November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

by the way, for all you experienced cruisers. What should we expect the weather to be like in Nov.? I've seen the avg temps but there are other factors in how the air feels. Should we pack pants/jackets? And yes, we are cold natured.

As you can see, by this being my 2nd post, I'm new to logging into disboards. But in an effort to decide whether or not to do FE's, does anyone object to homemade edibles?

Hi Kristi,
I have no problem with it. It's not like we are trick or treating to a strangers house. We know where to find you if we get  LOL!!

Just kidding:lmao:

I have had people give home made gifts whether it be edible or something tangible. I have done it myself.

There is no right or wrong to the FE. Everyone does what they want to do.

The drama of vacations begin:
I sent DH down to the post office with his replace passport form on wednesday only he forgot to sign it. so now we have to work out another day for him to go down and fix it. Except of course, this wednesday (usually his half day) he must go and give a presentation and starting next week he begins his surgical rotation (DH is 3rd year med student). That means 12 hr shifts and 6 day work weeks (why he needs a vacation at the end of all this) I told him if he doesn't get it fixed I'm going to bring someone else lol.
On top of that we got subpoenaed on saturday. Someone hit our car with a limousine bus back in oct and the police are charging him criminally so DH and I get off work to go testify. More opportunity to learn about our judicial system. Hopefully its more exciting then jury duty. But if we haven't go the passport form fixed by then i guess we'll sort it all at the end of the month when we testify.
Meanwhile i am bugging my parents and sister to join us on the cruise, we shall see.
I can't wait for vacation!

Winter is usually around 80 degrees on the islands but since it is the tropics we often get a rain shower at least once during the day, especially on St. Thomas.
But it is welcome due ot the heat.

Humidity is gone by November, so that is nice.
If you look it up you will see their temperatures all year around only vary about 5 to 10 degrees, it's just the humidity that makes it seem hotter in the summer.

Now on Castaway Cay the wind can be quite strong sometimes. So a few times we have needed long pants and light weight jackets for the morning but by afternoon it usually warms up enough that the coolness of the wind isn't a problem anymore. It feels good.

Evenings on the ship I usually need a sweater on my arms in the clubs or theater. It use to be the restaurants were cold but the seem to have fixed that.
But if you want to stroll the decks in the evening or mornings you will need something light weight on your arms and legs. I usually take one pair of jeans for evening and early mornings because we love to walk the decks then.

I also have a sweater or a wind breaker style jacket I wear. I only take one since that's the only times i need to wear them.

Of course once people see my lily white, jiggly jello legs they may ask me to put on my jeans:rotfl2::rotfl2:

My husband has a hectic schedule too, some times it is just impossible for him to get time off to take care of business. Luckily our passports are still good but we had to send off for one for our son.

Good luck with all that scheduling. Just don't wait until the last minute, we dont want you to miss the cruise do to no passport:headache:

The ship recognizes it as your birthday as long as its with in 30 days of the cruise.
So be sure and tell who ever you booked through and you should get a free mini cake delivered to your table at dinner one night, plus they will sing Happy Birthday to you. It use to be at the Guest Services desk they would give you a birthday pin to wear too.

Sometimes you need to remind your dining room manager a day ahead of time about the birthday celebration .

We have done this for birthdays and anniversaries a few times.

Gosh I am beginning to think I may be the oldest person on this cruise thread.

Oops. Felicia's mom is older than me. Thank goodness. Now I may only be the 2nd oldest person on our cruise thread:lmao:

Sorry Kathy - I will be turning 68 on 10/30 and my wife is younger than me by XX years. I am smart enough not to say my wifes age. DCL Cruise #9. We also have an 11:00 boarding as we are driving to terminal.

Looking to a DIS meet on board if we can set one up.

To the other Kathy who is getting married - we saw another wedding on the Aft deck 7 on our last 7 day cruise. We watched from Deck 8. (Don't spend a lot on a fancy hair do - it was quite windy back there)

Hi Phil,

We have a meet all set up. I didn't have an e-mail address to send it to you. It is too big a Cruise meets list to PM to people.

I have listed everyone on this cruise and a separate list for those wanting to do the FE.
If you either PM me you e-mail or e-mail it to me I will send you a list right away.
my e-mail is sixtoedfrog@yahoo.com

You'll notice I didn't list my age either. It's tough being 29 all these years. LOL!!!

