August is the usual time for Nov. discout releases. It would be great to see them before hand though. :goodvibes

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes

Good morning! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I ordered DD the Hidden Mickey book to put in her Disney surprise bag, and I ordered DS the Disney Encyclopedia of Characters for his. I need to find a couple plushes, but I'm not sure what characters to get them. DS would love one of the Lighting McQueen pillow pets, but I don't know what to get DD.

We've decided on dates for our family trip: Nov. 22 - 28! It will be our sons first trip and my daughters second. DS will be 11 and DD is 17 - they are sooo over the moon!:yay:

My sister and her family gave us the trip for Christmas - so we're working with a decent budget - only a couple things we HAVE to do.lol We have to get a dining plan and we have to do at least ONE character dining. We're hoping for FD so we can upgrade to either two rooms, a family suite or a moderate resort. Right now we're looking at a value resort - I think it will be tight for the 4 of us as it's pretty much 3 adults and the child (almost as tall as me already!).

We just got our first email from Disney, we haven't booked yet, I've gotten several better prices when I've redone the trips...so I'm holding out a bit.:cheer2:

Yay!!! :cool1::cool1: What a wonderful gift! :goodvibes Your children are at great ages to really help you plan, and give their input. I'm sure you are going to have a fabulous trip! :wizard:

HI and welcome!! :) Good to know we have more and more joining us in November. We are also booked at a value resort. Since it's just the 2 of us and we spend little time in the room, it works out for the better. Big bang for our buck and all that. A few years back, a friend of mine was at WDW (Pop Century) with her husband and their 2 pre-teen kids. They found it a bit of a squeeze. You might want to consider a family suite at the All Star Music or Art of Animation. If I'm not wrong, you'll get 2 bathrooms! Another alternative is booking 2 standard rooms. Just be sure to request for connecting rooms. I wish you all the best in your planning! It's almost as much fun as actually being at WDW. :goodvibes:love:

November is so far away! How ever will I pass the time? Even my ADR window is an eternity from now!

That is hilarious, because I looked at your ticker/numbers today, and thought...I will just watch hers and when she gets close to 180, I will start my ticker then!:rotfl: I know it seems foreeeeeever....I have a few things going on here this Spring/Summer that will help me pass the time,..after that, I just don't know! LOL!!!
Well, I am lying,..of course I do,..our #1 goal will be not to roast this summer--we are in Texas and last summer was enough to do us in. It was so hot we didn't even use our pool as much--now, when it's too hot to even go out to get in the pool...that's HOT!!!! We have had a lot of rain so far in 2012, so hopefully our summer will be a little better this year---by this time last year we were already several inches behind, but thankfully we are getting tons of rain!

Hi everyone! It's Girl Scout cookie delivery time around here so we've been busy with those. My living room floor is covered with GS cookie boxes! Soooo dangerous to the gotta-lose-some-weight-before-Disney diet.

I have a question for those of you from the DFW area. It's been 10 years since I lived in the area, and DD and I are going to Dallas for her birthday in July. I'd like to take her somewhere nice and/or fun for her birthday dinner. She'll be 7, and she loves Italian and Mexican food. She doesn't care for chicken tenders (unless it's McD's), mac n cheese, or burgers. I was thinking about a fun Mexican or Italian restaurant, but am looking for any suggestions. As long as it's not something like Chuck E Cheese. I loathe that place.

Also, we are going to the American Girl doll store, and Sam Moon (she'll love that place), but other than that, we really don't have any plans. It's just a quick weekend trip... fly in Thursday at noon and fly out Sat at noon, but I'd like to find some neat stores she would enjoy (she loves shopping) or something else fun for her to do. Any suggestions?

Welcome to all the newbies!! and WOW! at all the PINs. That's awesome! I think Disney has a "NO PIN ALLOWED" on my account or something! LOL! It's fine. I'm hoping for FD anyway!
If you are going to the American Doll store anyways, then try Grand lux at the Galleria- it is right there near American Doll store inside the Galleria. It is owned by Cheesecake factory and has a HUGE menu. Plus fabulous desserts. Check them out online. Of course the Galleria should have a ton of great stores for her to check out.

There is also Grapevine Mills Mall, near DFW airport. It has a Rainforest Cafe which is fun! Plus it has a Disney outlet store which is fabulous and often carries lots of park stuff- for some reason they tend to have a ton of Disneyland shirts every time I go, but also some WDW stuff too- mainly shirts/sweatshirts. They also now have a new Lego Activity Center which has a ride (where you shoot stuff like TSM), building activities, dress up area, playground etc. There is also a new Sea Life aquarium in the mall too. So tons to do there.

