November 2, 2013 - Disney Fantasy 7 night Eastern - Cruise Meet

Yeah other CA residents! How lucky to be going out to Hawaii!

I was just looking at the excursions offered by Disney and so far none of them are wowwing me. Hopefully we'll get some great tips from experienced travelers.

We're excited to be visiting the Big Island for the first time.

Nothing was thrilling me either and we'll have our niece and nephew with us so I'm thinking of a private tour in St. Maarten to site see around the island and end with a little beach time for the kids.

Welcome, Jane. We're glad to have you. I'll get the invite sent out. I'm assuming the "2 Eagles" refers to your two boys having their Eagle Scout? If so, we have something else in common as our son has his Eagle as well.

Can't wait to see your AC themed FE. We tried to get connected to the WDW Radio group but it didn't work out.

See you on FB.

Kate

Tim and I actually talked about excursion options last night so we could plan our budget.

On St. Maarten (this is our actual anniversary date) we decided on the Island Drive and Explorer Cruise.

On St Thomas I think we decided on either the:

- Screamin Eagle Jet Boat OR the Legendary Kon Tiki Sight Seeing (Free Rum Punch, yeahhhh!!!)
- Then after that, we will do a quick trip up to paradise point on the sky tram thing since you can do that at your leisure.

On Castaway we were going to do the single rider water craft sea adventure... but we decided just to do a beach day/ konk cooler drinking day :-) Not doing the excursion will save us 200 bucks and it's not that long of an excursion anyway.

On board we have plans to do the Martini Tasting and the Mixology class... plus all the towel folding, character drawing, trivia, etc that they have :-)

Hi - This is our very first Disney cruise! and we are so very excited! We are a family of 5 myself, husband, and boys 12,8,4.
What is the FE that is referenced in so many messages and I'm guessing there is a FB page as well. We would love to join, please let us know what to do and who to contact. Sorry we are novices to cruising but from what I have been reading on your messages, I feel like we should book our Nov 2014 cruise now too!!
Also does anyone have any info on the cabanas at castaway cay? when do those get booked, upon check in??
Our room #8610.
Thanks so much!

Welcome! :good vibes

You will LOVE Disney Cruise Line!! This will be my 5th Disney Cruise (twice on the wonder, once on the magic and dream) - first time on the fantasy! I'm sailing with my husband, whose first cruise on DCL was with me last year on the Dream. He's hooked :-)

The FE is short for "Fish Extender". Think of it sort of like a secret santa, but most of the times you find out who brought the gift :-)

People hang fish extenders off the fish out side of their door and people in your fish extender groups drop little surprises in there for you throughout the cruise. I participated in my first FE on the Dream and it was SO much fun! You can make the gifts, buy the gifts, it can be as expensive or least expensive as you want!

By all means you don't have to participate if you don't want to. It's just something fun to do if you feel like :-) You can search those boards, pintrest or etsy for fish extenders and come up with a BUNCH of information!! :-)

Hi epfootballcutie04 : )

Thanks so much for explaining. It sounds really fun. I thought it was some sort of "mixer" of fishing excursion for the DIS board members. How do you all know who each other are? I guess by the fish hanger on the door?? We would love to join it. Could you let me know who I should send my info too.
How many little gifts do we need to get? a few for each day?

I'll have a look for the extenders today. I also saw a lot of things about magnets and door decorating. That looks cute too. We will try to find something, my kids already want to post their school magnets.

Our family is already hooked on Disney so I'm sure we will love the cruise. We are DVC members at BLT an love it too.

Thanks again and look forward to our cruise. :yay:

No Problem!

If you send a message to Kommando K... her name is Kate and she is organizing the FE (Fish Extender). Last year on the Dream there was a group of about 16 of us that participated and my husband and I made personalized christmas ornaments with our ship information on them that they could fill with sand from their favorite island if they wanted (or confetti from a show or something).

Some of our favorite gifts we received were: Screen printed tshirts, scrapbooks, door magnets, a really nice card for our anniversary, etc.

We delivered our gifts to everyone on the 2nd night. I think Kate has plans of making groups of 20. From the sounds of it, you can give to everyone even if they aren't in your group, though. Kate has a spreadsheet going with everyones room numbers, names, celebrations, number of kids in the room, etc. A couple weeks before the cruise she will send out a finalized list to everyone so you can print it and bring it with you to deliver your items.

It's a LOT of fun coming back to your room after various activities and see little surprises at your room!

It is also fun delivering your gifts you are giving away, just for the chance of making your co-cruisers smile :-)

Wow...just had a look on pinterest! This looks funner than trading vinylmations!!

How do you hang the basket on the door?? when they say only magnets?

Sorry I'm a novice.. I'm also learning to navigate this site.. How did you post my quote before your answer.

thanks again.

I just saw on pintrest the fish hook and the holder, so its not on the door.

So exciting..

Tip...don't schedule Martinis and Mixology on the same afternoon...or I guess do if your feeling adventurous. Did that last cruise..woooohoo! :)

To quote someone, for each person you want to quote, on the bottom right corner of that persons post there is a "quote" button. Just click that button and it will open up a reply window :-)

To hang the fe baskets, If you order a FE from someone, they should make a loop to hang them from. On the outside of each stateroom there is a fish or a sea horse and you hang it from that. You don't hang it from the door itself because new rules from DCL say that you can now get extra charges to your room as anything besides magnets can cause damage to the doors :good vibes

Here is a picture of our stateroom door on the dream... you can see all of our magnets we did, but then on the right you can see the fish extender hanging..

Here's another picture of the front of our fish extender. We had someone on Etsy make ours for us...

and another fun option: You can bring an item and leave it at guest services at the beginning of the cruise. You need to provide sharpie markers for them to use but they will have the characters sign the item and it will be delivered to your room before the end of the cruise! This is a picture of the photo frame matte we had them sign! We LOVE how it turned out!!

Ok So confused as to what to do, Need some advise. I guess let me start out by saying 1 have a 1 yr old she will be 19 months old at time of cruise and we are DVC members and I have 25 points to use. We will be leaving the day before the cruise to make sure we don't miss it. Never be to sure about NY weather in Nov. I am torn about staying at the Hyatt the day before the cruise (we are using DCL Transfers) or booking 1 night at Disney and using Magical Express to get to hotel and then use the DCL transfer from hotel to port. If we stay at Disney we might try and go to MK that day It just kills me to be in FLA and not go to MK:rolleyes2. I'm just a little worried about if its gonna be a little to much for my daughter. If we stay at the Hyatt we wont get there till around 430 in the afternoon but if we stay at Disney we will arrive at 930 am. Any advise as to what you guys would do.
Thanks:goodvibes

Wow your door looks great. I've already found some good things on pintrest.

Regarding the photo frame, I guess you ask them to sign when you check in? or guest services? Are there characters around the ship signing books like we see at WDW?