Ouch! Running right into a metal pole... I hope you are feeling better! I know you know, Kathy, about my craziness with injuries and Disney (will tell others here), so let's not let any of that spread to anyone else here! :)

For others, I won't bore you with the small details, but this November will be our 4th cruise with Disney, and HOPEFULLY our very first cruise where someone in our family is not injured... we are hoping for a totally injury free cruise for all 4 of us. :)

To sum it up:

July 2009, DH broke his foot the DAY before our Disney trip (1 week at WDW and 7-day Western cruise)! He was in a wheel chair at WDW (can't do WDW on crutches), which actually ended up getting us to the front of all the lines, so it ended up working out to our benefit. haha. :rotfl: By the time we were on the cruise, he was just in a walking boot, and hobbling around pretty good.

Feb 2010: In a freak accident on the Disney Magic, I severaly injured my ankle half-way through our Eastern cruise. I wasn't able to do much after I injured my ankle.... didn't break anything, but completely severed a major ligaminet in my ankle, stretched some tendons and tore other tissues in my foot. But, our vacation went on, and we stilll had an awesome time regardless... if you're going to hurt yourself on vacation, Disney is probably the best place to be at... All the CM's were SOOOOO nice and helpful on the ship.

Dec 2010: Dec 31- Jan 21... 5 days planned at WDW, and 16 day Panama Canal cruise.... 2 weeks before we left, I fell on our concrete garage floor (long story!) and fractured my sacrum (big bone in lower back). Dr said I was so fortunate because I didn't need surgery... but long story short, couldn't do any rides at WDW, and had to walk very very slow on our cruise... BUT as always, stilll enjoyed our trip to the fullest! Woudl do the Panama Canal cruise again in the flash if they did it again!!

Basically, I'm one of those people who just rolls with the punches with what life gives you, and is optimisitic and still finds things to smile and be happy about no matter what.

So, I wanted to do the 7-day Eastern cruise for my 40th birthday this year to finally have an injury free cruise for everyone in our family, and be able to do everything I want to do on the cruise... including the Castaway 5K!!! I can't wait... I've never done it before (first cruises, I didn't know about it until after), 2nd and 3rd cruise, I was injured, so couldn't. (Ironically, though, on the Panama Canal cruise, we had to skip Castaway Cay because it was too windy to dock).

All is good... I am very careful always when I walk, go down stairs, everywhere, and so is DH and our kids...

Sooooo, that is why I joked about Kathy running into a pole! Funny thing is that sounds like something I would do myself! LOL!!!

So, now everyone knows why this cruise willl be EXTRA special for us... It has been a tough and painful 1 1/2 years of injuries for me, but I'm finally pain free, totally healed, and running again (hence my screen name), so I think I was just getting all my injuries out in my 38th and 39th year of my life and my 40's will be GREAT (turning 40 on Nov 10 on our cruise!! :woohoo:).

Take care,
Kathy

Our DD has done the 5K on every one of her cruises with us (6). Loves it, and you generally get a certificate when you are back on board. (Assuming you let them know when you sign up as opposed to simply showing up) Our dd, also runs the 5K, 10K and runs either the full or half marations at Disney. Me, I would rather watch them run, less tiring.

Wow, a lot of posts since I last checked! Hello to all the new posters! :wave2:

I'm Danielle (34--will be 35 by cruise time)
DH Mike (38)
DD Bella (6--will be 7 by cruise time)

I have booked an excursion for St. Maarten through a private tour. They assure me I'll get back to the ship on time, but I'm so nervous! If we get back to shore by 3:30/4:00, that should give us enough time to get back to the ship, right?
www.randomwind.com

If we book anything in St. Thomas, it will be through DCL, but now I'm concerned there won't be anything left! We are first time cruisers so we still have two weeks to go to be able to book!

Are there any Palo reservations left? My DH really wants to go there! And he wants a massage.

My DD is really looking forward to the Oceaners Lab. I saw there are are couple cruisers with girls my DD's age, are you planning on trying out the Club/Lab?