If you are looking for something more fun- there is also a Gattitown in Frisco, near Stonebriar Mall (which has an ice skating rink, caraousel, Disney Store etc.)- Gattitown is much nicer than Chuck e Cheese (which I loathe as well!!!)- it has rooms where you can eat and watch movies like a movie theatre, tons of games and fun too. My 4yo loves it as does my 8yo niece. There is tons of shopping there at the mall and right outside too. It's a super nice mall and one of the best in the area I think. Sam Moon is right there outside of it. There is also the original Sam moon down near Harry Hines in Dallas.

Hi Everyone! Still waiting for a discount.. I'm getting very antsy!! ;)

Do we have dates yet for Osborne Lights, MVMCP or F&W festival for this year yet? Also when is the earliest we can anticipate the Castle Dream lights to be up? Thank you in advance !:goodvibes

  • MVMCP- first one rumored to be on November 7th
  • F&W Festival - ends on Sunday, Nov 11th when Epcot closes
  • Osborne Lights- I believe these are up by like the third week of October. In 2011, they were actually running by November 10th.
  • Castle Dream Lights- started November 8th last year ( for first MVMCP- so assume that week)
  • Hotel decor- usually the week before Thanksgiving
  • Park decor- usually all park decor is up (with the exception of the tree in MK, which I think goes up for the parade taping first week of Dec)- by that second week of November I think.

We are going Nov 2-11 but I haven't decided where we are staying yet. Hoping for a pin or free dining. Also considering rentivg dvc. Earlier in the post someone said to call and ask about pins. Is it possible one is associated with my name and no email or snail mail?
Yes, you can call and just ask them to check if there is a PIN attached to your name (or anyone in your family that is going). YOu could have missed an email or something easily, so definitely can't hurt to call!

What resort are you considering? What about character meals- any special characters your kids like the most? We could make some recommendations for you. :wizard::wizard:

I found something to do.

I've never made a room request before, but I think I will be this time. I have been pondering it for a couple of days now, and I think I've narrowed it down.

Is it better to request the specific area and then the "why," or tell them what you're looking for and then specify the specific place? I would have called already, but since reservations is down this morning, I have more time to deliberate.

Anyone got any knowledge or experience in room requests?

thats a good one to be thinking of.......hmmm what room should I request for POR party of 5, I know they only have a certain section for 5, any suggestions from anyone?

I'm in Texas, too... Houston to be exact. I know what you mean about being too hot to swim! It was a swelteringly hot and humid summer here, and it often deterred me from walking to my car to go to the store - forget spending any amount of time outside! I'm hoping our mild winter will be followed up by a mild summer... I'm the eternal optimist.

I need some suggestions... I've talked DH into considering a November trip but I have to keep it from breaking the bank so I need a discount or the best option would be free dining. The dining plan is key for us so I don't have to hear him complain about the price on EVERY menu at EVERY meal. :goodvibes

Our last trip was at Easter 3 years ago and while it was crowded, I thought we made out fine so Thanksgiving doesn't scare me, but we can be flexible with the dates to some degree.

I was looking at POR because of the family of 5 issue.

Do I book now and hope for a discount? I keep getting emails from Disney Destinations but they are for spring. What would be my best bet for reserving and a discount code coming along?

TIA!

They don't care about the WHY, unless it is a medical reason and usually then you need a handicap room anyhow. But otherwise, they don't care about the why really. Before we became DVC, we faxed our requests about a week out and then called to follow up and ensure they got them. YOu also want to call (now) and have them noted on your reservation. So I would do both.

The simpler you are, the better your chances. also- put FIRST whatever is most important. so do your requests in order of priority- if you want first floor more than you want a certain building etc. Don't get too specific like a certain room #, i hear that gets hard. You can be broad too if you don't have a certain floor or building request- like maybe close to elevator, close to pool etc.

Also- I've found that if I didn't get our request when I check in, it doesn't hurt to ask......ask if they have something else available instead. Last December 2010, I had asked for high floor, even numbered at BLT (even numbered tend to have better luck getting an MK view)----when i checked in, they had me on like the 4th floor. I asked if they had anything higher and they moved us. So don't be afraid to ask at check in if you don't get what you want......all they can say is no.

at POR, we always like requesting Alligator Bayou 14 or 15, it was near the food court/main buildings. I did recently read that due to the refurbishment of POR rooms, they will no longer have the trundle bed (they are changing to queen beds now, vs full). They will have a bed that folds out of the bench instead.
pohg4npa80s3c3.jpg

here is what I found on the new change
So YES, the fifth person bed option IS staying, but not as a trundle bed (as they won't fit with the new queen beds). The new option will be a fold-down bed which is actually slightly bigger than the current trundle beds, and it will allow smaller adults to use it rather than just kids. It will be located on the wall, beneath the new flat-screen television (which will also be wall-mounted) and will fold down on top of a lower, wider drawer unit. Princess and the Frog fans will spot some fun themed details on the inside of the new fold-down unit and also on the comforter pillows on the main queen beds. Oh, and AB fans will love to hear that the existing floor tiling in the bathroom and vanity areas will be staying, as it was only installed fairly recently. The general rustic concept will be staying too, but "on steroids" as one resort manager commented.

