Welcome aboard MickeyD(Lisa)! I need to remind you that THIS will be THE BEST cruise of the year for the Disney Magic! So stay onboard here if you want to cruise with the BEST DIS group ever!

Laura,
The best advice I can give you is to make sure you stay at one of the hotels that is in the center of the strip. I know you will want to walk around and check out theother hotels, sites, etc. If you stay farther down or off the strip, the walk is SO far that you will end up staying only at your hotel, or have to pay a cab to go anywhere. Some of the ones I have stayed at this past year were-
Imperial Palace- Good points- CHEAP, great location, low stakes gamling, friendly staff. Bad points- SLOW elevators, older rooms, lousy pool(no sun)
older decor hotel.
Treasure Island-Good points- location, large, nice rooms, good tropical style restaurant, fast elevators, good free show(Sirens of TI) good hotel staff, great views if the strip. Bad points- slightly aging hotel, lousy casino, pool kinda small and crowded, breakfast buffet not very good.
Paris Las Vegas-Good points- very modern, very nice rooms, great buffets, great location, super pool, super fast elevators. Bad points- the only thing I can think of is that the rooms, though they are very nice, are kind small. But this was definitly the nicest hotel I stayed at. And you can get good rates if you check often.

But stay in the central strip area near Flamingo Road.
Make sure to eat the crab, shrimp, mushroom dip at Margaritaville.
Walk and check out as many hotels as you can. They are a show themselves. Especially Caesars shops.
Stay out of the casinos and spend your money rather than give it to them gambling!

Did you check out www.cheapovegas.com ? It has some good info there.

Welcome MickeyD I think I  you....LOL Miller lite drinker...... :love2:

I haven't been here too much, have had sale after sale at work and can't get the time to write.....This Employee purchase price for everyone has made it INSANE!!! We had 191 customers in the store just Saturday!!! My new finance girl was leaving Saturday after being busy ALL day and said "I need to get drunk!" Then looked at me and said "oh my God it's happening already!" LOL
Good to see ya have that site back up Doogie, Kim and DDs went camping in Michigan last weekend and I took a cruise to a lake where we use to have a cottage, and then just took a long drive on Saturday night after work......nothing like a ride at sunset with the top down and Willies "favorite beach songs" jummin' over those bose speakers.........

Have heard nothing of GC yet, but then again, I haven't tried......I'll check.......

Hey, Willie...only wish it was us heading to Vegas, but alas, we are not...think you meant this info directed to Mollie, ohmom. I can only assume either you've been too busy out in that hot Texas sun or you've tried to work on that Miller Lite tolerance and it didn't work as well as you planned...that's okay! You've still got a few months to work on keeping up with Ron!! But there does appear to be a new challenger in the Turkey Cruise group...Mickey D. Oh, no it couldn't be that guy with the golden arches?

Take care ya'll!!!
Lisa and Chuck...hope you made it through Dennis with little damage...we are feeling the aftermath with rain all day so far...we need it though, crops around here are looking sad.

hey Lampy and all, speaking of music,
I was in New Orleans this weekend, and I discovered some new beach music. Playing at Margaritaville was a guy named Joe Bennett and Pirates of the Vieux Carre. He played some Jimmy Buffett covers, then played some of his own stuff. I took home one of his cd's and I am ordering his other online. If you like Jimmy Buffet/Kenny Chesney type beach music, you will love this guy. The one song that jumped out at me as a "cruiser" was his song about a rowdy bunch on a carribean holiday that have had enough of the "scheduled activities" on their vacation, so they "shanghai the cruise, and confiscate all the booze". And make the cruise director the first to walk the plank! It is called Club Med Mutiny. Too funny.
He also wrote a song on his CD about a snowbird that can't wait for summer called "I need a beach!" It reminds of the posts here by Lampy in february!

You can listen to some of his stuff and buys his CD's at his site.

OOPS! Sorry Laura! Yes, I was in the Big Easy this past weekend for a getaway, and I think the rum is still in my bloodstream! I guess I just saw the "mom" part in my mind.
Oh well, the info is for anyone that cares to read it! OhMom?

I wish I could send a copy of this thread to Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Ron White.

"If you think dressing for formal night on a Disney cruise means...(fill in the blanks) you might be a redneck.'

:rotfl: :rotfl2:

HMMMM, I think I qualify as a redneck! I had to wear matching socks on formal nite! That may have been a first.

Willie

Wait a minute. I KNOW I qualify as a redneck!

Thank you all for the welcome!
Ok, everyone, I couldn't resist being on the best cruise of the year! :Pinkbounc Welllll...that and it works out best for school and work schedules. ;)

>>>But there does appear to be a new challenger in the Turkey Cruise group...Mickey D. Oh, no it couldn't be that guy with the golden arches?>>

Ok, so not the guy with the golden arches...LOL If I were that one, I'd be in the Walt suite! :rotfl:

Also, not so sure I could be any challenge in a drinking contest, but I can run fast and get there first! :) Keep in mind Lampy that I have always boarded first or second in our 4 cruises...I will get there before you....:)

Question for everyone: does anyone stay in Orlando Saturday night and fly home Sunday> I was thinking it may be less hassle...and they won't let me pick up my dogs til Sunday night anyway. :( IF you do, where is the best place to stay...and what to do?

