November 3, 2012 - Election Escape Eastern!!

Well best of luck to you, I am doing Weight Watchers also.

I am totally planning to do the 5K on Castaway Cay and trying to walk/run on the ship just a little bit.

Final goal is to run the Tinkerbell and Princess 1/2 marathons in 2013.

My mom, sister & I are planning on the castaway cay 5k as well! Can't wait! They are down in WDW right now for tomorrows 1/2 marathon. :)

We did the 5K on one of our cruises last summer. Our DIS group designed tees and we all started off together, some walking and some running. We had an awesome time and the ship gave us all certificates for participating!

I did the 5K on our cruise too. Would love to do it again! I think the t-shirt idea is awesome!! We should do that too!!

I might consider the 5K! I ran the WDW marathon in 2010 and really jacked up my foot during training. Never been the same since. I so miss running tho!

Hello all!

My husband and I just moved our cruise back a bit from the old Wine and Dine 1/2 race dates to this cruise so we can do the race! Hopefully they don't change anything again because there is no way we can pay the "late booking" tax again!

Our cast is very small... just me, Shanna 29 and my husband Kyle, also 29! We will both be 30 by the time of the cruise though and it will be just after our first wedding anniversary so we can still say it counts as a celebration, right?! We will be in stateroom 6174 - even though we booked GTY we already got our #, probably because of the noise of docking no one wanted it... but hay, we are young, have earplugs and got a good price!

I admit I laughed my tush off when I saw the graphic on the first page, you are all awesome and I bet we will have a wonderful cruise!

We will both definitely be doing the 5K on CC - if for no other reason than staying limber for the 1/2 the night we disembark! Are there any other crazies here who think its a great idea?! :lmao:

I asked to join the facebook group as well! Cheers!

Well, when I did the marathon it was 1/2 into our "vacation"-- it was hard to relax beforehand but I had 9 years on you! ( and other than my year training, very little race experience!) If you are runners, you'll be golden!:thumbsup2

LOL--only thing crossing my mind is that my entire family was *so chill* after our cruise I can't imagine going out to PR or anything! The "chill" lasted for months!

OMG you are going to run a 1/2 marathon after the cruise, aren't you worried you will have to spend the cruise training for the 1/2 marathon?

I know that normally when I get off the cruise I am too lazy to want to do anything. But now that you put this thought in my mind I may want to run this instead of doing the princess 1/2 marathon in the spring....hmmm

I just got my new running shoes and have started running (although 100 pounds overweight I'm a little slow) I'm excited I was wearing vibram five fingers before I gained all the weight from a mixture of sickness/injury and having nose surgery (who knew you couldn't run or exercise for 6 weeks after) but now I have the new balance minumis and love them so comfortable same idea as the five fingers but the toes aren't seperated out.

Happy New Year to all of you!!!!:thumbsup2 I am so glad that we are finally in our cruise year!

I am in such dire need of vacation, that this cruise can't come fast enough.... :scared1: Hopefully, we'll have more folks joining us soon!

Here is to a Happy Healthy and Prosperous 2012~~~:cheer2:

Haha, no, we are in the same boat! :lmao: All I really want to do is run enough for fitness (2-3 miles 3x a week is about 30 minutes for us, we do run/walk/run/walk but Im trying to get more into RUNRUNRUN/walk...) We are doing the Tink on the 29th of this month so we will see how THAT goes! We did an 11.5 mile on treadmills Monday though, so if we can survive that I bet we will be fine! The only other race I have ever done is the 5K in Disneyland in 2010.. ^^;; It was so fun though, and I just couldn't resist doing another one. The Tink race is only 3 days after I turn 30, so what better way to celebrate than by being healthy?!

