November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

I do know shingles occur from the Chicken Pox virus having laid dormant in your nerve cells (thus why it's so painful!)......then reactivate themselves....sometimes from stress.
The real name for Chicken Pox is Varicella Zoster. The real name for Herpes is Herpes Zoster. Get the relation?
You should feel better is a few days....like much better! Smart to get on those meds, though!

Well I finished putting labels on the NY postcards. Picked out clothes to wear on cruise. Cleaned up golf clubs. Filled out docs. So I guess we are all set. Now just have to speed up time so the cruise gets here faster :)

Thanks. I already have a days worth in me. Hopefully another day of relatively light activity & I'll be good as new sooner rather than later!

I have never had chicken pox or none of the childhood diseases. Please stay away.

Neither have I! You must be stressed though - that's what usually brings them on from what I know! I hear it is rather painful for several days and then you get crusty scabs? The blisters with fluid are the contagious part - and you should be over that part by the cruise.
I'm a natural remedy girl - here's some things that will help along with your medication you are already taking!

Beneficial Dietary Supplements
L-Lysine is important for healing and for fighting the virus that causes shingles.

Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids aids in fighting the shingles virus.

Vitamin B Complex is needed for nerve health and to counteract deficiencies.

Zinc enhances immunity and protects against infection.

Calcium and Magnesium for nerve function and healing.

Garlic is excellent for building the immune system.

SAMe aids in reducing pain and inflammation.

Alfalfa and Dandelion promote healing.

Astragalus Root and Echinacea boost immune function.

Cayenne relieves pain and aids healing.

FEEL BETTER - and REEEEEEEEEE-LAXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Breathe in and out........in and out. :grouphug:

That's the thing. I didn't think I was that stressed out. Guess I was too worried about how many margaritas I can consume in a weeks time :rotfl2:

Yes, I am only contagious when the blisters are open. I don't have any of those right now & the doc says I may not. Thanks for the list of remedies! I'll see what I can find.

Last post before we leave-it's been great talking with all of you, we so look forward to meeting everyone.

Safe travels to everyone...

A VISIT FROM “THE MICK”

Twas the night before cruising, and all through the house,
Not a kiddle was sleeping, thinking of that mouse!
The luggage tags were strung on the suitcases with care,
In hopes that the shuttle soon would be there.

The dis’rs were nestled, all snug in their beds,
As visions of margaritas danced in their heads.
Hedgie in a kerchief, Barkley in a cap, had just
Settled down for an overdue nap.
When out of the room there arose such a clatter,
We all sprang from our beds to see what was the
Matter.

The moon on the crest of the hurricane eroded beach
Made Castaway Cay seem almost within reach.
When what to our wondering eyes did we see?
Why that Mouse who sails on the Magic Disney!

More rapid than postings his coursers they came,
And he whistled and shouted, and called them by name:
“NOW AWOL, NOW CHOCMARG, NOW STB, NOW DISNURSE!
ON HAYLEY’SMOM, ON 4FORMICKEY, ON CHIP&DALE AND FAIRYDISMOM! TO THE TOP OF THE PORT, TO THE TOP OF THE WALL, NOW CRUISE AWAY, CRUISE AWAY, CRUISE AWAY ALL!”

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled the buffet tables; then turned with a jerk.
Laying his gloved finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod up to the deck he arose.

He sprang to the ship, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all cruised to the ship’s Magic whistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he cruised out of sight:

“HAPPY CRUISING TO ALL-BE AT THE “RAD” FRIDAY NIGHT!!!”

Safe Travels All, Looking forward to meeting everyone-

The “Barkley” Family

THIS IS FANTABULOUS!!!! BARKLEY - YOU CAN'T READ THIS NOW, BUT WE WILL SEE YOU SOON.....THIS ALSO NEEDS TO BE PRINTED FOR THE ALBUM.

OK guys! Take it from me. Stop stressing about this vacation! I wasn't going to tell you all because I didn't wnat you to freak out on me. Apparently, I have been stressed out too much lately becuase I found out I have shingles...... I went to the doc yesterday and got an antibiotic. It is pretty painful, but I am so glad I went yesterday becuase it is much worse today. Normally, I would have left it until Monday (first saw the rash yesterday), but I was worried with the cruise comign up, so I went in & got the ball rolling. Guess I'll be takign it easy a bit for a few days, while these sores heal....

Ouch! - so sorry about that - ys, take it easy - we can't wait to have a stressfree vacation with you...

Jumping in - and I am not sure if they have a vaccine - but if you are not opposed to same, it would be worthwhile. DH had chicken pox when he was over 30 and it was quite, quite painful.......

Finally caught up on posts...You all were a chatting group today.

Disnurse - you are sooo bad to your kids, they are going to pee their pants....I do hope you take a video, esp, when yo show them the ship....

Today was another work day around the house and garden, no time to pack yet. Best friend just got power back on yesterday and we still have 68,000 in our County alone, without power.....yikes.....

DH spent the day helping neighbors propping up trees and cutting down one that fell across our fence...So, when you see the bruises, I wasn't me, it was the tree. We are wearing his and her bandages on our hands....

