Hi everyone,
Just saying Hi! I got home a little while ago from Canada. My friend and I had an amazing time, and it was just a perfect weekend!
We were celebrating each other's birthdays up in Vancouver, which was the reason we went up to Vancouver.
The weather was perfect... blue skies every day!
One thing that was really neat is my friend wanted to buy me a new dress to wear on the cruise for my birthday! So, she found me an awesome dress and so I'm going to wear it on my birthday (in the evening) on the ship!! That is our Palo night, so that will be even more fun!
I read through the posts from the weekend! That was fun.
To answer some questions:
1) we have 2nd seating... so we might see all of you who have 2nd seating, but it also depends on the dining room rotation you have. If someone has 2nd seating, but a different dining room rotation, you probably won't see each other much (where you'd most likely see each other is at the show, if you go, at the Walt Disney Theater, or just maybe walking to and from your dining room that evening). But, if you have the same dining room rotation, then likely you'll see each other every night, if you do go to the dining room.
2) checking suitcases vs. carrying-on: I agree with Kathy in that if you plan to get to port and board the ship closer to 11:45 - 12:00, it is kind of a pain to have a bunch of bags/suitcases with you because you can't just set it somewhere on the ship and then leave and come back to get it when your room is ready. You have to just carry it around with youe everywhere, and if you want to do the buffet for lunch, it makes it hard because you have all these bags with you. But, if you are planning to arrive to the ship closer to 1:30 or later, then you should be able to get in your stateroom by then, so you can just go to your stateroom first thing, drop your bags off, and then go explore the ship. So, in that case, it wouldn't be as much of a pain.
I guess the question to ask is are you willing to spend the baggage fees on the plane to make life a little easier and more convenient on the day you board the ship, or would you really rather save that $$ on baggage fees and just deal with carrying your bags around the ship, but then you'd have that extra $$ to spend on something else on the ship. There are a lot of people who carry their bags on the ship, but there are also a lot of people who just check all their bags and have Disney do all the work... so it's really just up to the person, and what is more important to them.
3) packing for less than a week, just a week, or more? We always pack for less than a week. We pretty much just bring like 3 - 4 days worth of clothes for each person in our family, and then we do laundry at some point on the ship. We just dont' like to bring a lot with us on vacations, so we just pack light.
For a 7-day cruise, pack 3-4 days worth of shorts, t-shirts, then some pants for each person, long sleeves (for evenings) for each person, the formal wear, then some semi-formal wear, then shoes (for our boys, I bring sandals, tennis shoes, and then a pair of dress shoes, DH brings sandals, dress shoes, and running shoes, I bring running shoes, sandals, and because of my previous ankle injury, I cannot wear high heels now
, so I just bring a pair of nice dressy flat shoes), then all our pirate outfits, then swim suits (I bring 2 for each person in our family... that way while one is drying out, you can wear another, and just alternate)... then all our toiltries. So, we usually end up doing laundry somewhere right in the middle of the cruise.
Ok, I think that was it...
Well, I hope everyone is doing well and that everyone had a great weekend!!
Kathy
ps. Less than 2 weeks!!!!
