Reservation modification and One Time Use (OTU) points returned?

Much to my surprise, when I tried to modify a reservation today the website wanted to pull from my home resort points before using the OTU points I had purchased. Thankfully, I was able to park exactly all my remaining BWV points in a dummy reservation then do the modification and all went well.

However, my next (and thankfully final) modification is to a reservation that costs 10 points less. Does anyone here have experience with this and know if the website will give me my BWV points back or the OTU points? I assume I can call and get my BWV points back...I would just prefer not to have to do so. TIA.

It’s going to go by the order the contracts are listed and checked off.

The exception is banked, borrowed or holding. Those will be taken from all checked contracts first and then pull in order.

If you want the OTU points kept in a reservation, make sure it’s the first in line when checking contracts.

When I went to make the modification today it showed the three contracts used (BWV, 12 OTU points, & another 12) and said I could reorder them...but there were little padlocks in the upper left corner of each box and I couldn't figure out how to change the order.

If they are locked, then it requires you to call MS to have them do it.

Typically, the locks are for home resort bookings, but sometimes bookings made at 7 months or less lock too.

As a follow up, today I looked at doing the last modification myself, saw that OTU points would be returned first (and that the ability to change the contract order was padlocked) and called DVC. I got a nice CSR who was happy to help and my 10 BWV points were quickly returned (and I overheard the CSR saying, "Oh...OK...I guess I have to reorder the contracts" as they did it).

It took all of 5 minutes tops (most of which was spent answering automated questions) since I called at 9:00:00 AM...but it's odd that DVC forces 99% of the people modifying a reservation with OTU points to waste a CSRs time.

It only requires a call if contracts are locked. I have modified before with no issue.

But, as mentioned, not sure why the contracts were locked to begin with as it seems inconsistent across memberships.