Halloween decorations are all packed away and I put a few Thanksgiving ones up so it would look like fall - since it is 85 - it has turned warm again....

The Orchid house it righted, but many of the plants need TLC - They will need to wait until we return.

A very productive day....tomorrow is another....

leanne2255,,,, Besides, something tells me mom and dad will be doing some hefty partying themselves!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

That's our plan and we're sticking to it!

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to Choc_marg to get over the shingles REAL soon...

Ok, made my Wal-Mart run today, almost everything is packed, except for undies and socks. I'll do that later in the week.

Tomorrow I'll work on the postcards, and that should be it for the rest of the week. I can now start to relax. :cool1:

We have a karaoke singer in the group.... That will be lots of fun.

OK - where are my fellow Noles fans???? Ben even drove down and went to the game and they lost to North Carolina???? What the heck is up with that? He comes home tomorrow - I hope his mood is better than when I just talked to him. :guilty:

I am too excited to sleep! Less than one week now!

Regarding Karaoke... Haley has been practicing using a spoon for a microphone. Her top 2 songs are "It's A Small World" and "Tomorrow" (you know from Annie). She even does the big finish at the end. As for me participating....... no way no how. But I do love to watch! If I sang, you people would jump ship! :earboy2:

......you guys all make me laugh! Thank you! :goodvibes Remember I mentioned I tap and take hip-hop classes? I perform at the same recital as DD every June. I once considered doing our last year's tap dance on stage at the talent show.....but ONLY IF IT MEANT A FULL PAID CRUISE or some great incentive! Sorry, it would just be too much (and take too many glasses of wine) to get me up there to dance in some slinky outfit to Madonna's "Music". :earseek:
If it was for a 7 night cruise of your choice, I'd have the CD and tap shoes packed already! I think DCL is missing out on this one.....they need to be more generous with their "prizes". :teeth:

Okay, now all the snow has melted, as for the past 4 hours it has been :umbrella: :umbrella: :umbrella: POURING down rain! We hardly ever see rain like this here.....that is what Western Oregon is notorious for, the Willamette Valley. We, here, are the high desert and get very little rain...lots of snow and sunshine.
:moped: GET ME OUTTA' HERE! :moped: .......DH returned from the back country and said it was an absolute BLIZZARD :cold: up there! He was at 7,200 feet today and there were already feet of snow in our Cascades! We'll be coming home after Thanksgiving to an open Mt. Bachelor ski resort and our kids chompin' at the bit to get on thier skis! What a dicotomy of weather! :rolleyes1

Choc-Marg, you will feel better soon, I know it. The people who suffer most are those who don't realize there is something going on and ignore it for days if not weeks. Rest, take those meds, and if it's too painful, don't hesitate to call tomorrow AM and say you aren't sleeping well (pain). They will prescribe you Vicodin or Percocet. One or two of those should really help you feel better and sleep! DON"T HESITATE! You just need to speak up!....and, no, don't feel like a "druggie" asking for such a thing! :earboy2:

I will have to bug Barkley for a copy of that wonderful poem! I can't quite trust that if I press "print", that our entire thread won't be spitting out paper on the floor well into the night!
Just need that poem, you know? Gotta' have that poem! :goodvibes

awoltoday....Flagstaff, where you grew up, is OFTEN times compared with Bend, OR as far as climit. :sunny: Lots of sun , lots of Ponderosa Pine Trees, and lots of snow some winters. If we ever went to go live in Arizona, that's where we would live. :goodvibes

4Formickey.....I saw you chatting on the thread that was speaking of the St. Thomas immigration guards RAIDING a DCL passenger's stateroom just last week! How crazy is that? I am thinking that you and I should hide while we can! They are out to get us! I feel it coming....... :guilty:

No, seriously, if that happened to us, I would have a lot of explaining to do to our kids! That's kinda' scary! :guilty: I have never heard of anyone talking about that EVER on these boards. It's not like 9/11 was just yesterday!? I wonder what promted that!? :confused3

Again, just checking with you all out of ignorance.....isn't there some specific docs that they want fillled out for St. Maarten and ST. Thomas included in the "cruise docs"? Just checking....and partly 'cause our TA situation was such a boof! :badpc: I can't trust that she did anything the right way or had us in her best interest at all! :confused3

Choc_marg, you are in my prayers for a quick recovery...get your rest and take your meds and I'm sure you will be just fine!

Ok, I did my Walmart runs today (yes, I said runs...as in plural)! I stupidly left the house without my list, so I walked passed the friendly greeter 3 times! We were getting to know George real well by the 3rd entry! Luckily it wasn't like I'd gotten all the way home before I remembered the things I'd forgotten (underwater disposable camera the first time, new slippers for the boys the second time)! What a dingy! I only have 2 minor things left to shop for...candy and lanyards. I know you were speaking of lanyards when I first joined this group...I have a question...do the kids need one and did you make name tags to use with them? I'm still not sure if I am picturing what these are, but I figure I'll be able to find them at an office supply store.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Get well wishes for Choc_marg :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
