Hope everything gets better with your Mom, I hope it feels better in a few days and doesn't require surgery.

I would have to say my favorite hobbies are sports (football, basketball, and volleyball). I would say second would be vacation planning because when we plan my wife expects me to know everything about the places we are going to go to. I am her personal Tour Guide. Though our friends Josh and Kellie like it. When we went to San Fran together they thought I had been there before.:rotfl2:

Well friends of the disboards, my mother was rooming beside us on the cruise and last night she was lifting a TV and broke one of her veterbrae.
Oh no! She must be heartbroken and so disappointed-but maybe in a week she'll feel well enough to try traveling. How soon do you have to decide if she cancels or not? Hope this all works out.

Sandy

Welcome back, Kathy-what a great pre-birthday weekend!
Tim-loved the pictures and "Daddy Magic"-how sweet! Our DD is 28, married with a 15 month of her own, but she still thinks her dad is pretty magical!
Gma Kathy, how exciting-you leave Friday! Thank you for all the great advice and pictures that you posted-you really got things going around here! Looking forward to meeting you, Greg and Peter at the Dis Meet! :)
Favorite hobbies? Well, I read (alot) and I like to go to antique stores-and I enjoy walking on the old rail trail near our house.

Everyone sounds way more organized than I am-I think I better get serious this week!

Sandy

Kristi,

So sorry to hear about your mother; hopefully she will get better soon. Did she lift the TV @ work? If so, she'll have a good WC claim, have her give me a call ;) She probably has a compression fracture which is a very annoying and painful injury; there is usually nothing to treat it but time . . .

As far as seatings and hobbies, I guess my hobbies are gardening and videogames. Karen just likes to plan things, as you saw from her fancy FE spreadsheet. I remember when we got married I had a schedule for the whole weekend that was color coded for about 30 people with pink for the girls and blue for the boys . . . give her something to organize and she'll go crazy. We have 1st seating, 8:00 is about Peter's bedtime.

Hmmm... I love to read and I've been learning digital scrapbooking (I used to do paper scrapbooking, but hadn't had the motivation to drag everything out and put it back up again, digital's great - I can work for 30 minutes and the whole 30 minutes is spent actually scrapping - not setting up and breaking down my work area!)

Well friends of the disboards, my mother was rooming beside us on the cruise and last night she was lifting a TV and broke one of her veterbrae. She will probably not be going on the cruise. I am not discouraging her of going because of Kathy's (LTR) positive comments about crusing with an injury. However, I don't want her to fall on the ship and have to be flown somewhere. We've even talked about her wearing her flip flops with her evening gown, as I doubt she will be wearing heels. Anyway, we will just have to wait and see. Luckily we had her buy the insurance. Please pray for us!

Oh no! We'll send happy thoughts her way for a speedy recovery!

What a support group I have here! Thanks for all your advice and well wishes with my mom. We went to Dr. today and he said the fracture is not all that bad, its in the middle versus posterior or anterior on the T12. The Dr. almost didn't even prescribe the brace but once we told him about the cruise, he did. So, YES SHE IS COMING, Yeah!!!!!! So far, the worst thing is, she can't wear heels to dinner. I'm not saying she isn't in a lot of pain, but the news could have been much worse. Thank you Jesus!!!! The Dr. even told her that she could walk on the sand and do the shore excursions. He said for the pain to be her guide as to what activity to do.

Grant (GreensboroKG): The accident happened at home but I would have thought of you if it didn't!

Does anyone know, if my mom wears this big brace that covers her entire abdomen and holds up her neck(google minerva images), will Disney need a note from her Dr. that she is cleared to go? DH had this question and its not a bad one.

Evening all,
Michael,
just a few more posts and then you can share those photos.:goodvibes
You need to keep posting so you can post the photos before I leave Friday. I want to see them:upsidedow

Thats AWESOME news!!!!
I am so happy she gets to come. I know even with pain I would rather have pain on the ship watching the ocean waves than sitting at home starring at a TV wishing i was on the ship.

I dont know about the medical form but it might be agood idea just in case? You can print it off on line and then just leave it at the Dr and ask them to fill it out. I think my Doctors office charged me $15 to fill it out without an appointment. Well worth a few bucks to be on the safe side.

Tell your mom we are looking forward to meeting her,:goodvibes

hmmmm... question of the day... [B said:
Here is a non-Disney question:[/B]
What is your favorite hobby?

