Hi everyone,
Since this is our first cruise, I have no idea what to bring in general and I'm even more clueless for dress! So, what is this formal night stuff? I'm not sure ds (11) even owns anything more formal than shorts and his school uniform shirtCan a kid get by with just a collared shirt and khakis? Or maybe not collared but clean? Or sort of clean
9yo dd on the other hand would wear a ballgown to take out the trash if she could so formal will be no problem for her!
So can you please let me know what adults and kids wear to formal night? What about Palo? Is it formal as well?
Also, 7 nights seems like a lot of clothes to pack - should I plan on doing laundry - it might lighten the luggage but will officially take the word "vacation" down a notch if I have to do laundry!
What about non-formal nights - I'm thinking my standard mom wardrobe of capri cargo pants and tee shirts and flip flops may be a little underdressed?
Thanks so much!!!
beth
WONDERFUL! That makes it go SO much faster.
Rescuetink, machine sewing a seam is just like driving a car - you have to steer, and not speed.
We ordered a suit off eBay for our six year old son. It was cheap, around $30, and will get the job done just fine for formal and semi formal purposes. I have a few dresses from various occasions, but my husband has NOTHING and would never wear anything we bought again, so I really don't want to spend too much on him.
I'm curious about Palo also... we made reservations, but I'm afraid there will be a mutiny if my husband has to dress up yet another night.

My brother is 8 and will be 9 when we cruise, and he usually wears a tux on formal night. But he LOVES to dress up, so your DS should be fine in just a casual little suit. And he will be adorable!![]()
I am 16 and i just wear a cocktail dress. We find some really cute and formal looking stuff at TJMaxx CHEAP!! No need to go all out and buy some really expensive dress...![]()
Non-formal, just a cute sundress or like a pair of nice shorts with a nice top. Nothing too over the top... You will find that Disney isnt really all that strict with the dress code in the restraunts. Last cruise we saw a family in their bathing suits and cover ups!
Oh and my mom always says, "Pack what you think you will need to take, and then put back half of it!"For us, we spend 99% of the time in our bathing suits. I am planning on taking some soffee shorts and tank tops to wear over my bathing suit most of the time. I mean if push comes to shove, you can always do laundry. It just really saves on luggage and if you fly, the weight of the luggage.
Hope I helped! If you need anything else, do not hesitate to ask! We are here for you!![]()
Well said!
Many people seem to obsess over having "the right shoes for the dress" and end up bringing way too many. Trust me - one neutral pair of shoes for evening that goes with everything will be MORE than sufficient. For daytime, go for comfort - and easy on/off.
Oh yes I forgot about this! I am probably taking 4, maybe 5 pairs of shoes:
2 pairs of flip-flops
2 pairs of heels for dinner
and quite possible a pair of tennis shoes...
Back to what I said earlier, it helps tremendously with the number and weight of luggage. Im hoping that my sister and I will share a suitcase... This is highly unlikely, but ya never know!![]()

I bring crocs sandals. Not necessarily the best fit for each outfit. But I have wedges in brown and black. They are comfortable for lots of walking, but are dressy enough for all but formal night. So those, a pair of beach flip flops and one pair of fancy heels that I use for formal and semi formal night. The crocs weigh next to nothing.
Hello everyone! We are going to be joining you all on this double dip cruise. We are very excited this will be our very first Disney cruise as well as our first family cruise. We would like to join the FEs, if it is not too late. Please let me know. We are in cabins 1066 and 1068. It is me (jennybell), DH, DD
(9), DS (6), DS (4). We also have another family traveling with us in cabin 1070 (I think?). They are not going to join us with the FEs.
I am a little nervous about staying on the first floor of the ship. It was the only cabins we could get that were all together. We just recently booked our trip. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts. Y'all are so knowledgeable!

Welcome aboard!
I think you JUST made the cut off for FE's.
We are two 60+ traveling with two families of "adopted" grandkids, almost all the young people are bilingual English/Spanish. The kids are boy-9, girl 6?7? and girls 5, 5. They're not doing FE's but i'm betting the kids will meet in club, if not before. There was some talk of bring all the kids to the Promenade lounge 'meet' at 3 pm on sailaway day.
Guess what everyone...
Starting tomorrow you get to say "I'm going on a Disney Cruise next month!"
Can't wait!
So glad to see new people! You and your family are going to have a ball!
You kids are the perfect age and they are going to have so much fun!

If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask! We will all be more than happy to answer andy questions!![]()
