Now, you can drive about a mile off the interstate and get gas alot cheaper, if you know where to go. Most of 95 in SC is in rural areas where you'll just find farmland if you try that, though. If you have to stop instate on a drive down, your best bets for cheaper gas are in Florence and Manning, but you'll have to be willing to explore a little bit to find it.

Just a piece of advice for everyone driving from the north through SC on 95. Watch your speed once you're south of Florence. Clarendon County makes a living off of speeders. That's the Manning-Turbeville-Santee area. They'll usually give you 8-10 mph, but they've got some nasty speed traps, and you'll pass through them without ever seeing the patrol cars. I'm originally from that area and know a few of the deputies and have seen how their speedtraps are set up. Those country boys are tricky.

Mozart- Yikes! Thanks for all the info especially about the speedtraps. I will remember. We have stayed in Florence ( I believe off of 95) and remember Santee. I will have to check back with you and GoofyFD before our trip. Gas is now up to $2.99 this week.

Everyone have a good night.

Our gas prices went from $3.25 yesterday to $3.45 today. We are planning to drive to our dd in South Carolina the first weekend in April. I hate to think what it will cost by then!:confused3

I just bought all of our plane tickets yesterday. I was afraid that the air fare will only go higher as time goes on. The weekend is not the time to look at airfare prices. They were much higher over the weekend.

On one cruise they increased the charge of the cruise by $10.00 per person and it was during a time that fuel charges were climbing. The letter we got said that it was because of docking charges at one of the ports, but we all thought it was because of fuel. Can you image what an increase they must be paying for fuel?:scared1:

Just a few more days and it will be spring, on the calendar anyway!

Hope everyone is well.

Disney Dreams!:grouphug:

Has anyone heard any more about everything being closed the day we are in St. Maartin? I sent an email to Disney Cruise Line and they said there is no way they can change their cruise itinerary. I don't see what would be so difficult to change the order of the stops. They will be in for some real negative feedback with a ship full of people who cannot shop in one of the ports who has the best shopping.

What do you think?:confused3