My husband is a bit worried about that for sure! but we have been doing the Galloway prep plan; you only do a long run every two weeks. Other than that, its two 30 min runs a week and one 3 mile run on the week you are not doing a long run. So really, we'll just need to run 2x on the ship and do CC - and SURELY that means one extra snack/drink/desert each day we do so, right? :goodvibes I am glad the exercise room looks lovely with their huge windows! When we were on the Dream we had heard you could run on a deck but it ended up being the SMOKING deck! Asthma hits us with smoke (I will usually get a bad migraine to boot) so that just wouldnt work...

I had never heard of minumis before... the ones I see online look super cute! I have just generic looking white sneakers - Saucony Omni's - but they only have 400 or so miles on them. If I want new shoes I will have to wear these out first!

I am glad your surgery seems to have gone well and that you are able to get back into the swing of it! My husband wants to lose another 30-40 as well; these races are great fun and a way to keep motivated for sure.

I did Galloway, too! :cheer2::cheer2: Good on you on the long treadmill (dreadmill) run! Funny story--I was trying to prep for a warm/humid FLA marathon so I did 20mi in our gym. I alternated 5 mi on the tread mil, 5 mi around the 1/8 track(40 times!!) back and forth.

Good luck training!

Let me know how you like the Tink 1/2 marathon, I want to run that one next year to get the coast to coast medal.

The minumis is a barefoot running shoe, same as vibram five fingers. They are super comfortable but offer zero support or cushion. They take awhile to get use to, as a matter of fact both shoes come with a warning to break them in slowly.

But I will tell you:
1) my archs are back where they belong and my foot has never been stronger
2) when we go to the local amusement park (Kings Domionion) I am the only in the family whos feet don't hurt at the end of the day and I am only wearing a glove on my foot and they all have nice cushy cross trainers
3) they are not heavy
4) I ran almost every day I was in Iraq, 4 months into it the DR told me to stop/learn to run differently or I would need a new hip as I heal strike so badly that it was causing damage to my hip- barefoot running forces me to stop heal striking
5) these shoes on average last runners through their entire training for a full marathon and the marathon that's way more than regular running shoes since you don't have to worry about the internal mechanism in the shoe wearing out.

There is a lot of conflicting research about barefoot running, I say your running style is yours so it doesn't matter the research. I think I like these best because they remind me of track shoes but for the street.

BEST OF LUCK at the Tinkerbell run:cheer2:

Got up to watch the float out at 5Am and they moved it back an hour from 11 to noon, AGH I could have slept for an extra hour.

I guess I will stay up and watch the float out at 6 am.

Might as well watch the boats come into Port Canaveral as well.

Sorry for the many posts this is what happens when you are on the computer for 3 1/2 hrs waiting and then watching the float out

Last one for awhile (which I only promise will be at least 15 mins)

Just some info on what's next for our new cruise ship

At approximately 5 am EST on Sunday, January 8, she will slowly be floated out of the building, into the harbor for a few tests.

Final touches on the ship’s construction, such as the installation of the mast, will be performed while she is berthed at the yard’s pier. Two weeks later, she is expected to be conveyed to the North Sea via the River Ems. She will then officially be delivered to Disney Cruise Line on February 9 in Bremerhaven.

From there, it’s a Transatlantic voyage in which her first stop is Pier 88 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York City (12th Ave. & 55th St.), where she is scheduled to be berthed from February 28 through March 2,

THANK YOU DISNEY FOR BEING SO SAFE

The account of what happened in this story is amazing, as one passenger said it was like the Titanic.

http://news.yahoo.com/ship-aground-off-italy-3-bodies-found-69-134340580.html

I just have to say as much as we might not care to do the evacuation drill I thank god that Disney is so concerned about safety. Many times I see them tell kids to stop running in the halls and this and that...

The thought that they didn't even do a drill is horrible, for anyone who thinks twice about going on a cruise after this should if they go on a cruise that doesn't even do safety drills.

"No one counted us, neither in the life boats nor on land," said Ophelie Gondelle, 28, a French military officer from Marseille. She said there had been no evacuation drill since she boarded in Marseille, France on Jan. 8.
