November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

Another first timer question... we were planning to save a few $$ and carry on most of our luggage and only check 1 bag between the 4 of us. Sandals and swimsuits don't take up much room :)

Is is better to just check everything and let our bags magically appear in our room? It sounds like some people hit the ground running as soon as they show up and might be slowed down by multiple carry on bags?

Your thoughts?

- Michael

If you arrive after the time your room is ready then a few bags would be ok I guess because you can just drop them off in your room right away.
But it is a hassle to get them all through security and then get them up to the check in place and then to drag them on the ship.

To me its not worth the hassle. We have one check in bag and my small canvas bag, to carryon. Thats it.

If you arrive prior to the rooms being ready (approx 1:30 P.M.) it would really be a hassle to drag your bags around or have one person sit with them, plus most have lunch upon arrival and finding places to keep your bags out of the way for people to get by in the buffet would be a hassle too.

If it were me I would check all but one bag with all your important things like medicines and documents. Thats why they send you out luggage ID tags for a few bags. Its much easier for all not to have extra luggage sitting around to be in the way.
Just my opinion.

But when I think about it you dont see many with anything but a carry on and kids have backpacks checking in.

Do what ever works best for you,

Kathy

Here is another question to those who have cruised before: Anyone else have 2nd seating?

We do! Just would like to know who we will be eating with so we can avoid that awkward school cafeteria moment of trying to figure out who sits where.

Thanks for the welcome. Just slowing down enough to have time to get excited about the cruise. Our room number came up as 6500 -and accessible-it may come in handy after this week- I may need to borrow dad's wheelchair. Dad is 89 and I have been moving him from assisted living to another senior living apartment for the past week. Alyssa wanted to talk fun excursions but I just couldn't concentrate that direction yet-guess my multi-tasking skills are going with my hitting Senior status -oh well-free coffee at MacieD's is a bonus!

We are 2nd Seating right now. We asked to move to 1st because we wonder if our 4 year old can wait until 8pm to eat. She is normally ready to eat by 5pm.

So, if we don't get moved we will be there.:thumbsup2

Michelle's Mom here. I've been following along, just not much of a participator. But we are getting very close now, and with Michelle out of town, I finished up a few things this morning. I ordered our wine package, water and a beer mug package for my sister. That sounds terrible, like all we're going to do is drink! No, but the wine package for dinner is great to pre-order, it doesn't seem like you're spending as much during the cruise. I also pre-ordered our water. I know, paying way to much, but then I don't have to lug it to port. And in the grand scheme of things, considering the cost of the cruise, is $1.60 a bottle really too much?:confused3 I also requested the bed be made into twins as we are three women traveling together. That is something I missed on the Dream. All the beds are queen, they cannot be seperated and while I LOVE my daughter and sister...:rotfl:

It's a beautiful morning here in Dallas, I hope you all are having the same. I'm wearing my Countdown panties my sister made for me years ago. I have 30 pair, each has a different Disney character and the days left until vacation. Today Tourist Goofy says 13!

Have a good day everyone and GO RANGERS!!:dance3:

OK, this time I am GOING TO REMEMBER to watch the Magic sail away at 5:00 p.m.; I've seen the Dream a few times but always forget to do the Magic. After this, only one more chance to do it, then it's us!

Also, today is applesauce making day, always an adventure; last year only about a third of what I made was very good (or even edible for that matter, haha, too much ascorbic acid). I will do better this year and have about 50 lbs of apples outside.

We (Jay and I) have second seating-but what I remember from our last cruise and what I've read is that they will probably seat you with a family with children the same age. We traveled last time with our 15 year old daughter and were seated at a table for eight with another family with a daughter a little older than ours and a nice couple from England without children. :)

Hi Michelle's mom! Michelle has posted about the beautiful weather in Orlando-and since it's overcast and 50 degrees in PA that sounded wonderful!
I have been going back and forth on the idea of purchasing the wine package-it seems like alot of wine (7 bottles!) for just the two of us, but if we each order one glass of wine with dinner and have a glass in our room it would be worth it not to pack a separate bag. I will have to check this out again!

We have 2nd seating too. They will assign you a table. Sometimes its just a table for 4 which means its just your family. There are also tables for 6 and 8 and they do try to seat people with kids with others with kids.
It can be alot of fun sitting with new people. Usually people are very sociable on the cruise and will discuss what they did that day, where they are from and such. Once they get you to your table if its a large table and nobody else is there, just sit together at one end so the other family can be together too and your set.

Hi Vicki,
Great to see you posting today.
Michelle told us about your panties. I think that is so fun. I never would of thought about that for a count down. I just make a paper chain.;)

Hope you wont be such a stranger now,

For us its 2 P.M. our time and everything halts around here until the ship pulls out and then clears the channel.

We did request 1st seating but it hasn't been changed on the website yet, we called twice. When I get there I will request again.

But if we don't I am not going to worry about it and just enjoy our meal. We can feed the kids at normal time from the buffet. They will probably be more happy with burgers and fries than anything else.

2nd seating here as well. I don't expect to be there much if they can't switch us. My youngest is asleep by 8pm but we're trying to push her bedtime back now so when the trip comes, she may be able to stay awake for it.

Can't wait for this trip, transmission just went out in my wifes SUV.. Waiting on a tow truck now (luckily it died at my house)...

Hope they can fix it at a descent cost.

Just bought a Sony cam corder for the cruise.:cool1:

Now we have less than a week to learn to use it before going to WDW.
Our old ones works great but its big and bulky about 10 years old I think.
This one is small and so light weight.
Cant wait to try it out.

Well now that we bought that I need to get my laundry done.
Back later,

17 minutes until the Magic pulls out of port. I must watch the web cam to see it pull out,

Kathy

Finally, all of mine, DS, and DD clothes are laid out for the cruise. Also, we are finally available and remembering to watch the Magic pull out of port for the first time.

Is anyone else packing less than a weeks worth of clothes? On sea days, we aren't even packing any day clothes, just swimsuits and cover-ups. Does anyone think I'm crazy or are you all doing something similar. I do have 6 pairs of shoes though, but mostly flip flops.

I pack as little as possible.
I will bring clothes for sea days. Not just swim suits. Some days may be too cool for that. I usually try to have 1 warmer outfit (long pants, sweatshirt), then shorts and tops. Only 3
pairs of shoes for me, sometimes only 2 pair.

Since we will be gone 2 weeks I will have a bit extra and will wash them friday at WDW so all clean for the cruise.

Kathy

I made my FE!!! :cool1: I'm so excited by the way it came out!!!!

I used a cut up paper bag as the backing for the duct tape. And I used some left over mickey white decals I had from making the door magnets. Everything else is duct tape!
