Hi All
This from the Affects of Wilma page:
John :guilty:

On a message board for Cozumel, the board moderator has quoted from a source (the spelling is not mine(!):
"News from Coz.....Got it off a message board:

"Word from Cozumel @8:15pm"

I just got off the phone with a very close Cozumeleno friend of ours who owns sereval businesses on the island. He lives on 2 about two blocks from the waterfront. He and his family are okay as is everyone else they know. (Thank God) His house he said was ok but "a little messed up" with some minor damages. Despite his positive sounding voice after that, everything he said broke my heart. He runs the 1st dive palapa in Chanaknaab and went out to see how it faired ... "Chankanaab is destroyed" he said. He said nothing is there but jungle. The clear lagoon, it is full of sand and debris. He said the buildings in the park did not survive either. I kept asking about certain things in the park and he kept having to tell me over and over again ... "It is all gone". The only pier they have now that is functional is the one to Playa del Carmen. Puerta Maya (Carnival's pier) is also destroyed. He said all of the shops that were there are gone. Poncho's Backyard at Puerta Maya is "just gone" along with all of the other shops there. He told me that the hotel we always stay at (Casa Mexicana) was "mostly okay", but the rug store below it, along with all of the other ocean front stores were completely gutted. He said that the sea came two blocks into San Miguel. He has taken and will continue taking pictures to email to us. I will post them as soon as he is able to send them. I cannot tell you how painful it is know that all of the places I love so dearly are gone. Thoughts of moving to cozumel are what keeps me going when I have a bad day at work. I think about it all the time. We have pictures all over our house of our favorite places on the island. It really is a part of us, and this is just so hard to grasp. Worse than the loss of our favorite place to drink margaritas, or our beloved drives to the wild side of the island, is how badly the locals will be hurt from this. No piers = No cruise ships = No money. So many locals will be struggling for money to rebuild there homes, but they cant go to work until the places they worked are rebuilt. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the people of Cozumel. Carmelita!"
The moderator has been asked the source.

ok this is the place i know i can say that i'm soo sad it doesn't look hopeful for Cozumel - and i say here b/c i'm not putting myself out to be flamed on the reg cruise board. of course it goes without saying my prayers and heart aches for those who live there, etc -- but you all understand what i'm saying

i just wish DCL would announce WHATEVER!! my TA is on the Nov 5 Western so at least we'll get feedback from her before we leave -- like 3 days :rotfl:

Andrew -- i so know what you mean. I cringe when I intro myself and I get that infamous response "Molli? i have a dog named Molly!" the only other Molly/Mollie's I know are under the age of 10 or canine :rotfl2: many :wizard: and prayers to you and our other FL residents!

btw -- to any who is interested - i had our TA ask on her last cruise the CMs in the kids clubs/lab what they prefer at this time for a tip since they are a non-tipping position. Their response to her was Wal-mart gift cards

my apologies -- i forget to WELCOME from my side of Ohio our newest cruise family members -- Goofyhouk and Cody'sMom :wave2: :disrocks:

Hello everyone- We had a windy and rainy night, but everything seems to by OK here in the Tampa area of Florida. I hope everything is OK w/ the Eiss faimily (IceManPad). It looks like Wilma is almost going over the top of them.
I am really sorry to hear the reports from Cozumel. I can't imagine trying to recover from a major hurricane without the resources that we have here in the US.

Welcome aboard Newbies! You guys are in for the BEST CRUISE OF THE YEAR!
Hurricanes or no! No matter where we end up going, we "ain't skeered" of no blasted weather!

Molli, we don't allow any flaming on THIS thread, so always feel free to speak your mind. I loved the two trips I made to Cozumel, and would love to go back. But I am sure my family will be happy with Eastern, or Costa Maya. Last year we were thinking we would go to Costa Maya instead of GC, due to the hurricane damage there. And Costa Maya has some great looking beaches. We ended up being about the second cruise ship back to Grand Cayman, and It was still very torn up. Hardly any restaurants were open, and lots of damage to be seen. We did Capt Marvins snorkel excursion and had a great time. But the town was not quite ready yet for tourists. Some folks were not happy going there. I can tell you first hand that it takes months to clean up all of the debris from a storm. It has been a month since our storm, and everywhere you go there are piles and piles of debris, waiting for pickup. and still many many businesses and homes that were destroyed that have not yet even begun repairs. Not real pretty!
( I am only halfway thru cutting up the downed trees on my property.)

Lisa, you said some local boys were putting up your 2nd floor shutters? I figure Chuck could reach those without a ladder! :teeth:
(Sorry about the tall joke, Chucky, could not resist!)

Julia,John and Maria- IT WAS GREAT TO TALK TO YOU GUYS! It really got my family talking about the trip!

