November 24, 2012 ~ Western Fantasy ~ Pachyderms of the Caribbean

i think - and don't quote me on it - but i think pachyderm in this case resulted from elephants, and references dumbo specifically, ie dumbo would be our mascot on our logo/tshirts/etc. my baby cousin calls them trunk-e-phants instead of elephants. too cute.

i love the pachyderm of the caribbean title... a little swashbuckling dumbo sounds just cute enough for me.

i like the idea of a vote for a title - and one in the next month or so sounds about right.

i also like the idea of cutting off FE joining dates around the 6 weeks prior mark, and making smaller FE groups -- and on a practical note, it might help to cut down on expenses for those who might not have $$$ to spend on supplies/gifts etc.

just my thoughts. we haven't booked our cruise yet, as we're still working out logistics, however we are definitely coming on this one, so count us in for both dismeet activities and FE groups!! so excited

This was in the Orlando Sentinel today - and Lou Mongello announced it on Fox 35 News yesterday

Disney World is holding a new kind of marathon this year. For the first time, its Magic Kingdom theme park will be open for business for 24 consecutive hours. Guests will be welcome from 6 a.m. on Feb. 29 to 6 a.m. on March 1. The leap-day news was made public Saturday evening during "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest" telecast on Disney-owned ABC.

The promotion, called "One More Disney Day," revolves around the idea that there is an extra day of theme parking in a leap year. Disneyland Park in California also will operate for 24 consecutive hours that day.

awww. if only i didn't have a 14hr flight to get there, i'd seriously consider going to disney for this. hope anyone who goes has a fabulous, fabulous time.

Should be quite interesting. The people on the news broadcast were thinking that not too many people would be there in the wee hours popcorn::

Ahoy! Please add our family to the list; we are definitely interested in participating in the FE.
Mark
Jen (DW)
Madi (DD - will be turning 6 during the cruise)
We're from London, Ontario, Canada.

Looking forward to another magical cruise.

Who knew there could be a hidden Mickey during the Pirates In The Caribbean fireworks?

This is from the "Disney Blog"

There are plenty of Disneyland events that longtime Disney theme parks fans remember fondly (no, the Light Magic ‘premier’ isn’t one of them). One of the most talked about events, even today, is the 60-hour event for the 1987 opening of Star Tours at Disneyland. Much fun and little sleep was had by most of the participants and fans have been clamoring for a repeat ever since.

This year Disney is answering those calls and bringing back the extra-hours party with 24 hours of fun at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. The day they’ve chosen to hold this event is appropriately the ‘extra day’ of 2012, February 29th. Yep, it’s a leap year.

For the first time ever, both the Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park will stay open for 24 hours straight as part of a bi-coastal salute called “One More Disney Day.” From 6 a.m., February 29 to 6 a.m., March 1, 2012, local time, guests can fill the extra day of leap year with a marathon of Disney magic and fun.*

And for 60 days straight – from Jan. 1, 2012 to Feb. 29, 2012 – a daily winner will be chosen in the “Disney Parks One More Disney Day Sweepstakes” to receive a Disney Parks vacation. One entrant each day will win a vacation for four to make memories at either Disneyland Resort in California or Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.**

For the past year, Disney Parks has invited guests to “let the memories begin,” noted Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

“We’re honored that so many guests have shared their Disney memories with us as part of ‘Let the Memories Begin’, and I’m pleased to announce that the campaign will continue throughout 2012,” Staggs said. “To celebrate, for the first time ever, the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Parks will remain open for 24 hours on Leap Day, so that our guests can take advantage of every minute of their extra day to make memories with friends and family.”

Just to clear up on the whole Pachyderm title:

The reason for all the elephant references is because The Disney Fantasy features Dumbo painting the name Fantasy on the back of the ship.

The "Pyramid of Pachyderms" name is a direct quote from the film.

The "Pachyderms of the Caribbean" is (duh!) a reference to Pirates of the Caribbean with a little Dumbo thrown in. lol

Just imagine Dumbo with a little pirate's hat holding one of those swashbuckling pirate swords instead of the magic feather.... How cute is that? lol:rotfl2:

- Had a different pic here - it was Dumbo with Mickey ears - then Uziel5000 and Alicia explained what Dumbo they are talking about - found that one - see the next posts

that's exactly what i was thinking in my head too!!! ... dumbo with an eye patch and holding a sword instead of the feather -- that's exactly how i explained it to carlo last night when telling him i'd signed us up for DISmeets and FE gifts and that dumbo was a possible mascot :)

OK - here is one with a feather and his mouse pal on it. Now - all it needs is the sword instead of the feather and a patch as Alicia described. Worked on it - see the next post

Happy New Year Everyone!! I'm so happy that we can now say we are cruising twice this year!!

I have just updated the "roll call" here:
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40085412&postcount=3

If everyone could review their information I would appreciate it! The updates today were for:

Since we should hopefully start being more chatty, there are a few things we should start to think about/discuss. . .

What would we like to name our cruise?
The current suggestions are:
disneybride96 suggests “Christmas Season Kickoff ”

trinibjill suggests “The Fantasy Swashbucklers of the Caribbean”

ruley3 suggests “Pyramid of Pachyderms”
When should the deadline be for deciding on a Cruise name?
Since people are starting to find us now, perhaps we could create a vote the week of 2/6/2012? We would still have lots of time to create a logo with our official name . . .
Who would be interested in joining a FE?
I am currently marking people considering it with a "(FE)" Next to their name on the roll call. If you are interested in joining the FE, it woudl be helpful if you gave your stateroom number. If you prefer to only give it out privately, you can wait until the official list has been created.
When should the deadline be to sign up for the FE be?
Typically, people that are making/ordering something to distribute like to have at least a month to work on their items, making the sign-up date be 10/24/2012.

Do we want to have a limit for the FE group?
I know each cruise handles this different. In the past I have been in groups where once the list hit 30, we were broken down to groups of 15. Also, there have been times where some people like to have one large group.

I think limiting the FE's to a certain amount is better. Last time when I did it, I had just suitcase with the gifts for the rooms that I had to carry on the plane. Also the 6 week in advance is good to stop and make the groups.

Thanks so much for taking care of this. It is awesome!

OK - I fixed the patch - Is this what we want?

that looks adorable -- thank you for the work you have put into making this... i was going to ask one of the DISigners, but you have some skillz - definitely more than i do :)

pirate patch guy in keeping with the theme -- although his patch is a little different pirate:

told carlo that dumbo is the disney character on the back of the fantasy... if we weren't planning on taking this cruise before, i guarantee that would have sealed the deal... his eyes lit up!

i'm loving the logos and pics of a swashbuckling dumbo!!