Danielle

We got a Palo brunch booked on the first day it was available, there was one time that was not available on any day, I suspect that DCL holds back times and dates for the new cruisers. On our last cruise in March, we needed to change times, as soon as we got on board we went to the location where you can get reservation for Palo etc. I forget its name, and there was no problem in getting it changed. So I suspect that there are additional tables hold back for that.

On a prior cruise a couple at our table went running past us and said that they just got a voice mail call from PALO that there was a cancellation and they were next on the wait list so they had to run and get a change of clothes. WAIT LIST??? Why didn't I think of that.

Good luck, Phil

Phil

Good Morning All,
Great to see more pictures, wow 21 months a part...

Meghan loves coloring her hair different colors... She is a girly girl. Sean is like the other boys, planes, trains and automobile type of kid. Hopefully more pictures will be posted, love to see everyone.

I can't book any excursions till August 22 (boo!) Still all new to this... Plus I am a little sad that we got second seating for dinner as it was booked the first seating... Help any idea what we can do, don't think my kids will want to eat at 8:15p... I am a little upset at this...

As for the kid labs, hope my kids like it... I don't think they will want to stay if it is too young either...

For the FE my sister (darcie) and Dennis's(5) cabin number is 6315
Thanks for listening... LOL
Tanya

Flygirl - In an earlier post I said that we changed our Palo reses, this was due to us changing our dinner times. You can also request a change from second to first at that location. We killed two birds at the same time.

Good Luck - Phil

Hi never posted on dis boards (read it for info all the time) before but thought it might be fun. Just booked this cruise for dh and I and couldn't be more excited. Hoping my sister and parents will join us but that depends on other factors for now. My family is big into Disney, I did a college internship there with my sister, she stayed and works in magic kingdom. We go to Disney every year (my poor husband) but this is our first Disney cruise. We got married two years ago on a carnival ship, but I think we'll like Disney better. Still 12 more days tell I can book excursions, hoping the goods ones don't fill up. Any ideas on what is interesting for adults, okay swimmers, no long bus rides (I get sick) would be welcome. Thanks!

Funny, our DD was in the college program for 2 years, called one night and said she got a full time job offer from disney and wasn't coming home. That was 10 years ago!

Phil,
that great your DD loves working a WDW.
Our youngest son worked there for awhile years ago when we lived in Florida.

Getting married there would really be great. Hope alll goes well for them.

Hi All...
Just wanted to stop by today. Sean has been really sick with a flu bug and fever. I just can't break it... Plus he HATES taking meds on a good day. Hope Meghan or I don't get it next. Missed today of work but hope to return back tomorrow.

Sorry to hear Sean is ill today. Hope his fever breaks soon and he will be back to 100% soon.
Take care and you get some rest so you don't get it too:)

Wow busy weekend of posting.
I'm going to break this up into two posts to keep my count up.
So it is MONDAY and still one more week before i can do anything online. Oh well.
I loved all the pictures! Lyn it looks like your husband is really tight with the Mouse in charge! Kathy: the pics of the food look delicious! Sorry to hear about the lost wallet
Sounds like everyone's weekend was eventful. I spent mine battling the ants invading my house. Despite nice dark clouds and lots of thunder, not one drop of rain hit my property, and so the drought in texas continues. The ants are invading after water and i have found it impossible to kill them all. I've decided that drought is worse than flooding at least for me. (although it is close)
Alyssa

I just went through an ant infestation as well! Have you tried Terro liquid traps? They worked overnight for me after I had been battling with them for 2 weeks. Sorry to hear that you are in TX with the drought :(

Thanks Phil! That would be nice if DCL did hold some spots for newbies. I'll be up at 12:00 on 8/22 with my coffee hoping to land a reservation. You know something just dawned on me....I was always thinking it was Monday that I was going to have to stay up, but is it actually Sun night? and at midnight (when it becomes 8/22) that's when I can start reserving things??

Morning all,
Hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Should be a quiet day here today, so I will try and find a few more cruise photos to post. I hope more of you will post photos too. I love seeing everyone.

Everyone has such cute kids. I miss having mine be little.
I guess since my adult son Peter is coming i could post a photo of him too. I think I have some from last Junes camping trip.

Hope Sean is better today. Sending him oodles of magical pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust: to get better soon.

Back later,
Kathy
