November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

:cool1: It all sounds like fun to me! Thanks for researching this further...I have always tried to pay extra attention to threads that talk about peoples' DIS MEET experiences. I may be a little more interested in the Scoops option just for the sake of the diversion to the kids. Is it all inside? Is it big enough?
The time sounds right.....we will be boarding as early as possible....staying right down the street at Ron Jon's. We could take a poll here on that question. :goodvibes
BTW, I have been away from my email for quite some time, sorry. But the good news is the mailman delivered! :cool1: :flower:

Hi folks - I have been asking around about places for a mini meet and have the following suggestions for a meeting.

Time - about 3:00 - BEFORE the life boat drill. Some past cruisers held meetings during the sail away but it was noisy, the kids were excited and wanted to watch Capt'n Mickey. Too early and not enough folk are on board. Too late and it interfers with early seating.

Place - Several were recommended.
The promanade
Scoopes
Deck 10

I have only cruised once and can't say I recall where I was at 3:00 - The promanade is recommended because it is big and open. Negatives are - folk may still be boarding.

Scoopes is recommended because it has food for kids, some acitivities if they get board and chairs for adults and far enough away from the main pool.

Deck 10 is recommended because it does not have acitivities going on at 3:00 but some negatives are that it is too croweded or noisy.

So, opinions are welcome.....We have time to plan.

Happy Countdown to HP.

I agree with disnurse meeting at scoops sounds like a great idea. I know that will keep my brothers occupied while waiting for others. To answer your question disnurse scoops is outside on deck 9 plus there are pools there for the kids to do while we meet each other. The only thing about meeting at scoops we will probably have to pick a side of the stand to meet at because i have a feeling it will be tough to meet up because scoops will be busy.

just booked our air fare via southwest-well worth the wait. west to east coast 99.00 each way!!!

the promanade my be a good location. lets have the meet about 45- 30min before the drill. My kids will be in the pool but we will be able to drag them out if we tell them that we are having the drill. Deck 10, on the side facing way from the pier my be another spot. Most people will be running around so this place my work. Try to get to the port as soon as you can. This way you will have a extra day to enjoy the boat. We are planning to get there when the doors open.I want be one of the first hundred to board. This way we will be well relax and ready to go. :boat:

I ditto....and am obviously up for anything...if Scoops is a great place to meet but extremely crowded, then another spot may be best. ;) Heck, I'll even meet near a public bathroom if that's what it takes! ....Hmmmm....wonder if any groups have ever done that just to be different and out of the crowd's way?! :rotfl:

One more step completed - one week closer -- Yippeee

Now I must get down to studying excursions as well as travel insurance.... :wave2:

Where are you?

WHERE TO MEET - Favourite Auntie we need your help, as you seem to be our most seasoned cruiser. What are your suggestions?

I have only been on a cruise once and everywhere on the ship may be busy. The timeframe before the life boat drill seems to be a good time....but we do have different suggestions on where to meet.

And I guess, is the meet set up for the kids or adults? Do we need to select a place where the kids can "go play?". This might make a difference on where we select to meet up. Any place is good for me. We do have some time to think a bit.

It looks like we have kids ages 1, 2, 3, 4(2 of them), 5, 6, (4 of them), 8 (6 of them) 9, 10, 11 (2 of them).

So, those of you with kids, take a look at the posts and see which of the suggestions are most "kid-friendly". Thanks...Irene

the meet do not have to be a long one. just a few min. so we can put name and faces together.

On our last Disney cruise the meet was by the pool right before sailaway. Needless to say, we didn't make it up there. Haley was sleeping and it was sooooo crowded I didn't want to bother. That first day is so busy - everyone is so excited and busy. Since the first day is a sea day, why couldn't everyone get together that morning? Any of the lounges would be open and most likely not too busy since everyone will be at the pool. Just a little 30 minute get together before lunch or after breakfast (I plan my day around food can you tell?).
That is my suggestion for now!

It would almost make sence to meet at someones room because we dont know how crowded it is going to be at different places. At least that way we would know that it wouldnt be crowded there :confused3

:cool1: Yes! That's the ticket! Now you have gotten me thinking outside of the box! :cool1: I insist on a DIS meet outside our sinking Titanic Deck 2 stateroom just across from the laundry room! :rotfl: WHOOO HOOO! It'll be great! ;)

Just Kidding.....no, seriously....I would definitely consider this option but better if someone has a stateroom or two booked that had a decent pad. The am of Sunday could be a possibility but I have to admit that I would be subconsciously guesssing all evening long if the people next to us were, "fellow DIS'ers" and I just didn't know it yet! :teeth:

Update of kid arrangements.... I 100% expect our DD (8) to be placed with the younger crowd of the Lab, as everything I have read on these Boards is that this will be allowed because her dear brother will be there. She is a kind, gentle girl with a big heart and will do great! So keep that in mind when the kids all get together....I noticed there is at least one other 6 yo girl.....our DD's best friends are 6-7 yo's.