On the downside, one other thing that I learned it that the option to have an extra roll-away bed brought into the other areas (Magnolia Bend and French Quarter) will no longer be available with the queen beds, meaning that Alligator Bayou will be the ONLY option for families of five. There will also definitely be no King Bed rooms available in the new Royal Room areas (which we already knew from the booking site). __________________

The summers are killer! I am in Dallas (well Plano, just north of DFW). I know Houston is even worse.

I would book now, especially if you want Thanksgiving week, it will book up fast. If a discount comes out, you can apply it to your ressie. :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone! I'm booked at the WL and would love to stay there but am second (third and fourth) guessing the extra expense. I want it all and I want it affordable. Why can't I have it? :lmao: Seriously though I am considering switching to a less expensive resort. Comments welcome :thumbsup2

well hello sister! We are neighbors...I am about an hour and a half, to two hours NE of you! I usually make it to the IAH airport in an hour and a half on beltway 8 if there is no traffic! ....remind me what resort you are doing and how many are in your party....if you have older kids or a party of 5, at the Poly, request the TOKELAU longhouse...the rooms are huge! View is okay,..at the far, far end closer to the beach, we were the room 2nd from the end, so we would go out that last door and be right at the beach...there is a little pathway there where we watched a wedding! then just to the right of the stairs is a diff little pathway that deadends into the beach with a hammock...it's a small little area, not the side that is close to the pool..it was an okay view, but we didnt want to pay for a water view so it was perfect-we got to see it anyway!....and I too am hoping for a milder summer!

I agree that you should go ahead and book it..that will be a week people will plan for since its the only time some can go..you only have to pay for that one night or whatever, and when any codes/pins come along call them and they can adjust it for you. If you can handle Easter, i am sure you can handle Turkey day! :rotfl: If we don't do a Deluxe this year due to finances, we would def be at the PORiverside..I looooove the new Royal rooms! Not sure if a discount would even apply or if a party of 5 fits in that specific room, but it sure it pretty!

Well,...how many are gonna be in your party?older kids, little kids? is the WL what you would consider super expensive? Have you looked into the Garden Wing rooms at the CR? Or a mod? Or the new Art of Animation..and maybe a Family Suite at the All Stars? What is your comfort range and we can help you out! I personally, have stayed at all the deluxes (at least one night!) except the Animal Lodge....

I did that last year. I was booked in a TPV at the Poly and spent MONTHS feeling guilty about the expense. I finally decided that I was just going to change it to something more reasonable. I called and changed it, and regretted it almost immediately. I called back and there was NOTHING available at the Poly.

In retrospect, it wasn't the best year for a splurge resort, and it was the right decision to downgrade. I still had a great vacation, but I'm embarrassed to admit that I did shed a tear while I reworked our plans for the new resort. My husband thought that I had totally lost it!

I am trying to decide what's more important to me: a room close to the GCH with a balcony, or any room in Fiji Longhouse.

If a balcony is available and doesn't cost more, then I want it! But I like the views in Fiji.

Would it be better to have a room with a nice view and a location that sounds great, or a room with no balcony and a so-so view?

I like the idea of a place to have morning coffee, and a place to stash wet ponchos or the stroller, but would I actually do any of those things?

When I look back on our WDW trips, I'm surprised to say that we've never actually had a room with a balcony. Weird as it, that's just the way it's worked out. So maybe the balcony is really no big deal?

I am planning a lot more resort time this year than ever before, as I've decided this will be our first year traveling without park hoppers. With a split stay, I can arrange our park days to take advantage of geography and transportation advantages, and it seems so much more relaxing not to hop!

So I continue to deliberate.

I love it! It seems that Texans love WDW in the Fall!

There are five of us, and we are at the Poly. (Yay!) I was looking at Tokelau, because I thought it might be nice to be sort of midway between the GCH and TTC. But we're concentrating on MK while we are there, with lots of resort time, so I started to think that being close to the GCH and Boat Launch might be better. I read a description of Fiji, liked the idea of overlooking a beach or the Marina for the price of a Garden View.

I think we'd probably enjoy any room in the resort - I've never read about anyone not liking their Longhouse. It could be interesting to just let Disney decide - we've never really worried about where we were going to end up! But something about the Poly makes me feel like I have to pick a longhouse!

Royal Rooms were eligible for my 30% Pin code, but they were not an option for my party of five.