-Kathy

Christine and I are both big runners. Well... she's a big runner and I just do my best to keep up with her :) I also like photography / videography, working on home improvement projects, and any type of sport; golf, tennis, volleyball, softball, soccer, etc.

If the next few weeks go well I may take up a new hobby... "Cruiser" :thumbsup2

We selected 1st seating for dinner... sounds like there's just a few of us on the early shift? We were worried about the kids being able to stay up late.

We will be arriving about the same time, accept we are flying in from Oregon. It would take us 5 or 6 days driving really hard to get to Florida by car.

Ok... I can't believe I'm asking this... I really do plan to get away and disconnect from the world for 7 full days... however:

Do they have cell phone or internet access on the ship? If yes, is it crazy expensive?

Yes they have internet access, in fact they have several computers set up next to the Promenade lounge where we will have our meet the first day that people can use. I dont remember the prices but it moves the speed of dial up most of the time.

I will look for the price and post when I find it.

People with younger kids usually try for early dinner.

If their old enough for the clubs, they often have movies where the kids can wear the PJ's to watch the movie then fall asleep until mom and dad return for them. Or a Pajama party. That helps parents to have one or two nights out in the evening for the clubs.

Gma Kathy, Thanks for reminding me of Goofy's sleepover. DD packed a gown to sleep in and that won't work for the sleepover.

Also, we have 1st seating. Not sure if DH and I could stay up late!

Oh, that is GREAT news! I'm so glad it's not as bad as they thought. I cringe every time I hear of injuries like this... That is really great the doctor said she can do the excursions depending on her comfort level!

I agree with Kathy in that it wouldn't hurt to fill out the medical form. If the brace is really obvious, then it might not hurt in case they ask when you check in at port. But, on the flip side, my DH was on crutches on our first cruise (yes, we REALLY do have bad luck with injuries and cruises... :lmao::lmao: this WILL be the first cruise with no injuries... I'm CERTAIN!! :thumbsup2), and it was obvious he was injured, but they asked nothing about it nor did they ask for any medical forms, etc, when we checked in. But, a back brace might be different. My back brace I wore when I fractured my sacrum was under my clothes, so people couldn't see it, so it wasn't an issue when I checked in at port.

But, I would get a doctor's note JUST in case... wouldn't hurt at all.

Yay, SO great to hear there are other runners!!! How fun! I bet we'll see each other on Deck 4 running (that is where you can run laps on the ship, and it's SO much fun, especially on sea days). What kind of running do you guys do (like long distances (marathons, half-marathons), or shorter distances (5Ks, 10Ks)? Or, are you just runners that just like to run without really keeping track of distance or time?

I used to do full marathons and half-marathons, but it got to be too time consuming once I had kids, so I moved to short distances, so now I just do 5K's and 10K's... I also did triathlons for several years, but no longer do those... just got tired of them. So, I just run now (although, I just started running 2 months ago for the first time in 1 1/2 years because of just crazy crazy injuries!! Go figure! I had never been injured in my life, and then in a period of 1 1/2 years, I just was so injured and in physical therapy for 1 year 8 months straight.... so hopefully my injury streak is OVER and I'm back to normal!) So, I'm working my way up again in running, but taking it easy because my ankle still acts up if I over-do it, and I don't want any set backs!! But, it does feel good to finally be running again after such a long "forced sabbatical"! :)

I assume you and Christine will be doing the Castaway 5K! My husband (who is also a runner) and I will for sure be doing it. It is a lot of fun!

As for everyone else, hope you all had a great day! I can't believe we leave next week! I need to seriously start thinking about packing, etc. I have my FE done and all my FE gifts all organized and ready to go. I have all of our pirate costumes/gear all put together in one spot. So, now, it's just a matter of getting clothes together, which I probably won't do until next week. Oh, I'm so excited!

Take care,
Kathy

Happy Tuesday everyone:yay:

NC2WDW, sorry to hear about your Mom, but so glad that she will still be joining us!

We have first seating, i know our kids are older, and we never eat that early at home, but it just seemed like we had more of an evening after dinner.

Kathy (GMA) Tell me about Goofy's sleepover, what age group is it for? Now assuming i can get my kids to the kids clubs, this might be fun for them!

I was pretty busy yesterday, i got some gifts for the FE, i booked my car rental, and well that was about it, but it was a start! I am not sure where to book our hotel. It would be cheaper to stay in Orlando, but my concern is how much traffic will be going into Cocoa Beach for the airshow on the Saturday!

Have a Magicial day everyone!
