November 24, 2012 ~ Western Fantasy ~ Pachyderms of the Caribbean

We are from Brewer Maine. Landon will be turning 8 in Septemeber. On our last cruise we had a hard time getting the boys out of the kids camp (especially Landon) I am very happy to finally go on DCL. My husband loves to cruise but he was a hard sell to try Disney (more ex*****ive)

It is more expensive but well worth it. When I was on my last Disney cruise, people that I was talking to said that it was their 8th. The reason why Disney is the best in their opinion is that Disney allows up to pay what ever tip we want to give our people in the end. The others add it to their bill, so because the staff knows that, they don't have to keep it perfect like Disney does. It is so well worth the extra money paid. He will see.

Anyone looking for a hotel on the 23rd. I just booked the Ron Jon Caribbe Resort for $104.00 on travelocity. Hopefully we can get early enough flight out to enjoy the waterpark. We are waiting for Southwest to publish rates.

Flying out of Philadelphia. No greta airfare yet, but southwest has not released thiers that far our yet.

FYI... I got a rate of $215 per person on Delta out of Philadelphia. We are leaving on Thanksgiving Day and I think the rate is the same for the day after as well. I was afraid to wait for Southwest and also the Frontier out of Allentown. Thought I would let you know.

Thanks. I saw that flight but it has a long stopover. With the 2 year old we are really wanting a nonstop. Hoping southwest releases flights soon.

Welcome to all the new joiners!
Our TA just got back to us on our hotels. Radisson at the Port $120 for the night. We love this hotel simply because of the fantastic swimming pool but we might end up at the Mariott Residence Inn because we're travelling with the in-laws so we'd need two rooms at the Radisson whereas we can get a 2 bedroom suite (2 Kings in separate rooms plus pull out couch which is perfect for the 5 of us) at the Residence Inn for $199 for the night. That is going to include hot breakfast buffets for all of us, which we would have to pay for at the Radisson).

We always walk across to Mcdonalds from Radisson for a quickie breakfast morning of cruise since we eat a big lunch on the ship soon as we board! :thumbsup2

The flight down is only a 35 minute layover and on the way back it is an hour. Both layovers in LGA, New York. I know the one that you were talking about, it was about a 3 hour layover and there was not way that I was going to sit in an airport for that long. Hope you find great cheap flights.

Good Morning Cruisers!

We have been busy planning a short spring break getaway to Chicago so we have not been focused too much on cruise planning just yet but I know it will be here before I realize it. I think the Fantasy returns tomorrow from it's first 7 day training run and I am hoping we get to see lots of pictures. Seeing pictures of the ship will make it seem more 'real' I think.

I have been busy looking over disboards have learned alot already. We are interested in FE we do not know our cabin number yet. I love the idea of bringing pillow cases for character signatures (my boys are getting a little old for this) but I think it will be a neat souvenir. Last year they had baseball hats sighned at Chef Mickey.

Because my kids are 9 and 11, I had done the picture frame mat. I gave the mat and sharpie markers to the front desk. On the last night of our cruise, they dropped it off with all the character signatures on it. It was awesome! Now everytime I look at the frame with a picture from our trip, it brings back great memories.

we purchased the 9'' vinylmation mickey (black) and will get the signatures in metallic silver or white markers for our mantle since it's just us two...

we also got our 'bon voyage, welcome aboard' cruise docs in the mail yesterday with our confirmation number etc... makes it all seem a little more real to have mail from mickey :)

I like the mat idea, what did you find that worked best for packing, to prevent bending? Did you reinforce it in your suitcase with anything special? Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

I actually had it in the front of my luggage. It was flat and in its own compartment. It worked out fine and not bent. It was a great idea but the only thing that you need to decide is when they sign it, which way do you want it to go. Most of my pictures are horizontal and they signed it all vertical which made it hard to find a picture that way. I will be doing it again. The pillow case is nice but not practical for my family since my kids are older. Love the idea though.

Thanks for the awesome info Jennifer, the folks were over yesterday and they are all over this as we are. All that's left now is to figure out the mat size, color and marker color. Anyone got stories of what looks really good and not so good with regards to the markers?

I would like to add a comment here about the signatures . . .

When we cruised in 2009, there was a family that we saw at the Philly Airport waiting for luggage with us (it was a looooooooooonnnnng wait - but it did finally arrive) - and they had baseball hats on. I was talking the mother of the group and she said that she put each hat in a separate baggy with a note saying who they would like to sign on that hat and what colors they would like used. The little girl wanted only princesses, and of course the little boy didn't want any of them to sign his hat.

Just another level of thought that you might want to put into your item . . .

It's been a while since I checked in here - WOW there's been a lot of activity!

I need to update some of my info -
Schneider21, DH, DW, DS(14), DS(12), DD(6 - and ALL princess!)
Rm. 10164, 10166

it's our third cruise - having already done short cruises on the Dream and Wonder.
and Fish Extender? yes please!

That is where I will be flying out of also. The best fare that I saw was for $211 leaving on the 23rd of Nov. But the downside is that there is a 3 hour layover in LGA airport. Let me know if you get something better.

Frontier is flying (non-stop) from Harrisburg to Orlando starting in May.
Rates aren't released that far out yet, but it looks like it'll be around $89/pp.
