November 12, 2011 - Magical Double Dip!

Is her room the same category as your two?

Just discovered that November 10 - 20th is pirate week in Grand Cayman. That may mean a couple things - 1 - Georgetown may be more crowded than normal, and 2- there may be some special activities going on.

Can NOT wait!

Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot going on the day we port there:confused3 The really fun stuff looks to be happening on the weekend, but hopefully we will still get to experience something!

http://www.piratesweekfestival.com/ There's lots of info on their site!:goodvibes

Either way I can't wait to get outta town for a while! Only 36 days til we get to Florida!!!:banana:

Woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo::yay::dance3: :cheer2: :cool1:

Maybe this is why all the excursions I've been trying to book are sold out, :lmao:

Not sure what I'm gonna do there now. My little boy is REALLY into geography, so we have to at least get off the boat to say we were there.

There are a few interesting things you can do in Grand Cayman.

There's a tiny historical museum in the old town hall that includes an excavation of the ancient Jail.

Further down toward the right as you face the town, there's a little shopping area. The toy store has a glass floor so you can see down into the old 'walk in' well.

There's a municipal 'bus' service. The bus depot is a few blocks in from the port and to the left. They're more like mini buses, but if you don't mind being surrounded by native Caymanians, they're a heck of a lot less expensive than taxis. You can get a bus out to "hell" and back which will show you most of the West end of the Island.

The bus will also drop you at 7 mile beach, if you'd like a beach day. The drivers all know where the places are for public access - and what hotels will rent you a beach chair/umbrella.

It is also possible to take a bus to the east end, but you want to go early in the morning, because it's a relatively long slow trip.

There's a wonderful botanical garden, which I hope to visit. It's about 15 miles out of Georgetown, and is also the home to the snctuary for the indiginous blue Iguana.

If water sports are your interest, you may be able to get something through Native Way WaterSports. We've used them successfully in the past and were very pleased.

About 5 mins after I posted this I got a note back from one of the places I emailed and got something lined up. Now I just need to get the resort/port/airport transfer reserved and I should be done spending buckets of money for about 30 days.

I'm sure it probably too late, my Mom, her Fiancé booked a year ago for the trip and were not going to participate in the FE, yesterday the decided to take my niece and nephew along on the cruise with them, so of course the kids want to do the FE.
If it's not too late to add them,
They are in room 2014
Diane ,
Marv,
Kayla age 10
Ryan age 16
this is the first cruise for all of them! :cool1::cool1:
I do understand if we missed the cutoff date though..
Thanks
Jackie

We were finally assigned our cabin number- 2106.

What is everyone doing for excursions? I am still debating. I was wanted to swim with Dolphins in Grand Cayman but Disney has no more room. Can I book this directly?

I just booked all mine yesterday, directly. I used http://grandcaymancruiseexcursions.com/ for the caymans. The company also does Cozumel, http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.com/

I read several reviews for the company(Island Marketting Ltd.), and they seem to do a good job from what I could find.

Got your room number updated, thanks!:goodvibes We are doing the dolphin swim in GC, I booked it with DCL though since it is a tender port. I did a bit of research before to see if it would be a better option for us to book it directly but honestly it was such a hassle with having to go to a hotel to be picked up and all this other nonsense. Something about them working with the cruise lines and not wanting to interfere with the cruise-line making money. It definitely can be done, don't get me wrong, I just wasn't interested in the amount of leg work involved.:confused3

We have used Island Marketing several times and always been very happy with them. Last year in GC we used them to book our stingray excursion, which was AWESOME!!!! You made a great choice!:thumbsup2

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

37 chilly degrees here this morning, but at least it's supposed to be sunny.

Today's agenda is breakfast with my lawyer, dentist, and architectural committee meeting (for neighborhood association). At LEAST breakfast will be fun - she's a Disney nut like me :)

Happy Day, all!

Please tell your niece and nephew that we have a kids only thread and we would love to meet them! :thumbsup2 We all are those ages! :woohoo:

Only 37 more days! Oh, and I forgot to say.... WE ARE FLYING!!! My grandmother decided that she is gonna go all out and pay for us to fly. So we are leaving Thursday. My aunt has a friend that owns a Country Inn and Suites, so she is gonna see if she can get us a good rate for the one in Cape Canaveral. If she can, we are renting a big 'ole van and driving from SFB to the hotel and then dropping it off on Friday. Then on Saturday we can take the mini shuttle from the hotel to the port!

so much to do in so little time!

Thank you everyone for allowing the latecomers into the FE group!! They are soo excited:cool1:
37 degrees and frost here this morning on the vineyards...