Lisa

Welcome the Mickey D family! :earsgirl:

Yes, I think you'll find that most everyone stays at a hotel the night before (if flying in.)

We're staying at the airport Hyatt. DCL will collect your luggage if you set it out by 8:30 a.m. It's too perfect! You can then catch the DCL bus to the port! It doesn't get any smoother than that. (I got that tip off these boards. Wished I'd known about it the first time we sailed. :) )

We stayed over Saturday night this past year at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was a real pain in the you know what to have to unpack, then pack again the next day. Then transport to the airport on Sunday was kind of a hassle what with all of the bags. You should have seen the looks we got checking in for one night and all of that luggage!

This year we are flying down on Thursday night and staying 2 nights at Hard Rock Hotel and doing the parks there on Friday.

Willie

Welcome to the group MickeyD!! Now there will be two "Lisa"s!! Great name!!

willie -- thanks for your input! i'm not a vegas first-timer, not nearly a high roller by ANY stretch. i love BJ and craps; but i stop at a $5 limit :) tehehehe i scout out for $2 tables. though this trip with just the two of us, i think we'll spend some time doing other things, shows, etc. I just read Bobby Flay has a rest. at Caesar's; he's my fav chef on Foot network, maybe have to check that out. We have stayed at IP and Harrahs' before, DH not real keen on IP but i was ok with it. interesting you mention Paris -- i have been watching it. i read their buffet was one of the best, did you have a seafood one? i actually have a mailing for two free nights at the Fitzgerald but we're thinking of moving for the last night since it's not free, but it's friday so we'll pay dearly! i actually really like being downtown, i've stayed at the Fitz and Lady Luck before as well. something about that "old vegas" feel?! you must be the one that took the guy trip earlier this year then -- thanks for responding!

MickeyD - we are flying out later on Saturday as well, we toyed with the idea of staying one night at WDW but the whole pack/repack after a week trip just wasn't as appealing to us either; so we are flying in two days earlier for one night at the BWV and one night at a friends house in Cocoa pre-cruise

molli

Well I kind of thought that it might be a pain to stay one more night...I will already be depressed about leaving the Magic..:( I guess I don't want to think about packing/unpacking again.

As for the night before: MickeyHugger, I agree, the Hyatt is the perfect place to stay and taking the bus out the next morning is so easy...although a bit of the "herding cattle" syndrome. :)

I agree! :goodvibes

Oh, my!! Ron better watch out!! Not only is Lisa a Miller Lite fan, but it appears she might be after all those shrimp you love so much....

Mollie,
Have a great trip to Las Vegas! I'm keeping Willie's notes just in case I get to make that trip! I guess he had the heat, humidity and the Hurricanes to deal with in Nawlins...hope ya drank one for us!

Take care! I'm off to get ready for a date with my husband..what a concept! :wizard: But since DS, Nic is at band camp for the week, we're enjoying ourselves and eating where kids don't like...

Well, I confess, I hate shrimp, so you're ok there! BUT...my ds and dh will make a huge dent in the shrimp at the buffet! :)

Ok, Does anyone have teens that will be sailing on this cruise that ds may be able to "converse" with prior?...not that he has any trouble meeting people (he had over 200 pics on his camera last cruise...yet oddly enough, most were females with their arm draped over him....:) hmmmm...wonder how that could be?) Anyway, I'd love for him to get acquainted with a few others prior to the cruise. :)

Lisa

Lisa -- there is actually a teens cruise-meet thread for our cruise I think it's named Teens for Thanksgiving cruise, something like that

my DD isn't on it much yet, she's addicted to another site at this time :) she'll probably chat more on dis after school starts. as for now she says it's too far away to plan, oh my she can't really be mine??? LOL

molli

Lampy? You still onboard? You DID rebook with Costco, didn't you?
Or are you just financing those new cars and staying busy? The quiet here is deafening without you.

Speaking of still here, I hope the 5 J's are still onboard. No posts here in a while.

Willie

popping in to wish everyone and early great weekend. i'll be gone until sunday evening -- hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable time

looks to be pretty wet here in OH

i've been thinking about the 5J's too - hope they are all ok?

willie -- i found a new message board :) or anyone else that goes to vegas vegas message board it's set up like these boards, but much much smaller :smooth: still i'm finding some great info on it. i kept my same username if anyone pops over there for their vegas trip planning

finally got around to putting in my countdown -- gotta watch for that magic day for booking excursions!

molli

I think there was another South Beacher on our board - am I right?

Anyway, just want to share my excitement -- I have reached another weightloss milestone -- 15 lbs. - woo hoo!

I'm halfway to my goal - although I'll probably start a new goal when I get there - LOL!