Another major announcement I need to make...after a lot of research and pain staking justifying of finances, we are DEFINITELY booking the Golden Eagle Catamaran on St. Maarten, in addition to St. John's Trunk Bay Sea and Snorkel Adventure (sorry....at the moment I cannot remember the real name)......the St. Thomas day. Oh, almost forgot to add we are booking the Golden Eagle for the 1pm booking. :flower:

No Captain Nautica on St. Thomas like I had hoped....it's too difficult to fight Disney about their age requirements eventhough the owner himself told me they take 4-5 yo's all the time....just can't be booked through DCL for liability sake's. pirate:

That's enough blab for now.......need to go to bed.....lots of premies await me in the morning tomorrow.... :confused3

anytime everyone wants to get together is fine with us. we actualy met up with several on our last cruise prior to boarding (we all had name tags on to identify ourselves by our screen names).

now that i finaly have the airfare nailed down i just need to book the night of our arrival (decided to come in the day before our our ssr stay at wdw so we will have a full 5 days at wdw followed by 1 at the port) and get the rental car lined up. how is everyone who'se flying out at the end of the cruise getting back to the port? i hate the cost of disney trans (although it's so easy and stress free) but i can't see paying for an extra week of car rental either-has anyone looked into any of the independant shuttle or towncar services-what are their prices like?

going to start nailing down what excursions we will do-i have our calendar marked for when we can do kids club, palo and all on-line. about the time we get everything schedualed it will be time to get ready for the kids to go back to school (man this summer has gone by quickly!).

well-keep posting!

UGH! A year ago when we first started talking about this cruise with my parents, DB, DSIL & kids were also invited. Well, they continue to drag their feet. Now, they say they are still trying to swing the trip, so our planning is slowed as a result. We were getting ready to book flights/car rentals. Now there might be 10 of us, which changes the picture drastically! Not to mention excursion planning. I hadn't even gotten that far yet. They have a DS5 & DD3, so we will have 6,5,4,3 with us IF they decide to go. (Where is the "pulling my hair out" icon when you need it??? Thanks for letting me vent!

DISNURSE - I have a DD that is 6. She's be almost 7 & is dissappointed that she won't be old enough to go in with the 8-12 year olds. She doesn't care about being with her brother at all. Maybe our girls can hook up. Sounds like they might make a good pair. Then your DD would have someone to see when she visits her grandparents too!

I'm up for meeting anywhere, but have absolutely NO ideas since this is our first DCL cruise. Seems like a room might be a tad small. I added up over 50 of us from the list. Are we still going to do some sort of exchange with the kids? It would be really neat to get postcards, state flag stickers, keychains, etc. from the other kids on board. My kids' teachers would appreciate the geograpphy lesson too!

Maybe we can make nametags with the green mickey heads from Home Depot. That would be a really easy way to quickly ID each other while waiting to embark.

Barkley - I would really liek to know about people's experience with the limo/shuttle services too. We will be coming in on Thurs from Phoenix & renting a car to drive to the port/Cocoa Beach area. The Fri we will head to Kennedy to do the space thing. Sat am, we will have one person in our group drop us at the port, return the rental car & ride the shuttle back to the port. Then we have to arrange transportation for at least 6 (maybe 10) of us to get back to the airport on 9/19 for a alte afternoon flight. Once we have that all settled, then I'll move on to excursions!!!

the rooms are to small for a meet. We plan to let the kids swim in the am so they will take a nap in the pm. My son [4] will not take a nap so we must wear him down early in the day. Many of nights he has fallen asleep at the table wait for his food so mornings is swim time for him. Character breakfasts are also on the 7 day cruise. So be sure you allow this in your planning. We will not know what day the breakfast will happen until we board.

4formickey-sounds like our sons are cut from the same cloth :goodvibes we have a favorite photo from each of our prior disney cruises of him sound asleep at the dinner table!

choc_marg-the only company i've so far looked at is the one the diz boards reccommends, their prices are comparable to what i've heard, but they are def. a much better deal the more people you have traveling together. do you have any plans as yet on how to kill the time between disembarking and your afternoon flight? we may go ahead and do a day rate at the airport hilton again-we did this the last time (as well as in vancouver following our alaskan cruise) and it was well worth it to be able to relax while the kids watched t.v. vs. keeping them occupied in the airport . i don't envy the situation you are in-it's got to be a pain waiting on others before you make your travel arrangements (esp. the air travel for the better priced fares)-do you know where you will be staying near the port yet? we will be at the best western friday night (they had a pretty good internet rate when we booked).

Barkley - which service does the board recommend? I'll check into them also.

We have no plans for the time before the flight home. Since we haven't technically booked our flight, I'm not sure how much time we have :) I had no idea there was a "day rate" at the Hilton! That's really neat & we might consider that if our flight home is late afternoon.

Not sure about a hotel near the port yet either. Will we need 2 rooms or 3?? Won't know that until DB & DSIL decide :crazy2: :crazy2: what they are doing. Mom is checking with her TA & she had recommended the Raddison, but I read that someone got a room at the Holiday Inn through Priceline for $55 a night. BW is definitely an option.

Once I get people to make a commitment, we'll be off, but until then, I'm in super slo-mo! Frustrating since up until yesterday, we were planning as if there were just the 6 of us. I had no idea that they were still considering it. Of course, when they realize how much fares have gone up since we booked almost a year ago, they may change their minds (again).