Willie

Hi Willie -

I know what you're saying....I was in GC in March, a full 6 months after the hurricane hit there and it was 50/50. I don't think it would be pleasant to visit a hurricane ravaged destination. I would much rather have our itinerary changed. I feel for those who are affected by the devastation, yes -- but going on vacation I would rather be enjoying some beautiful scenery, not piles of rubble. So I'm kind of now hoping that we don't visit Cozumel. I just don't think it will be ready for tourists.

All the Floridians on the board -- stay safe, batten down the hatches. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kris

Lisa and everyone down South my prayers are with you.I know my relatives in Miami have a lot of damage due to Wilma, but they are okay health wise.I hope ti is okay where you are at too.We are fine in Gator territory. We have had some rain on and off all night as well as morning and low winds, but it isn't anything compared to South FL.

Willie-It was great talking to you,Julia and John.I surely can't wait for this trip.

Tri-circle-D-We got our t-shirts today, and they look great. We can't wait to wear them. The check went out in today's mail.Glad to hear Wilma didn't cause much damage where you are at either. Thanks again for the shirts. We are very pleased!

Maria

Two great things happend to me this morning!

My UPS man came in with our DCL travel docs! :cool1: And, he also had another box with our name on it. It was a package from the Folchicks with a card, some pirate costume jewelry, and some of the sweetest tasting caramel thingies I have ever had! What are those Gina? They are great! Thank you for the gifts. The packages and phone calls have been super. And yes, Gina, the card really did "crack" us up!
It had two girls walking down the beach with "thongs" up their rear ends and guys pointing at them. But the thongs were not the bathing suit kind, but shoe thongs. One girls is saying "And you thought they wouldn't notice our thongs"
Inside it said "Just a little card to "crack" you up." TOO FUNNY!

This is shaping up to be a very good day. Now, if I could get cable back today, so that I can watch my Astros tomorrow night! Yeah, yeah, I support em, even though they are getting thumped by the Sox. (Nobody in Texas is wearing any sox this week, especially not white ones.)

Thanks again, Gina, Molli, and Julia.

Willie

We got our DOCS, We GOT OUR DOCS!

now to hide them from Julia a few hours!
i am going to try to keep her off the DIS for a few hours wish me luck!
Think she will play a game of HIDE and SEEK

Oh Yea, the Shirts just arrived
Wow what a beutiful, rainy, Hurricane, gloooomey day with just a TAD BIT OF SUNSHINE :sunny:

John pirate:

We are doing the DOC DANCE in Gainesville,FL!The t-shirts came today, and UPS just delivered the docs. They came in the new form too.It is good to see DCL is cutting down on paperwork. What else can anyone ask for besides Doc and t-shirts?CRUISE DAY TO GET HERE!

the5J's-John,you crack me up!Poor Julia<G>!

Maria

Disneyfan37 and I are doing the doc dance. DW just about beat up the UPS man!!!! Literally only 10 minutes ago!!!! This just makes us that much more excited. :cool1: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :cheer2:

Julia and john from the5js, Maria found out that a couple of her relatives in the Miami area had their houses destroyed. It is very clear here now. Nothing but blue skies. You wouldn't have known it this morning. It was so overcast. We're having about a 20-25 mph wind, but that's it. It's funny, the shirts and the docs came just as the clouds went away and the sun came out. So our day has brightened in a lot of ways!!!!!

Charlie

OK -- Even though its pouring rain and cold as well, I think I'm going to go sit on the front porch and wait for the UPS man to bring me my DOCS!!!!

It has to be any time soon!

Anyone else NOT received docs yet??

Kris

I am sooo sorry S.Florida
Here i am safe and dry and there are others in distress
All that i can offer is my(our) prayers
I have no idea of what you are going through
Cincinnati does get Tornados, so i have seen what a distructive force it can be, But it is sooo narrow and only a few miles long.
Hurricanes are the exact opposite- 1000's of sq miles of consistant destruction. Please know that all of the other 46 states are praying for you.

On a lighter note... :sunny:
I kicked Julia off the computer just in time...
She was one post away(scrolling) from seeing my post.
Check outr the TIME when she finally post
John :earboy2:

5J's - John- waaaaaaaah - no doc's here today - still hope, our UPS guy usually shows his truck (I'd say face but come to think of it I have NEVER seen that side of him - just a doorbell ring and a glimpse of his backside" around 5 ish :rotfl2:

I did get the news from DD that she has my shirt - she's visiting this week so I will get it soon!

Andrew -- i so know what you mean. I cringe when I intro myself and I get that infamous response "Molli? i have a dog named Molly!" the only other Molly/Mollie's I know are under the age of 10 or canine
mmmmmm.............DD and I haven't really talked about this aspect of her name, conversation usually is, because it's spelled different............but doesn't it look so "quaint" :earseek:

Along with everyone else, praying for safety for those in storms path and for quick restoration of power, etc. It must be so devestating ..... I know I can't really comprehend the impact.

John - will it be your turn to "make dinner" if those docs don't surface - I do hope Julia "goes on strike" if you are still holding out on her :teeth:
